bought a bigger pedal from Stu. very fair and straight to deal with. Delivery was perfect and quick. Pedal was just as described in A1 condition and working perfectly. He even threw in a sweetener of clever slim patch leads. Excellent chap! Deal with confidence with that happy bunny!

Got the Mobius and it is capable of some incredible sounds, including many great ones preset from the factory that would take years to come up with oneself. It seems to have 100 presets, 50 from factory and 50 that you can create yourself. It took at least an hour to get up to speed with the very basics of what it can do. Sound quality seems excellent and it has some clever tricks, like the option to feed it, like this....instrument - mobius - amp....or like this.....instrument - amp - mobius...., if you plug it into the fx loop of amp and into the front. Of course you can place other pedals anywhere you like in this signal and change the order with the press of a footswitch on the mobius. very clever and useful. Size wise it's equivalent to 3 standard MXR boxes stuck together (with no leads in between) and the inputs are all top loading; so not a massive sacrifice of space given that it is equivalent to at least 12 different modulation pedals and endless combnations of the same. It runs of standard 9v DC Boss type jack, but needs isolated minimum of 300Ma current to run at its best. I haven't dared try it on less current or in a daisy chain; but Strymon do not recommend this action. I've only had an hour of playing on top of an hour of learning how the thing works; but so far it's a big thumbs up.
Lol, proper GAS! When it arrives, do tell
Ha, yes indeed....when in doubt, do it with overkill is my motto! yes, will report back on the Mobius, when I've got to know it a bit.

Ok, I wanted small and cheap multi-modulator. So this being BC what happens? Yes, GAS! I have splurged on the Strymon Mobius being sold by OneHappyBunny of these parts. Oh well. I am sure it will be a lot of fun with crazy good tone and possibilities.
Sound quality wise, depends if you're a purist and what you expect from a pedal and how they react with your current tone. If you have a guitar and amp tone that you love then I'd put money on these pedals compromising that, making it thin, less pronounced and considerably weaker. But if you just need a job done, a tool for the trick then I guess either would do that for you no problem. I'm the first to admit I'm a tone snob, I notice things others don't seem to mind. Wish that wasn't the case
Hmm....I'm a tone snob too and what you say is what I am afraid of.....Even if this only meant to be a back up, I do like my Phaser and Chorus to be very lush and full sounding with no volume drops or spikes, unless I want them.
Nux Modcore would be ideal
NuX Modcore does look like it would do a lot of useful things. How is it for volume drop or spike against clean signal? I've read that quality of nobs and jack inputs is not always good with these; any problems with those?

Hi I am looking for a multi-effect modulator in a small package for small board and as a reserve in case of any problems on my main gigging pedals. Two contenders are: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191607401053?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT http://www.donnerdeal.com/donnerr-alchemy-modulation-effect-guitar-pedal-16-model-true-bypass.html Both the Rowin Wave Revolver and the Donner Alchemy are ridiculously cheap for so many goodies and it appears to come down to a trade off between size vs number of effects. I wonder how good the sound and build quality is though, does anyone know?
No idea..... but this is something similar with more effects built in for ~£30
Wow, that Donner Alchemy pedal is ridiculously cheap for so many goodies. I wonder how good the quality is? Does anyone know? BTW I am looking to use this for guitar more than bass? So will re-post question in Effects forums for guitarists too.

Change of The Century is still one of my top five perfect albums, even 25 years after I first heard it. And like the OP, Scott LaFaro is one of my fave bass players too......although not with Ornette, his work with Bill Evans on the Waltz for Debbie LP is probably my absolute fave perfect album. Anyway RIP Ornette Coleman.

Hmmmm....for a moment there I thought the OP might be the bass player in my band......I set up and manage the band and get the gigs and we have some really good gigs that pay well and get everybody dancing. I am also playing guitar in the band (not bass for once) and have only been playing six strings for a few years. I reckon I am genuinely good on rhythm guitar and have recently started trying a few solos. Most of the band say my solos are fine and just need a bit of improvement on timing; but I know they aren't really good enough yet to be aired n public. If my experience is anything to go by, I reckon that if your guitarist has gone to all the effort required to put a decent band together that gets gigs and people dancing, he will already know that he has work to do to get to the level to which he aspires. So he will probably appreciate the honesty and an offer to give him the space in a jam to work on his soloing. Ultimately he is likely to want the band to be as good as it can be, as a direct reward for the huge effort he has already put in.
.....without a blend I'm not a huge fan of the sound....gets lost in a mix
Run it after a decent compressor and it is a thing of great beauty and stays very present in the mix; and of course only use it with a passive bass. Don't know how close or good the clones are though......

Saw them at Koko a few years back with Rocco on bass and all the right horn players. Great gig!

My band played a bar in Nottingham in October last year. Two people who we have on video dancing to the first song of the night, later assaulted two of us, tried to steal some equipment, damaged my car and one exposed himself and worse. This one is expected to be going down for considerable time when he is sentenced on Fri 5/6. the other hasn't yet been identified. We were only trying to entertain people and did a good job in difficult circumstances. When we arrived the bar manager said sorry we've double booked, we're showing the boxing tonight. Some of my band had travelled considerable distance. They said can we play after the boxing is over. We will never play there again or any other sports bar, that is showing a big event before us. I think this show massive disrespect from the venue and they did not do enough to secure the band's safe departure.

OMFG.

I have a hard enough time knowing what I'm doing with standard tuning.....so none of the intonation issues should be a problem for me anytime soon....Excellent!
-
Its a wrap around with the lightning stripe bridge (see pic); so at least the string pivot points on the bridge are set in about the right place. You can do quite a lot of adjustments on this bridge too and the previous owner, who was a classical and Zappa fan and also v particular about intonation said he found he could maintain good intonation quite easily. But I know what you mean and I am a bit concerned about the reliability of its intonation too. However it's such a rocking guitar that I am pretty sure I won't be worrying about it too much. It seems like an odd choice of guitar for someone (previous owner) who was into playing classical; but I guess the twist of Zappa makes it more understandable.

Not huge fan of the J-bass sound but...
Bassnut62 replied to ChunkyMunky's topic in General Discussion
Bootsy used a Jazz when he first joined James Brown's band....all those funky-ass groove monster tunes from JB's heyday in the late 60s / early 70s were probably played on a Jazz Bass. -
Thanks chaps! Got an hour and a half on it last night....think it might be time to Give Up The Funk and start rockin' out with some good ole boys!

Scored this pretty little USA 2010 Gibson LPJ today. At last I have a guitar with a P90 in it. Plays beautifully, perfectly balanced, nice neck, sounds great and I never knew you could so many different tones out of such a simple guitar...... Has a tummy cut on back too, which is v comfy!
