1.
Lovely necks. 500-550 tops, IMHO...
IMO the best thing about the bass as a whole is the neck, everything else about mine was very underwhelming. I'd say £400-£500 is reasonable but nothing more.
2. Edit: I just checked my calendar to be certain and I forgot that I have actually got a recording session on the 12th :/
3.
First off, stunning bass!! However, the OP did mention finance and in defence of PMT, it's not as easy as issuing a refund when technically the finance company have paid for the bass and own the item until it is paid off, even if the item is faulty. Just for balance, all my dealings with PMT have been equally awful. They took money from me for something they said they could get but turns out they couldn't (which it turned out they'd known from the start) and then made it very difficult to give me back my money (trying to make me take an exchange for the stuff they had in stock instead!). It's a shady way of dealing in my opinion.
It wouldn't be so bad if they actually made a conscious effort to be helpful as opposed to stringing you along for another few months whilst they still have your money. I haven't ever been a fan of shopping in my nearest PMT branch (Bristol) as a majority of the staff are just useless and will flog you anything, also the bass selection is always the same which is very underwhelming. Shopping online turned out to be worse, I wouldn't even want to buy a set of strings from them. Even now I have this £50 credit note from them to spend, I'm somewhat anxious to see how that will turn out.
4. After a good 5 months of back and forth between myself, PMT, Dolphin Music, Fender, and Lakland, I've finally taken delivery of my new JO 5. This all started back in april when I bought a brand new american Fender jazz from PMT online, it turned out to be a dud and was also a bit broken, so after requesting a refund and returning the bass (which took about 2 weeks in itself!) I was then offered the same bass now fixed again to which I declined as I had stated I would like a refund. I was then contacted by PMT to see if there were any basses I would be interested in which I said there weren't (Fenders, Ibbys, Squiers, and Sandbergs make up about 70% of what PMT stock) to which they replied that they could get in other basses that they don't stock. So I get contacted again a day later saying that they can order me in a JO5 and that it would be on the same finance as the Fender so I wouldn't need to spend any extra money, I would just have to wait until the beginning of august to receive it. To cut the rest of the story short, it turns out the bass didn't leave Chicago until August 8th despite being told it was already in the UK. After a lot of phone calls from me and the lack of correspondence from PMT, I finally managed to get them to pull their finger out and they actually did something right. Despite finally receiving a rather apologetic email with a £50 credit note from PMT, this has probably been my worst purchasing experience from an online store. I never want to buy from PMT online again unless it is something I truly needed/wanted and it was going for a good price. The good news is though that the JO is amazing straight out of the box, this is my third JO and my sixth Lakland now, I can happily say they make far superior jazz basses than Fender IME and would highly recommend them to anyone

