+1 for unlined I had an unlined stingray and it was my main gigging bass for 2 yrs -lovely tone
ahh, really miss my 'Ray 5 fretless Best fretless I've had for sure. I can vouch for the great work of Andy Vickers by the way, with the ebony board on this. My BB405 also has a replacement ebony board from Andy. Really nice work; you'd think the bass originally came with the board! Buy this with confidence chaps!
I would certainly advise any newbie to fretless to not be put off by an unlined board.
This gets a massive +1 from me I was originally put off by the lack of lines, but the side dots really are enough; I'd never buy another lined fretless again. Have had three unlined fretless basses and never had any problems. Gets you using your ears and playing expressively Oh, and PM'd re: a trade
They are great down by the first fret, most comfortable 5er I've ever played. Only 42mm wide at the nut
Wow, that is narrow! My BB1200 was 42mm at the nut. Looks like it's sold now, will get some pics up of the BB2000 in next few days

I had an NS upright for 10 years and used to use that like it was a cello. Really got to grips with bowing technique, vibrato etc and it proved invaluable once I actually got a real cello. A big +1 for lessons I think. I'm self taught but with an instrument like this, I think lessons are essential, not to mention PRACTICE PRACTICE, PRACTICE AND MORE PRACTICE! I'm still getting around to it mind you (the lessons bit)

Hello again all Here we have for sale my very much treasured Yamaha BB1200. Looking good for a 34 year old bass, I'm sure you'll agree! You often see these for sale altered/upgraded, but this is all original and is a very clean example. I'm only letting this beauty go because I have just bought a BB2000, a bass I've been after for quite a while and need to replenish the much depleted coffers as a result! This is a classic Yamaha thru neck model from their golden age of bass making; played by the likes of Peter Hook, Paul McCartney and even the bloke from Chas and Dave! Often described as the "P bass on steroids," it's a tone monster that oozes quality; wonderfully built, with five piece laminated thru neck, solid as a rock. I've had it for almost four years; it's been well gigged up and down the land but has been well looked after. Cosmetically, it's in great shape, but for a few small lacquer dings here and there and a small surface crack in the lacquer around the jack socket - I've tried to highlight all of these in the pics. Comes with a Ritter hard case, as seen in the pics. Also includes a set of Schaller strap locks, which I forgot to mention earlier. Based in Liverpool. Postage within UK no problem, will even deliver personally within reason. Pictures can be seen here: http://s751.photobuc.../library/BB1200 Cheers Bobby

Lemoncello on here is an accomplished cellist. He's a top chap and has given me advice and tips since I took up the cello in the last couple of years. Always wanted one after dabbling with violin for years. Always found the violin too tiny for my big arms and hands, but the cello is perfect. A wonderful instrument, well worth the effort
Just bought a BB2000 Japan 1985 in original flight case.... Loving it to bits......
I was coveting that 2000 like you wouldn't believe mate! Congrats my friend It's funny how things work out though. I've been after a yellow natural BB2000 for a few years now (ask Noel, he knows!) then two appeared on ebay last week! after missing out on the cherryburst one that basslondon bought on here, I thought enough is enough and pulled the ebay trigger!! Costing me a fortune as it's coming from America, but you all know what gas is like; when you want it, you've gotta have it!! Basically fed up of waiting for one to come along; I need to get on with my life lol. Anyway, looks to be in great original condition and is in its original Yamaha case. Arriving on Tuesday, I'll let you know how I get on... P.S. My 1979 BB1200 will be up for sale on here this coming week if anyone is interested (gotta pay for this 2000 somehow!!)

Update... I've popped a washer behind the truss rod nut (as per the sticky thread "truss rod maxed out") and it seems to have done the trick. The neck is definitely visibly more straight. I'll see how it is over the next couple of days...
-
The buzz happens above the 12th actually, around the 13th-15th-ish The long and short of it is that the truss is pretty maxed out from what I can see and there is a bow in the neck. The strings I've got on aren't exactly heavy gauge (the pink packet Ernie Ball ones, more like standard) the bow is quite hard to photograph, not massively obvious. But I just know from experience that if I put the 45-105's on (the orange pack) - it will bow more. it's an issue I've ignored for a couple of years but recently I was toying (just toying!) with the idea of selling it on. but I'd need to get to the bottom of this issue before I ever did - I'm a good guy like that lol If it can't be resolved it'll obviously send the value plummeting and I'll keep it and use 40-95's for ever lol...

Hello all My beloved 1979 BB1200 has a truss rod problem. Basically, anything heavier than light to medium gauge strings will cause the neck to bow a bit more than is comfortable, causing buzzing issues down around the 12th fret. I have carefully tightened the truss rod in small increments a couple of times over the last few years but it seems to have no effect. The truss rod seems to be really tight now too, with hardly any room for manoeuvre. i'm obviously scared of buggering it completely, not sure what to do. maybe it is buggered already, I dunno. I'd hate to think that I'm condemned to using lighter strings with it forever This is also a thru neck bass, so I'm guessing this might make a fix awkward?? Any help/suggestions would be most welcome...

Lakland 55-02 std Fretless with Birdseye Maple neck - SOLD
Bobby K replied to MoJoKe's topic in Basses For Sale
Did you use this with the Kate Bush band? I'd love to give it a spin on Breathing and Babooshka Always put off by maple boards on fretless but this looks amazing. i reckon it would sound amazing with flats on too (I'm not the biggest fan of flats but with the right bass they can be perfect!) I'm not in the market to buy unfortunately but good luck with the sale, it's a lovely thing -
