...out of earshot would be be preferable! Sorry but not a fan. Can't get past his nasally little voice and appalling lyrics (IMO) To be fair I do have one of their many double live albums, bought from a local charity shop, and always thought it would be nice to play Mr Pink! Happy tripleting! and then some! BB
I only really like it because it's nigh on the same as "I Keep Forgetting" by Michael McDonald.
It's nice to know that more experienced and older players like yourself would disparage such a younger player in such a fashion... you should probably think a bit more before posting comments as above. Whatever you do, don't ever become a bass teacher, it would be a terrible vocation for someone with the degree of patience you've just displayed.
I do teach quite a few young guys and few experieced guys as well and have been confronted with quite an array of attitudes towards learning and towards what they know, a few displayed similar traits to skillbass, but beyond talking about his ability he has displayed a bad attitude in general. I do apologise for saying it, but having confronted similar players to skillbass, the attitude does tend to grate my paitence, eventually it passes and we move on and then thats when things start getting fun. If skillbass is willing to take the advice already given without the wiseguy attitude then I'm more than willing to contribute to his growth as a musician. Again Ill apologise for the statement, but skillbass, please try to approach the advice with a more receptive and respectful attitude, even if your ability isn't the best, having respect for the advice your given will always make you someone other musicians will want to work with because they know your ready to take what they say on board.
d00d, you are coming across as a wise ass, you must admit. I really am thinking you are BassFerret's inner child
I'm really starting to think he needs a stern hand across the back of his head.
Or more correctly, you'll be like Jeff Berlin without the talent. Something that man has bucket loads of, even if he's rather strongly opinionated and aggressive with those opinions.
Exactly Buzz, I think Brian Fox is probably the better example.

One piece of advice I'll give to you that I wish I could've been told a long time ago would be not to be so full of yourself and end up putting yourself in the mind set that your an "Amazing" bassist, because another bassist will come from out of nowhere and will proceed to wipe the floor with you and your preconceived knowledge of bass playing. I'm sure as hell that I'm not alone on that one. You need to admit failure and learn from it, you have to open your mind in regards to what music you want to play, and always be sure to learn from a bassist who you know full well is superior to you, learn to turn that petty jealousy into something worthwhile. It's good to be modest, but not when your going around saying your a great bassist and your parents concur, if your persist with that attitude you may end up like Jeff Berlin, and thats a curse no bassist would wish on anyone.
Didnt now players used more than 1 bass!
Didn't know teenage bassists were so naive.
Does that also go for plucking hand ?. Seems to me that most people use just two fingers on the plucking hand, but that doesn't get derided. Peronally I used all five digits on the plucking hand and the 4 fingers on the fretting hand ( may hand is not big enough for the thumb to come round teh top, even if I wanted it to).
Not strictly, 2 is usually enough for everything and anything (For 70% of us at least), using more on the plucking hand is seen more for the speed advantage or general variety and isn't really debated because differences/advantages are obvious and are optional. The left hand technique needs to be correct and well practiced before both hands finally fall into place.
He is the most inspiring and interesting bassist on the planet IMO. I've said it before but I'll say it again, how many of us have seen guys (or ourselves) mangin to rip Wooten's technical slappity poppity double thumping at least to a certian degree? I know I've seen tonnes. I have never seen anyone even attempt a Manring thing, not with the detuning too, that is just above and beyond what normal people can achieve, even with a lot of work. The closest I've ever got is Girl With... on my myspace page, and its not even close (standard tuning and no harmonics for a start ) in fact its super lame compared to MM, and it took me years to get close to right! It was very much inspired by listening to Drastic Measures, but is clearly not in the same league. Plus his fretless tone is the absolute definition of perfection for what he does, its so ethereal. I agree about the Jaco tip, he was taught by Jaco, and in interview said they mainly spent time looking at how music works, solos work, compositions work etc, not strictly bass related all, its brilliant to watch how far this genius can take our instrument.
+ 1 all the way. Although this guy Zander is quite obviously heavily influenced by Manring.

You are seriously limiting your technique by not utilizing the advantage of using all 4 fingers when playing, you may find it a hindrance but it is almost etiquette to use all four fingers on the fretting hand.

Ryan Martinie's Custom Black & Chrome Warwick NT Thumb Bass 5 String, the one he used in the Happy? video and many other recorded gigs.
It's been a while since I listened to Good Times, but it does sound just like a Stingray. Odd that MM would get mixed up. And apparently, after some research, all the old stuff, i.e. 'Dance, Dance, Dance', was a Fender Jazz! Puzzling
I only just recently noticed it recently when it came on the radio in my friends car. The bass itself sounded alot duller than when compared to Good Times, and the only bass that can sound persistently dull on anything it's recorded on is a Precision. Well if anything I guess the best way to describe the MM tone is a meaty jazz bass, it must've been what appealed to Bernard enough for him to switch to them.
I think maybe the passage of time has lead to Marcus getting in a muddle! I really can't believe it was a P-bass on Good Times - from the sound if it, it HAS to be his Stringray with the old unchanged strings on it. It just doesn't sound like a precision to me. Listening to Chic stuff, I would say that the early singles (Dance, Dance, Dance and Everybody Dance) from the first album were played with a P-Bass, with all the stuff on the later albums C'est Chic (Le Freak, etc.) and Risque (Good Times, etc.) being played on a Stingray.
It's definitely a Stingray on Good Times and most definitely a Precision on Rappers Delight, that might be the source of the confusion.

Easy = Spirits in the Material World - The Police Intermediate = Virtual Insanity - Jamiroquai Hard = Do I Do - Stevie Wonder Fun = Burn Rubber on Me - The Gap Band Insane = Anything by Sikth/Protest the Hero

That's the main thing I loved about that bass Barrie, hooked up through my Mac it really did give out that classic tone.

The Gap Band. Fantastic synth driven basslines, they dominate the songs. Anyone know who their bassist was?
Have you found any dead spots on the neck ?
Nope, I have my action very low, so much that it chokes out on the higher notes (15th fret on wards) and each note is nice and clear and consistent.
Maybe I'll just get a Squier classic vibe at only £250!
I just bought one today, and it beats my USA 75 Reissue hands down, warm and punchy without the harshness.

Generally like them all besides the SZ sig and the Cort. Though chrome hardware really doesn't do Warwick's any justice.
Hi everyone. Good to find a UK bass-mental forum. Anyone know what model this Spector is? I am assuming it is an NS-4 neck-thru. Also, any idea on RRP, or what they fetch these days? Thanks for any advice you can offer Cheers, H.
I'm pretty sure it's the Professional model man. Just wait for Cetera to confirm it though.

I was the one who installed the strap locks, but I definitely recall there being a screw in there so something has happened since I owned it.
Jerry is playing a Low End 6 string Jazz. I think he's an endorser and I found him on their web site while looking for something else. He gets such an amazing sound from it that I'm wondering if there are any in the UK that I can try! He seems to be using a GK 800RB and an Ampeg 4x10.
Someone's selling a pink one on here man.