Evening all, This was bass was bought from a local player who was pleasant enough to let me try it out through my rig as usually I don't have that luxury being in Somerset. I had recently bought an American Fender jazz which turned out to be a dud, both in construction and tone, so I was quite surprised to find that this bass sounded better even with old strings and a naff set up, I bought it on the spot. After sorting out the set up and putting some fresh strings on it sounded even better and it was a fraction of the price of the US jazz. However, with a brand new Lakland 55-60 incoming and my other jazz still being my go-to bass, I would just like to either get some money back in my account or trade for something different. I have replaced the original BBOT bridge with a much more solid Gotoh 201 which has really helped increase the sustain and helped with the adjustability of the bass. The overall condition is pretty good, there are a couple of dents which are evident in the pictures but they aren't anything substantial. I've currently shimmed the neck to get the action low enough for my taste but it can still go lower if required. Pics: Specs: The official specs can be found here. Trade Bait: Precisions mainly but I'm open to anything really, maybe even a fretless. I can also add money for the right deal too. Price: SOLD. Sound clip: I recently used this bass for a demo recording which can be found here: https://soundcloud.c...dge/tripohopo-1 Any questions please just ask Thanks, Josh.
8. In the right hands a Stingray can sound fantastic, both warm and defined, but for me a lot of SR players tend to over do it with the treble and mids (amp and pre in some cases) and then it becomes a scooped and harsh tone. Some pick players I know use 'rays and unfortunately have no idea what EQ is and as such have a really nasty tone that is instantly recognisable as a 'ray. Again, with the right know-how and technique they can sound great for anything.
9. After owning a couple (4 & 5) and playing a few others I quickly realised they are not the bass for me. There was only ever one out of those few that I played that I did enjoy but I was unable to actually own it as it was practically impossible to pry it away from my ex-girlfriend who never touched it, although it got a lot of playing time when I was there. For me they are an iconic bass with a unique tone, they were potentially the first coolest/most modern looking bass for the time and still look great today. However, they always sound better played by someone else in my experience and that's how I enjoy them. A Lakland 44/55-02 is the perfect bass if I ever want the Stingray tone as well having more tonal options to choose from.
10. If it will be in Taunton and depending on the day then I'd be happy to come along
11. That's Luke Wards LX, all I'll say is you absolutely lucky git!
12.
Was that a red streamer LX 5, built in 2000? I had one with a warped neck, bought and sold at £400. From what you have said it sounds like it could be, other than your compliments about it; I found it an awful instrument £500 for a LX 5 in good condition is a great deal, pictures and year?
It is indeed Kev, you must've seen for yourself how much of a kick in the b***s that bass was for me. Remember, I had been assured the bass had recently been set up at The Gallery...I doubt anyone could've played it comfortably in the state it was when I recieved it.
13. That's an absolute bargain!! I paid about £700 for the same bass but unfortunately due to a dishonest seller, I found out it had a warped neck which rendered it practically unplayable. I had it fixed but because of the extent of the warp in the neck, it would never return to it's original working condition. It was such a disappointment as it sounded incredible but I was unable to set it up to my preference so I had to sell it on at a big loss. I've had two 4 string versions and again both absolutely fantastic basses, but ultimately I would've loved the 5 string version to have been in much better condition than it was. That is the danger of buying blind sometimes, as Pinball says above, definitely try it out first.
14.
I never even felt safe in Anaheim which is where Disneyland is .
Such an ironic place to put a land of wonder and happiness Stay out of Compton though! First time I went to California we got diverted off of the freeway through west Compton...that was a gnarly 20 minute wait in traffic.
15. Having been a fair few times over the last couple of years I can safely say L.A. is very overrated and quite a nasty place when you really look at it. It's cool to do the sunset strip once to have a look in all of the guitar shops but thats about it. There's one major downtown strip with the Hard Rock Cafe and where they film the Letterman show and that's about it. Be careful where you do wander off though, it really is a dangerous place. One place I highly recommend if you enjoy astronomy is the Griffith Observatory which is on the hills around L.A. It's absolutely stunning at night. San Diego is nicer but a bit scarce of things to do other than it's main strip of shops and restaurants. San Diego Zoo is pretty awesome though if you fancy it. If you can I'd say go to San Francisco, now that place is somewhere very worth going
16. Thanks for the replies guys. I bought it from PMT online last tuesday, it was the last one in stock from the store in Norwich. My nearest store is Bristol which isn't a problem as I'm in Bristol for Uni most days. To be honest I'm disappointed in the jazz, it looks fantastic and the neck is amazing, whereas the sound leaves a lot to be desired. My Squier CV with Wizard 64's sounds far better to my ears. Hopefully I can get a refund as I bought it on the Pay 4 Less scheme which has a 2 week grace period. I knew I should've bought a Lakland JO from GuitarGuitar instead.
17. Hey guys, Just a quick question, I've recently recieved a brand new 2013 USA Fender Standard jazz and upon changing the strings 3 of the 4 through-body stringing ferrules dropped off. Surely this can't be right on a brand new bass? Thanks guys, Josh.
One of the nicest playing Warwicks I've ever owned. Only sold to Josh as I was out of work and if funds permitted I'd have it back NOW without question.
I'm in no major rush to move them on Paul so you never know
£300 for a TRB1005 is an absolute bargain. Great basses.
Indeed, I bought it from Andy for £350 which in itself was a great price.

SOLD.

Evening all, I've actually be able to abstain from moving any basses on for quite some time but now I really feel like a change and would be happy to trade these both for something different. Both are great basses and have seen some good action but are both still working perfectly fine. Warwick Streamer LX: SOLD I got this from Bigthumb almost a year ago now and has been my main bass alongside my Squier. It is a 1997 model and has an all wenge neck and brass JAN, it also has recessed strap locks. For a bass that is now 17 years old, it has got a fair knocks and dings and some buckle rash, none of which affect the playability or adjustably of the bass. Yamaha TRB 1005: SOLD I bought this one from Phsycoandy about 5 months ago now. I had always been curious about the TRB's as they have a worthy reputation for being solid and reliable instruments which sound great in any musical setting. I've used it for some recent recordings and it sits perfectly in any mix and the playability of the bass is brilliant as well. As mentioned above, it has seen some action and as such there are a minor dings but again nothing serious and do not affect the playability or adjustability. (I hope Andy won't mind me using his pics temporarily until I get it back from the studio) Trade bait: Warwick Thumb BO/NT 4/5 string Warwick Streamer S1 4/5 string Fender Deluxe Jazz/Precision 4/5 string Fender USA Jazz 4/5 string Lakland JO 4/5 string Lakland 44/55-02 Spector Euro 4/5 string Fender Marcus Miller Price: Ideally I would like to trade both basses for one, I can also add money on top for the right deal as well. But if there isn't any interest in a trade then: Warwick - SOLD Yamaha - SOLD Collection would be preferred but I can post as well. I can provide some audio clips and more pics if required Thanks guys, Josh.
23. The film is ridiculous, the concert side of it was alright but it is essentially a rehash of Cunning Stunts with the snake pit added and some fancy live effects like the electric chair and tesla coils for Ride The Lightning. The set list is pretty underwhelming when compared to other shows they played on the same tour. I would much rather watch CS because at least at that time they still sounded good live and Lars was still capable of staying in time and playing the songs 80% correctly. As for the Jason vs. Rob argument, Rob is the superior bassist but Jason commanded the audience a lot better and was great at backing vocals. Watching the videos of him playing with Metallica at their 30th anniversary really reaffirmed the difference Jason made to the band. Robs been with them for about 11 years now and it still doesn't feel like he's really in the band. I do find it odd that he seemingly must play a different bass on every song in the set.
