    Hi

    I have a very nice 12" guitar speaker for sale.

    I do not know who made it, when or where; but I can tell you it is a high spec speaker and sounds great. It has a cast aluminium frame and a very heavy magnet.

    I suspect it is an alnico magnet, because of the sweet tonal characteristics, warm detailed breakup and the apparent dimensions of the magnet - it looks like it may be taller than most ceramic magnets.

    It can handle 50w comfortably and it starts to break up nicely around 35w, I reckon.

    It is an 8ohm speaker.

    The cone is paper with no ribs and the dust cap is paper too. The speaker is in excellent condition and is a great value buy for anyone after classic guitar tones of the 70s.

    £20 cash on collection from Nottingham preferred; but shipping and electronic bank transfer could be arranged at your cost.

    Finally got the work done on the early Korean Peerless Epi Dot....swapped pups for covered Seymour Duncan 59s and JB and swapped the wiring, pots, switch, tuners, bridge, etc for USA spec in nickel to match the pup covers. Got the pups tapped and the plastic nut swapped for bone too, plus a fret-hone and set up.
    It now plays and sounds SO much better than stock hardware that comes on those Epi Dots.
    So far I really like these pups; they can roll-off to be mellow or be dimed to drive an amp with just the right amount of heat. I particularly like that (when tapped) the pups sound just as tonefull and strong in single coil mode, like they were always meant to be single coil. Whereas some tapped humbuckers just sound to me like weak versions of the untapped tone. There seems to be much less difference in volume between tapped and untapped too, which makes them much easier to live with.

    Haven't gigged with it at full volume yet though. That will be the ultimate test.

    Still wish I had another with P90s though!....GAS again!!

    Two very nice compressors are the Keeley 4-knob and the HBE CPR

    Both very similar and based on the classic Ross design.
    Both do exactly what all tone-hounds want without getting in the way.
    I marginally prefer the tone and control options of the Keeley, plus it has smaller footprint; but the signal comes through the HBE slightly cleaner.
    There is a smaller HBE CPR without the Attack control too; but I like that control too much to be without it.

    Always found it easy to get bass tone in minutes with trusty Bassman 135 head and assorted cabs.
    Now playing guitar and while I basically stick with same approach of a simple Fender-type valve amp, I am finding getting good guitar tone a fair bit harder to do. This may be because of need for different gain settings and need to place sound in different parts of band mix....not sure; but maybe we should cut guitarists some slack re getting right level, tone, gain, etc

    New guitar?

    I saw Albert Lee live the other day at a village hall near Mansfield, Notts. He was on fire and playing his MusicMan through a Fender Tone Master amp....wow, what a sound and what a great player and singer too.

    I bought my Tele-ish guitar from DubJunkie too - he has great taste! Mine is a G&L Asat Special and thankfully I still own it and am unlikely ever to part with it. USA G&L guitars and basses are among the very best IMO.

    +1 to this; but I don't bother even asking the band to fill it in. I just insist they tell me their non-available dates in anyway they like as soon as they know them and then I fill in the spreadsheet. All dates not marked as not available are then fair game for band activities. And everyone has to pay share of studios etc whether they show or not; they soon get used to the system and everything starts to run smooth.
    I also use Dropbox to deposit other band resources, such as chord charts, photos, mp3s, set lists, etc
