2.
I resorted to wall hangers.
Hanging children from wall hangers also attracts the attention of child protection services. Proceed with caution!
3.
That is as packed as our gig was last night!......No I am not exagerating, we played to the barstaff only...how I love the soullessness of a covers band
And I've been there!
4. I bought Zoot (mim Fender Jazz fretless) from outspoon a couple of months back. Brilliant guy to deal with. The bass was well packaged prior to shipping and the communication was brilliant. Kept me informed of everything that was happening at every stage of the process. Bass exactly as described. Buy with confidence folks. Best of luck with the sale. Tempted myself but funds won't allow at the moment.
5.
Mr Zed, thanks - good to see such a constructive and helpful post. I too dislike the look of the J Retro knobs and the solution detailed (and very well photographed) is an excellent one
Thank you for your kind words lozbass. I'm a stickler for detail and basses (and my other passion motorbikes) just have to look and function right. There is no question that the chrome knobs that come with the East are better quality than the Fender items but, to me, a Jazz should look like a Jazz. I'm happy with the look now.
6.
and me! lol
Me too - but I'm after a Jazz (in my dreams). Fantastic looking bass this. 1964 was a good vintage.
7.
They're plastic, IIRC, wouldn't it be pretty easy to ream them out a touch for the East pots?
Sorry for re-hashing an old thread but I was interested in doing the same with my fretless jazz. Ordered the Fender concentric knobs from the States which cost around £35 for the three inc shipping & broker fees etc The ebay seller was musicpartsguru. I expected to have to ream them out a touch to fit the East pot shafts and I wasn't surprised to find that this was indeed the case. This would have been better being done in a lathe but I only have a cordless drill, a selection of drill bits and some allen keys. Anyway, found the nearest drill size, stuck the knobs in a vice and hey presto - job done. 9. New photos added since we've had some sun in Bolton over the weekend - didn't last long (raining again now) but long enough to take these and get a ride on the bike
10. Always nice to hear some exciting news for a fellow member of this 'ere forum! Congratulations Clarky. If you get to do an interview at some stage it may be worth canvassing for opinion on which fretless to sell.
11. I keep coming back to drool over the pics of this bass. It really is stunning. Got Sadowsky GAS now! Bugger!
12. Yesterday afternoon I was up at Rivington Barn (a local bikers meeting place between Bolton & Chorley) and a guy pulled up on a Ducati Desmosedici RR Motogp replica. Holy-mother-of-christ. That thing sounded like nothing else on earth. Music to my ears!
13. I had just one bass at a time for years and years. The thought of owning more than one at a time didn't even enter my head. The I discovered basschat!!!
14. The Cardiff Arena is the perfect venue for a wedding reception don't you think?
15. I'm with Clarky on this one - the seller is free to ask for whatever price they want. It is their bass after-all. At the end of the day, it is the buyer who dictates the financial worth of an item by what they are prepared to pay for it. So the bass will either sell at the asking price, below the asking price (either by PM offer by a potential purchaser or price drops by the seller) or not at all.
16. I'm black and I'm proud!
17. Lovely - congrats on your new bass. Looks stunning now, even better when HJ has finished with it
18. Go to Halfords and ask for a bike box. They're usually happy to give them away as they have to get rid of them anyway. Being creative with a Stanley knife and some bubble wrap will do the trick. Nice and easy. Parcel force will collect from you and it usually costs less than £20. Nice looking bass btw - the mods are very classy.
19. Just bought an East J-Retro pre-amp from Stuart. A very smooth, pleasant transaction - no issues what-so-ever. Top chap - Thanks Stuart.
20.
How's the MM Marcus?
I thought you had a stutter there for a minute :-)
21.
So you basically want a passive instead of active then? Have you ever played the mid 90s fender deluxe jazz basses?
Yep - passive or the option of active /passive would be nice. You managed to say in one small sentence what took me a paragraph to say :-) I have been told that I can waffle! Never tried a mid 90's deluxe. Heard good things though especially about the Suhr pups.
22.
Sorry for the dopey pm your in Bolton I'm in Manchester - good start. But why oh why would you want to swap for a us standard?? I just don't understand...
Yep - seems strange but i've got serious GAS for a standard US Jazz. I've never owned one and when I started playing bass 33 years ago I started on a Satellite Jazz copy. Always wanted the real thing. When I could afford one, I went for the deluxe as, to me, it was a step on from a standard. I've since acquired a EBMM 25th Anniversary that does the active sound really well (as does the deluxe) so I thought a nice passive Jazz would give me another tonal flavour and it would also fulfill my youthful ambition. I also really like the newer (2008-on) jazzes. The quality seems to be spot-on and I like the high mass bridge etc. A 2012 model with the CS pickups would be even better. If this doesn't sell, I won't be upset. I is a beautiful instrument. I may rip out the active pre-amp and replace it with an East J-retro deluxe that has the active/passive switch giving me the best of both worlds. I've just bought an East J-Retro to install in my MIM fretless (again the choice of active/passive is a big plus for me). Still probably doesn't make much sense but in my mind it is completely clear. Well apart from the pre Erniee Ball Stingray that has just gone up for sale, and maybe an ACG or an Overwater...............
23. Hi Bassbunny - i'll take this. I'll drop you a pm.
