1.
Dr Ducks Ax Wax is goo for cleaning just about everything. Have to use a tiny amount though. We use it in the shop and have had the same bottle on the go for about 18 months now!
this
 2.
We work backwards from "what will the audience like" and "will it fit in with the rest of our set".... and I don't care what I play as long as the punters like it!
respect!
 3. That's a load of bollocks about if one person doesn't agree then you don't do it! Grow up, it's just a song. It's not like you're asking them to be injected with ebola. In our band if someone suggests something we learn it. We see if it works well to decide whether we keep it. I find it incredibly pathetic when people won't play songs cos they don't like them or the band. Childish!
 4. Ok it's done. Massive thanks to Steve Robinson of ManchesterGuitarTech. Couldn't have done it without his advice help and work he did to save it. Also thanks to all for advice on here Grangur, JimBob, AndyJR, KevLindsay. and anyone else. Sorry if i forgot any one. Here are some pics. They are a bit sh*t tho. I don't know how to do good pics. I will try to do some in natural light.
 5.
OP What did your drummer say? Or am I missing something?
he said roughly same as on here. I just like getting as much info as poss. Plus i take a perverse delight in people disagreeing on the internet
 6.
Both and neither. Hi and low may refer to the output level of the instrument, usually active versus passive, but it also may refer to the gain applied to that input by the amp, hi gain for passives, low gain for actives. As a method of last resort, and at the risk of having your Man Card revoked, you might consider looking at your amp manual to find out which applies to your amp. Nah...
That's what i initially thought, the active and passive thing!
 7. I was having a discussion about this last night with my drummer, also a guitarist and runs a recording studio. He knew the answer. Anyway out of interest i decided to look online. Came across this page! Who is right? http://music.stackexchange.com/questions/3473/difference-between-hi-and-low-on-amps
 8.
For a part of my Uni course,I have to do a 45 minute solo performance. I have hundreds of ideas but I'm not quite sure what would fit the criteria for the grading it has to be at least grade 8 and generally an all round good performance, I am being marked on style, technique, musicianship and context. the pieces I have decided so far are. Blues for Alice Portrait Tracy Continuum Has anyone got any suggestions, I'm not really strong on slap bass but any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
I think if you did those you'd be fine! When i did my degree solo thing i did a few grade 8 rock school things and then loads of impriovistaion. I gave them chord charts that i was improvising over, threw in a few gimmicky techniques, tapping, chordal tapping etc. Got a first for that section.
 9. Probably won't be entering these anymore but will try my best to vote all the time. This time, as always, I've gone for the one that most represents the picture. Which is Dads Cheers, Good luck, merry christmas and a happy new year!
 10. I like reading these threads to see 1) how long it takes someone to be against a nice, simple idea, 2) who it is 3) how long and if the reaction to, takes over the thread 4) i like trying to guess who it will be
 11.
There are a few that aren`t keen
And the winner of understatement of the year goes to......
 12. Does anyone know what the best stand for Metal is?
 13. The X factoe one ain 't Zep tho. I think it's that Violin quartet of hot woman that did well on BGT. Would that be the same as it's not a zep recording but a recording owned by cowell. I may be wrong, but them violin woman def did a version!
 14.
Humble apologies, noble Lord, the situation has been rectified. It may be a tad late for collecting votes, though. Sorry...
ha ha no problem mate. I was just havin a laugh
 15. No votes! No play of the day!.........was it really that bad. Ha ha
 16.
I can play 2 or 3 covers ,I'm ok with tab I do find I need to break it down into small bits
ssh! don't let the TAB nazi's here you say that!
 17.
I think I possibly misunderstood what you meant, sorry. Asking questions of the tutor shows, to me anyway, that you're learning and involved in what's going on.
Sound, no problem!
 18.
Hmm, but you go to your tutor because they know more than you, and you want to improve. I give my students aims and objectives, based around what they want to learn. I explain at the start of each lesson what we're going to do, and ask at the end if they're ok with what we've done.
I didn't challenge everything they said, but a lot. I found I learned more from discussing why that just following blindly. Play this cos i said so etc! It served me well. I have a degree in music, understand theory. get some goods gigs. Also after a while when you get an understanding of music teachers don't necessarily know more than you just because they are teachers. Whilst doing my degree there were at least two lecturers who a number of us knew more than.
 19. Played the Bord Gais Theatre in Dublin last night. Great gig the crowd there were brilliant. it's the second time I've played there and both times the audience were incredible. Beautiful modern theatre too! The only pisser was that I made a couple of mistakes. Then went on the piss in Temple Bar. Rough as chuff this morning.
 20.
That might be good for you, however you will learn those notes from learning the scales. Learning those scales is really important. Don't challenge your teacher. Blue
I always challenged my teachers! I think it's necessary. They is no point doing things blindly. You gain better understanding by asking why and then getting an explanation.
 21. Voted for the one that made me smile the most and the one I think that fitted the PIC the best. I think it perfectly suited the image of two old dears dancing!
 22.
Another thought: you know how we always end up having conversations on here about tone, and the usual conclusion is "see how it sounds in a band setting"? I do wonder how often guitarists have that kind of conversation, or whether they draw any distinction between "sounds good in my room" and "sounds good with the rest of the band." This is especially important in a two-guitar setup, where they'll be fighting for similar space in the mix. Maybe your lead guitarist should try cutting his low frequencies, and rhythm guy can try and find a slightly warmer tone that can sit just above your bass but not get in lead guy's way. Obviously I'm just making the vaguest suggestions with no idea of your various tone preferences, but a little judicious EQing might clear up the overall sound so that it doesn't "feel" quite as loud.
That is the main problem with guitarists eq. I just go over the their amps and turn the bass and volume down and mids up, mid gig!
