1. There's a pretty cool sounding octave divider called a Vivider that's a close copy of the old Mu OD; but to me it sounds a bit thinner, harsher and less lush and warm than the Mu. I've only heard the comparison on your Tube tho. If you're interested in the TruTron too a good comparison is with the Neutrino by Keeley. I've only heard a comparison on You Tube, but it does sound v convincing. However I suspect the TruTron has a lot more extreme sounds and options than the Keeley; that may be fair tho. All just my opinion of course!
  2.
Psh, in the guitar section. I want your opinions on these with bass!
No worries, our bass player has pulled trigger on a brace of these too! I will suggest he feedsback on them on BC too, in bass section.
The LP could mayb3e be up for grabs for a trade etc:) As is the SG which is on this forum.
Hmmmm....pls tell me more about that LPJ and what interests you for trade

Wow - I am only at 6 guitars and 4 basses and 4 or 5 amps; but feel I need to adopt the 1 in 1 out policy soon. An LP Jnr does get my juices flowing though!
  5.
Of the people here that are playing covers of this - are any of you playing it without keys (or horns)?
Yes, no horns in our band....just two keyboards/one player and guitar, bass and drums. Keys and crunch/chorus guitar cover the horn parts.

I really want a P90 guitar one day and admire your 1 in 1 out policy....I need that too
  7. Just pulled the trigger on these bad boys http://www.mu-fx.com/store/pedals https://www.youtube....flDyRXFA3phqo4u https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lGy-CVBdYY&index=3&list=PLnVyLxZRnPTIhm4VtI6gPjvrD8fLtpBeG Will take a while to arrive from US via customs; but looking forward to some funky good times......
  8. Aja had many session players on it too, as did some of earlier LPs....it's well worth checking out the Classic Albums documentary on Aja on BBC4 or Sky Arts 1. Such classy arrangers and musicians. I think Chuck Rainey was on Royal Scam too. The Dan were reknowned for using some of the very best sessionistas on East and West coast
  9. Best recorded bass sound I've ever got was by blending three channels on desk, one was a DI feed from back of amp (a silver face Femder Bassman 135), the second channel was a mic placed right in one of the speakers of the cab and the third was a mic placed further back from the cab to get the thrown bass sound. It was awesome!!
  10. Well, the original MM amps from 70s/80s are killer Fender amps under name of Leo's next company after Fender. They do the best clean sound in the business and can get pretty gnarly too if you like it that way. I still use an old MM combo on geetar and it's hard to beat.
  11. No worries; so you have the original 110v to 12v AC cable with transformer supplied with the Tru Tron, then another transformer to go from 220v down to 110v?
  12.
Yes that's right BassNut, the new Mu Fx pedals come with their own power supply. I emailed Mike Beigel about it previously when I was enquiring about getting one and he said "The Tru-Tron3x uses its own LITTLE wall-wart supply that delivers 12volts AC, which the unit itself turns into (analog regulated) accurate +/- 9volt DC with TRUE GROUND--same as Mu-Tron III but much more accurately and quietly regulated."
That power supply sounds good but from US 110v, so would have to get step down transformer from UK 220v too; which puts me off. Have you found some other solution, apart from getting a pedal power supply like Voodoo Labs?
  13. Ha! 5751 preamp valves in my Blues Junior have done the trick; along with swapping the original Jensen C12N speaker out for an Eminence Cannabis Rex and swapping the power valves for Gold Lions. You could even go down to least gainy 12AY7s, if the 5751s are still too dirty for you. PS. I think V1 was the key valve to change in my Blues Jnr; but you could probably change all of them to 5751 and no harm would be done. NB> I am not a tech tho, so best to check with someone who really knows that amp. Luckily my Burman came with original Mazda 12AX7s and they are so smooth and delicious that I am happy to keep them where they are.
  14. Looks like powering the TruTron or Octave Divider from Mu-Fx could be a drag, unless you have a fancy pedal power unit like Voodoo Labs and I am not even sure how easy it is to power more than one Mu-Fx pedal off a pedal power supply. Bo0tsy, how are you powering yours?
  15.
Stop it!!! I'm feeling bad enough for not grabbing that GR2...
I've got a GR1 too and despite the blend mix I think I heard that the GR2 is not as good as the GR1, possibly 3 Leaf Spencer was already trying to go more in Mutron direction with GR2 and it seems like maybe nobody can really capture the Mutron sound except Mike Beigel himself and he's started making them again as http://www.mu-fx.com/store
  16.
...... keen to take a look one day at the MuFX Tru Tron, looks very interesting.
Me too. Our bass player has just ordered one and the new Mu-Fx Octave Divider too. Can't wait to hear it!
  17.
If you can make it over to Notts http://www.xperienceguitars.co.uk are amazing. I've used some top luthiers before and they are genuinely up there with the best.
I've been using Xperience for about 5 years now and they have always done good work for me. Also it turns out I was at school with Jenna down South in the mid-late 70s! PS. They've only worked on guitars for me though; I've never tried them on bass.
  18. We're doing it in our set already. Our bass player has got some great and very workable sounds for it from a Mutron with an Aguilar Octamizer. Not sure if that's what was used on original, but it works. I reckon a lot of the sound is in the fingers too tho.
  19.
It's an early '66 (late '65 neck and pots, Jan 66 pickups), all original including LPB finish. Yours looks like a pre-CBS in pretty awesome shape. Is it a '63 or '64? Btw I read you're into disco and funk so you're probably aware of that local story: in 1975 a couple of American session musicians who’ve known each other for year finish a gig at local chicken-in-a-basket venue The Heart Of The Midlands after backing up an unknown soul singer, and wind up chatting in the Bentinck Hotel (next to the train station in Nottingham}, after one of them’s had his wallet nicked. On the spot, they decide to form their own band. Their names? Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. The band? Chic. True story.
Wow I didn't know that story about Nile and Bernard and they are two of my biggest musical heroes. Thanks for that. I bought my Stingray in early 80s cos it was exactly same as the one Bernard plays. Now I play guitar too and chose an MIJ 54 Strat because Nile uses a 50s Strat with maple neck too. Also I immediately loved the feel and sound of both instruments. In fact my current band is pretty much modeled on Chic and my band call me The White Nile!! Back to the original thread. My P is a 63 and all original in every respect apart from the finish which is a very nice and very old refin, probably done in 70s or maybe 80s. I bet yours sounds great and so nice to have original paint.
  20.
Didn't MusicMan make their combo's with a SS pre and valve power section?
That's true. They sound absolutely great too. nothing touches them for super clean and warm Fender-like valve tone. Most of the tone in a valve amp comes from the power stage. SS is more efficient and less prone to distortion, which means you get all the juicy tone of valves and all the cleanness of SS.....Leo was a smart guy! Valve pre and SS power just doesn't work in my book....
  21.
Mine is also old, blue and in Nottingham!
How spooky! And you've kept ashtrays on too! What year is yours?
  22. Get a nice old valve amp. None of the numerous older amps I've had have ever had fans. Never needed a fan, always sounded great. I've even used my Fender Blues Jnr guitar amp for bass and it works v well indeed as a quiet bass amp....and no fan.
  23. Pleased to say we went down a storm and NYE was a great party for all with plenty of non-stop boogie action! Happy New Year one and all.
  24.
We're considering this...what effect you using on the bass...if any ?
bass is using MuTron and Octave....sounds spot on. I guess any envolope filter combined with a smooth octaver would sound pretty close
