1. Yes Pete, lots of fun being had. Cheers for a great bass mate ;-)
2. I think it's the original one. The top layer of it (the tort bit) is even starting to Peel back a little around the edges, especially near the fingerboard. The pau ferro board is absolutely immaculate! Loving the warmth from it. That and flatwounds seem to tame the trademark MM "Boing" which is desirable on a fretless I think. Gets the Pino Paul Young vibe no probs Slight bit of yellowing here and there on the finish, I dunno if this is common with the Mary Kays ...?
3. I recently became a member in the Musicman owner's club Here's my fretless Stingray 5 from 1993, in the trans white (Mary kay) finish. Can't stop playing the damn thing
4. Did a trade with Dan, a pleasure to deal with and would happily do so again
5. Hello fellow appreciators of black boxes that glow in the dark My turn to post. The rig I use on bigger gigs. Features a 2x10 and 1x18 and Series 6 AH200 (actually, it's the amp section from my 1215 combo. Got fed up of my faulty old GP11 AH250 farting, so stuck the AH200 in a 2U rack case) For smaller gigs I just pop it back in the combo
6. Eminence 10's now gone! Celestion 15 still for sale...
7. Like others have said, pity they didn't all play the same piece of music... I've just put a Dimarzio model P in my P bass and it sounds great!
8. Eminence 10's no longer available!! (traded) Next up, a Celestion BN15-400X... Extremely light 15 inch driver! 400 watts. I bough this thinking that it would be perfect for my tiny Trace 1215 combo, but it turned out to be a mismatch. It saved me some weight but I've since learned (from some BC'ers in the know) that this driver is designed to work with a much larger cabinet space, for example, in a Trace 1518 cab or similar. So if you're thinking of buying this, make sure your cab is suitable. I always seem to learn the hard way! Anyway, I've done two smallish sized gigs with it in the combo, at sensible levels, so it's still pretty much in "as new" condition, although the original box is a little tatty. Will be carefully packed though. Some retailers are charging over 200 quid for these! £90 posted. (No trades thanks) Any questions, let me know
9.
Bill Bruford/Jeff Berlin JOE FRAZIER MB1. ...So thats how he got his name on a Mark bass combo?
Jeff is a bit of a bass god Martin, if his work with Bruford is anything to go by. I'm guessing Markbass are delighted to have such a name on their amp...

11. You been looking at that one on ebay? Me too... I think it's passive only. I've got a 1100s which does both; very similar in appearance but has a small switch to select the active, and has three extra knobs for bass mid and treble in active mode (mine is also bolt on of course) Mine actually sounds better in passive mode. The thru neck on this 1000s will be a further advantage I think. A winner I reckon
12. Oh for the dough!! As good as it's gonna get for a birth year bass for me. Alas it will end up in somebody else's hands I'm afraid. All the best with it mate
13. I was born in Jan 1973, so almost my year of birth bass. Lovely bit of wood! Assuming this was always a natural? (ie not stripped of its paint) Love it with the black pickguard particularly, just wish I had the dough! Bump for a beauty!
14. I had the fretted version of this bass. It's more akin to a Jazz neck really...
15. to this day, one of my favourite Rush songs, a thing of beauty His keyboard playing isn't too shoddy either!
16.
sound may be king but my back loves neodymium. I see watford valves still have the 4 ohm version of that orange label as well, tempting me...
Yes, it does help at the end of the night when you're lugging the gear out Cheers for the input Lawrence
17. Typical innit... I almost bought the orange label one, as they were going cheap in Watford Valves It turned out to be one of those "if it ain't broke don't fix it" things; I've put the original driver back in and it's fine. If truth be known, I was looking to save some weight by putting the neo in. It did make a very noticeable weight reduction too. Lightweight isn't everything though eh. Sound is king!
18. Hey Ad, I nearly had mine de-fretted before doing that trade with you I bet it sounds fantastic fretless!! Bump for an underrated fantastic bass
19.
be careful about just sticking any old speaker into a cab and expecting it to work OK. Cabinets are designed for specific speakers, the size of the cabinet is directly related to the frequency response to bring out the best in the speaker it is designed for. If you put something different in there the sound will be... different - and highly likely to be bad. e.g. the original speakers frequency response tails off below 50Hz, so the cabinet designed with a resonant frequency of 40Hz to compensate. Then you go and stick a speaker in there with a better low frequency response )doesn't tail off until 30Hz) and you get a cab that makes you sound loud boomy when you play one note and virtually inaudible when you play another. (this is a simplified example to get my point across - its more complicated than this in reality!) You might be lucky and get hold of a speaker with a similar response to the original. But if you're replacing speakers in Cabs replace with the same if you can. I found this out the hard way. now I have £200 worh of speakers boxed in my loft
I hear you mate; I've found out the hard way too it seems.... Just bought a Celestion BN15-400X to go in my Trace 1215 combo. The same as this one: http://basschat.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2009/post-2899-1234974845.jpg The resulting sound was underwhelming, to say the least The cab space in the combo is tiny really, as you can see, so I'm blaming the resulting sound on the fact that this speaker enclosure is far too small for the Celestion to work properly. Or, perhaps my combo's amp section (200 watts) is under-powered for the Celestion?? I dunno.... Maybe somebody could enlighten me...? Mr Fitzmaurice, are you there.....?? I wish I'd done a bit of research first The BN15-400X will be appearing in the for sale section here shortly anyway, for anyone that's interested. Still in as new condition
