1. Blackmore is the f***in Man! True genius! I like that he's a stroppy arrogant awkward bastard. Geniuses should be!
2. Inboxed him....these are his exact words Yeah i don't know how much it will be so I didn't want to quote too little I will put insurance on it also will refund differance if it's less. Think I'll put it on the add.
3. Wouldn't know cos never done owt on e bay. I'l let him know!
4. I absolutely love Purple. One of the first bands i mega got into. Funnily enough though non of the bass players have influenced me. It was more the overall musicality of it with Lord vs Blackmore at the centre. Plus paicey smashing it.
5. Don't know if this is within the rules so Mods dump it if you have to. But an old friend who i went to college and Uni with is selling the below bass on e bay. Not a member here. Think he's packing it in. He is a total legit guy. One of the best. Everything will be sound if you bid on this. 6. Hopefully I'll finish mine tonight, Mix it tomorrow night.
7.
I've never felt tempted to try to tart up roadwear on my long term instruments - for me each ding tells a story and reminds me of experiences on the journey I had while playing that instrument and what was going on in my life at the time. However, I also really love the feeling of taking something old and beat up and restoring it to it's former glory, so regardless of whether you refinish or not I don't think you will be disappointed when you have restored your old friend to full health. Take some time and listen to your heart, only you can know whether a refinish will feel right - you can however sort all the functional aspects first before committing to the refinish route, and playing and hearing your bass again will fuel your gut feeling.
Cheers!
8.
Well, as you say, each to their own, but my preference is good songs and good performance so I don't care whether its so-called original material or so-called covers or so-called tribute. For me, it's the music and the performance that matters. So original or not, covers or not, tribute or not it can be good or not so good and so original, covers, or tribute can't be a test of how good it is. Anyway, it's really quite rare to see something actually original as so-called original is commonly highly derivative and sometimes derivative in a rather dull manner.
Absolutely nailed everything there! Personally I would love to be in a Deep Purple tribute band. My best mate is a Jon Lord fanatic, I know a couple of good guitarist who could do it. I just don't know a drummer good enough yet as i constantly have drummer trouble. Also a singer who could nail Gillans high notes. Plus it means i would have to do Glen Hughes vocals in MArk 3 stuff. Maybe two octaves lower i could ha ha
9. This may be premature as I haven't finished my current debut project. However, when I've finished I'll need a new one. I have a bass that i got when i was 14 in 1993. It was my first good bass. It's a Jackson Futura, Kip Winger signature. If i knew it was that when i bought it I probably wouldn't ha ha. It being 93 and me being into grunge and metal. Couldn't decipher what the sig said. Just thought it looked and sounded cool. Anyway, it's a state now and it doesn't work. I don't know whether just to give it a rewire and set up or fully refin it. Part of me wants to leave it as it is my original good bass. But i don't think it looks cool roadworn just tatty. So maybe i should make it look pretty again. What do you think? Here are some pics. 10. Some pics of finished headstock and neck. Fitted with Warwick Tuners. I'm gonna sell the old tuning machines and pick ups. all work ok just can't think of a decent price.
11.
Difficult, innit! I normally quite like the challenge of trying to 'realise' the compositions I dream up in my noggin. But sometimes - like this month - I'm left scratching my head. I've got quite good at creating electronic sounds I might be imagining using synths. My stumbling block is, as I imagine it is for most people, trying to create sounds that are convincingly 'real' - i.e. played instruments and of course, vocals. VSTs can only go so far in this regard, although the quality of virtual instruments is improving all the time. Still, there's always plenty to learn from trying. But yeah... I similarly won't be giving up my day job to focus on it anytime soon
I'm actually on it this time. No need for vocals. So far it's exactly like the plan in my head. Just have to record a guitar part and mix a few samples in then done.
12. i couldn't care less if he played bass or not. All that matters is that he had the coolest voice and was cool as f***! Let's face it who else could pull off the colour of the clothes he's wearing in that pic!
13. Come on! I mean who doesn't want to hear two hours of as many different combinations of E,F and Bb as possible!
14. MIne's written and the drums are down. It's just whether i can get it done in time. I'd never be able to do a weekend one.
15.
Didn't quite get them at first, and must have missed out on a lot. Wasn't quite sure what to expect. My friend who I was with, said it was the best they played. It was in your face from start to finish. I only had a couple of their singles, and 1 album. Now I've gotta get some more.
Issues is their best album of what i heard IMO. I heard 2 after and just thought they were ordinary. Follow the Leader and Issues are good tho.
16. Used to love them upto and including issues. Then just went off em. Still love them early albums tho. Would have liked to see them back then
17. Now the eurythmics are doing Fool on the Hill. Pretty cool. I love that tune....Prefer thr original tho. (Couple of quivers from Lennox)
18. Just turned it on and Dave Grohl's rockin out. Just trying the suss the band. It's Jeff Lynne on gtr an vox. Is it Lukather on Lead?
19.
[Robert Robertson] Ah, but will you find time to finish the opus, sir; there lies the rub..![/Robert Robertson]
probably not! ha ha. another unfinished entry
20. Got something. Like a contrast thing. Got something down already!
21.
We just have to accept that our works are a minority interest sub-genre.
22.
Now, now..! If I was an optimist, I'd say 'The voting's not yet over; there's still time for you to win..!'. * No, I'm not an optimist. However, your remark could be made by just about any of us. Of course, if to "do any good at this" one has to be near the top of the votes, you'd have a point. Getting a vote only means that one person thought your piece the best. No more, no less. Those that get less votes, or none at all, are not being judged as 'no good'; merely that there's better on offer. Looking at the current voting position (all is not yet sealed...), there's no-one this month that can lay claim to being the only 'good' one. Your piece is fine, despite, as you say yourself, being less than than that which you intended. For my part, I'd be proud to be able to produce semi-finished work such as your entry. The alternative would be for all of us that amass less than the votes we'd like to renounce, and participate no more. That would leave only one or two each month to choose from..! No, diversity is a great strength, and all the contributions reinforce that, and are necessary. Onward and upward; next month will be another challenge..! * (...unless you were aiming at the 'beaten puppy' sympathy vote for next time, in which case ignore all of the above... )
Ha ha. No i wasn'T going for sympathy vote...just playing along. Fortunately for me i have a high sense of self confidence, some people say narcissism...but they would say that as they are jealous of my beauty and genius. I just enter this for the crack the result is irrelevant really. I don't think I've ever voted for the piece that won. So it's all subjective to what's best!
23.
This thread has been re-opened after multiple requests and consideration from the moderation team.
The lunatics have taken over the asylum!
24.
I am beating the Sausage.... Errrm. I think I better rephrase that
I never do any good at this!
