1. I've just delivered my red Squier Classic Vibe P bass to Dave in person. Great bloke and a smooth transaction, nice to know the bass is going to a good home. Hope to do business again Dave and maybe see you in Leeds in December

4. A big +1 for the rubber in mouse mats
5. damn!! Sold my Geddy last year, woulda jumped at this Consider your post bumped sir and best of luck
6. Stewart drove up to Liverpool, from Leamington Spa, to purchase my NS CR4M upright. Absolutely no problems with the transaction and I'm thrilled that my beloved NS is going to a good home. Stewart was a total gent and a joy to deal with and it was great to meet him in person and talk about basses Cannot recommend Stewart highly enough; you can buy from him, or sell to him with absolute confidence
7. Bought some strings from Neil, absolutely no problems and even got to meet him in person. Top bloke, buy with confidence! hope to do business again
8. Very good point gents. The bass concerned is indeed very battered looking and is a defret I did myself on an old Hohner B bass (basically a Jack bass with a headstock!) I confess, I didn't even consider that the board is already pretty scruffy after my defret job For the meantime, I'm getting some hardly used DR sunbeams on the cheap, off Jellyknees, as he lives pretty close to me. I'll see how those are. In the long run though, perhaps I will just revert back to what I use on my fretted basses anyway, we'll see... Thanks guys, you made me think...
9. Excellent input guys, lots of food for thought!! Thanks very much for all your recommendations
10. Hello all I'm looking for string recommendations. Don't want the dead thud of a flatwound, but want the smooth finish. I'm aware of D'Addario half rounds but are there any alternatives I should also be aware of? Basically looking for something that's got a bit of life and sustain to it, but isn't gonna chew up the fretboard cheers Bob
11. No NS love out there, or is it a case of no cash out there...? I'm guessing the latter, given these hard times! I'm still wrestling with this, whether to let it go or not.... Any feedback on the listing would be much appreciated (pics could probably be better I know) Just to clarify, delivery will be done by me personally, either direct to your home if feasible distance wise, or to a halfway meet point that can be negotiated.
12. Just sold a set of strings to uke. Instant payment, good comms and no problems. Would happily do business again
13.
Pm'd
Sold pending the usual...
14. I had a five string version of this. These really are great for the money. Would be a fantastic first time sixer for somebody out there...
15. That's a bargain and a half!! Why does this always happen when I ain't got the money and don't live in Woking ffs!! Have a bump sir...
16. Ok guys, after much heartache and umming and ahhing, I've decided to let my beloved NS CR4M go.... It's just not getting played enough at the moment and could really do with the cash, you know how it is... I bought the bass new from the Bass Centre in 2002 for £1895 and since then it has seen a lot of use, both professionally and recreationally. This is the real deal, made in the Czech Republic, featuring both EMG's and the NS polar piezo pickup in the phenolic bridge. Check out the specs for yourself here on the NS website here Anyone who knows NS basses will know what they're looking at anyway, I'm sure. The bass has been lovingly cared for over the past 9 years and is in excellent condition. There are however a few minor dings/ markings on the bass. I have tried my best to point these out in the pics, but it was really difficult to do so, as it's more a case of feeling them, as opposed to seeing them. For example, if you run a finger along the curved bottom end of the bass, it feels a little bumpy due to small dings, but these are pretty invisible when just looking at the bass The most significant mark is on the back of the bass, where the chrome stand screws in (see pic) but once the bass is on the stand, this totally invisible of course. The dings and markings on the bass were largely due to the pretty sub standard tubular gig bag that came with the bass. I replaced this a few years back with an Undercover gig bag from America. This offers much more protection than the standard tubular bag that came with the bass. It has a pocket for the chrome stand and a bow pocket, as well as another pocket for strings, rosin etc. As for the strings, I've been using Pirastro flexocor Orchs over the past few years, to get closer to the sound of a DB. The sound is much damper with these (especially the E string) but they don't work very well with the EMG's as they are rope core. Although, the original NS flatwounds are not to everyone's taste, I've put them back on the bass, so any potential buyer can experience the full range of sounds of the bass, through both the EMG's and the Polar bridge pickup. Lots of mmwahh and sustain from these! I will also include the Pirastros though, which alone cost me £110 new! There is also a German style bow and some Pops rosin I will throw in. I'm now looking for £950 and will sort out delivery (in the UK) - unless the bass can be picked up from Liverpool. Any questions, send me a pm. Thanks for looking, here's some pics....
17. Now then chaps.. Here's a set of short scale Rotosound strings - RS66s, gauges 40, 50, 70 90 I bought these in Cambridge last year while on tour, desperately needing a spare set for my P bass. Went to put them on the other day and lo and behold, realised they were in fact short scale!! Good job I didn't have a string emergency on tour then... Anyway, the package is ripped open as you can see, but the strings are totally unused and have a nice blue winding on them. They cost me the princely sum of £21.99, but whoever wants them can have them for £10.00 (Paypal gift, bank transfer or what have you..) - I'll sort out the postage.. Remember these are short scale
18. Ahh, I gotcha. Well explained. Rather than solder to back of pot, could I solder a wire from the copper to the sleeve of the jack socket? I can solder to the jack terminals confidently but I'm scared of damaging pots with my crap soldering and losing top end again
19. Is it absolutely necessary to solder a wire direct from the copper to the back of a pot? I was wondering whether it would suffice that the copper hanging over the top of the cavities is in direct contact with the copper on the back of the pickguard and this copper on the back of the pickguard is in contact with the earth of the jack socket (the sleeve) anyway. I've just done this very process (exactly as above) on my Squier CV P and there seem to be no issues... Tried the process with my other P bass last year and was assisted by a few members on here (Ou7shined and a few others, ta chaps!) - but i messed it up. I was convinced the copper had severely altered my sound and i'd lost the very top end (through the capacitance added by the copper). I then realised that it was my own sh*te soldering that was the prob With the Squier P, I've just installed one of john's (Kiogon) fine harnesses with screw terminals, so no bodged soldering occured this time No loss of top end and seems to be all well. Just need to know whether I absolutely should've soldered a wire from the copper to a pot....
20. Ok guys, it's as simple as this..... P bass harness ordered from John on Thursday night. P bass harness arrived on the Saturday morning. Top quality product and service from a top bloke, can't recommend him enough. BUY WITH CONFIDENCE!
21.
I think he was using a Steinberger on Signals and maybe on P/G too? I personally have stopped caring which instrument he used and just started to enjoy his playing. Too much hearsay and guesswork! Actually, I'd never really noticed before just how much grit/grind/distortion he has used over the years. And the fact that even our practiced ears can't tell whether he is playing a Rick, J, P, Steinberger or Wal (well, actually the Wal is the easiest one to pick out) says a lot about the mantra of the tone being in the fingers!
Check this out, Geddy discussing the basses he's used over the years. posted it in another thread but here it is again. enjoy, very interesting Geddy talks about his basses
22. and how about picking up the black Jazz in a pawn shop for $200!!! Good grief....!
23.
"Play so fast they can't tell that you're out of tune. That's the secret to playing fretless bass"
Quality Malignant Narcissism is awesome innit?
