5.
I thought this was sold!
Yes it had! The perils of the BC market place.
I'm currently looking to upgrade to a better bass and just want to aks a quick question. How does the sound and neck compare to a standard US Fender Jazz? Please excuse my ignorance, but I've never tried a Sterling (or any Musicman) before. At a price like this I really want to go for it - even doing a round trip from the Northwest!
I haven't A/B'd a Sterling and a Jazz but people do say the feel is quite the same. Soundwise, you can definitely get a USA Std sound from the Sterling. I tried a new Jazz not too long ago and it was very modern and burly and loud which is easy to create with the 3-band EQ and toggle switch. Some more experienced BC'ers will be able to shed more light on differences and feel etc, there is a thread on Sterlings in the 'Basses' forum, that will hopefully answer any queries you may have.
6. Bump. Someone please buy this!!
7. Is this still available?
8. Feel free to leave any comments or feedback.
9.
Hi Everyone, For sale I have an EBS Multicomp, in excellent used condition. 10. I'd be interested in the ABM.
11. I've heard the tone in reviews for the Terror Bass and although it wasnt a thorough test the tone didnt really appeal to me. The Markbass sound is very attractive to my ears, but I will keep my mind open to other options too.
12. Hi, Predicament: Which Markbass head to get? The Markbass Little Mark Tube or the Markbass Little Mark Rocker. Both are around the 650-700 mark, both kick out 500 watts @ 4 ohms, both have the same EQ section, both have tubes in them somewhere. The only difference, as far as I can tell, is the way the tube 'blend' is controlled: Little Mark Tube: 'Mix' Control from full solid state to full 'tube' sound. Little Rocker: 'Tube Drive' Control which only controls drive......obviously. My question is which would be 'better' overall? Does the Rocker already have the tube sound before the drive is kicked in? Is only being able to 'drive' the tubes a problem? I know that Markbass amps are known for being warm sounding anyway..... This is the predicament I find myself in. The obvious answer is to try them both but I have nowhere locally or within reasonable distance to try them so I'm asking you, the good people of Bass Chat, for your opinions. I know Markbass is very popular on here so I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this topic for me. Here are the German YouTube reviews, I know they are in German but they give a good indication of the kind of sounds you can get from these bad boys: MarkBass Little Mark Rocker 500 MarkBass Little Mark Tube
13.
You haven't bought a very vintage sounding bass, but a used Ampeg SVT3PRO (with valve pre) will get you into the ballpark. Basically any Ampeg will be pretty good at that vintage tone. The Markbass LM2, 3 or LMK are very warm sounding amps. Hartke or Peavey could be a good stop gap until you can afford something better. I think you'll be able to get a good sound out of most amps through a BFB Super12.
The Marcus was definitely a lot more vintage sounding than the new American Standard and the Geddy seemed a bit brittle for my liking. Then again I dont want to pretend that I'm an expert, being in an Alt Rock band, the ability to boost the bass and treble appealed to me, and it still retains a bit of the non boosted tone in there which I liked. I have actually now seen a video of the MarkBass Tube 800 and Little Rocker being tested and both look and definitely sound very appealing. Anyone know of a good place to try MarkBass stuff out? (big stock, ideally not in the centre of London, nearer to Bristol) I think the LH500 will be a good stop gap. I'll look to upgrade at the end of this month.
14. Heres a review of one. MarkBass Little Rocker I know its in german but it gives you good idea of the sound you can get from one of these beasts. Now I want one!
15. What about a good valve pre and power amp? Ampeg?
16. I think you need to have a read of the Barefaced website. They say that at higher volumes (plus 250watts) the Super Twelve will be louder than a 4x10. Obviously I havent heard it myself but quite a few people that own them say they are deafeningly loud. The RH450 was good but I was trying to make sure the beer fund was replenished before uni starts and I didnt need all that amp. I was looking at the LH500, many a good thing been said about them and they go for stupid money too. Thanks for the recommendations. AJ
17. Isnt 'SVT Ginger Nuts' just stereo typing the ginger bass players that use SVT's?
18. Hello hello, After having to sell my TC RH450 I am now looking for a new head. I have a Barefaced Super Twelve T coming next week and I'd like to get a head so I can use it. I am looking for a more vintage style sound. I recently bought a Marcus Miller Jazz bass and play alt rock so something valve pre amped/powered would be nice. I've read that these cabs are LOUD but I'm not sure at what wattage. I'd be looking for atleast 500 watts as 250 was no where near enough (used the RH450 and RS210C cab). Can only really spend about 300 so I'd be looking secondhand. Any recommendations? Cheers AJ
19. Having owned a Combo 450 I can tell you that the wheels dont offer any 'heavy duty' portability - anything other than a laminate floor and the wheels will snag on the cab and 'burn through' onto the wood. I learnt this the hard way, first Combo 450 that came into DV I snapped up, walked it to practice about 10mins from my student halls along tarmac and paving, turned up at practice with a nice smooth wood hole showing through the covering behind the wheels. It also wasnt very loud. Struggled at most gigs with it, apart from a chilled out acoustic one, to get enough volume out of it to actually hear myself without it being cranked in the monitor. My recommendation would be to get another cab, the RS112 maybe, just so the whole 450 watts are coming through. The BG500 combos got some good reviews. Bass Guitar Mag's recent issue has a review. 4 1/2 out of five I think and they got someone to actually use one and review it for them. Definitely worth a look. Hope this helps. Cheers AJ
