Voted. It was the one that really got me and took me somewhere!
Nah, just kidding with the previous post. Great stuff, right up my street. I've left a comment, so I won't repeat here; suffice it to say that any remaining entrants had better come up with something darned good, 'cos we're well up at the top here. Like..!
Cheers, thanks for the comment too!
True, Tommy Bolin's solo albums have just brilliantly diverse music on them. Teaser, especially, is a superb album.
Word!

Ok here's my entry. From the pic I took the inspiration that the guy is calm even though he's in a dangerous, crazy position. So i decided to do a contrast piece between calm and dangerous. With a crazy section stuck in. You will know what i mean! With regards to the flute melody, this was achieved by cutting up about 40 flute samples into 1 beat or 2 beat or 3 beat phrases etc and arranging them into what i wanted. I'm not 100% happy with mix. But i have had a lot of gyp with my computer and cubase sequel. I have no time left as I'm away this weekend so it will be what it will be. Bass could be louder. In the weird section the band sound is supposed to be swamped a little. Cheers, hope you enjoy. It was hard work!
I concur with dad, it sounds like its clipping /peaking ...sounded great though !
Found the problem. My computer needs an upgrade. sh*te processor, so have to bounce down every 3-4 tracks to one. There has been a stereo enhancer switched on on the output which i didn't realise. Fresh mix time!
-
cheers pal, that's what i thought. Something is going wrong between mixdowns. Cheers, now to sort it!

Hi, Mines finished but i can't tell whether the track is distorting/clipping. I'm having latency issues and ain't sure if my headphones are on the way out or not. could you all just have a listen to this section of the piece and tell me what you think. Thank you very much! https://soundcloud.com/dreaded-ted/section
I am the opposite of Jus Lukin. I cannot just play anything. Most 'popular' music bores me rigid and, if I am bored, the audience knows I am bored (suffice to say, I couldn't play poker).
Weirdly i was like that when i was in my late teens and 20's. It was all prog and vai and jazz fusion etc and pop bored me rigid. Now it's the other way round (not modern pop music tho, urgh!). However, i couldn't write a decent pop song to save my life. when i write it tends to have a jazz ish, prog ish, rock ish vibe.

Blackmore is the f***in Man! True genius! I like that he's a stroppy arrogant awkward bastard. Geniuses should be!

Inboxed him....these are his exact words Yeah i don't know how much it will be so I didn't want to quote too little I will put insurance on it also will refund differance if it's less. Think I'll put it on the add.

Wouldn't know cos never done owt on e bay. I'l let him know!
-
I absolutely love Purple. One of the first bands i mega got into. Funnily enough though non of the bass players have influenced me. It was more the overall musicality of it with Lord vs Blackmore at the centre. Plus paicey smashing it.
-
Don't know if this is within the rules so Mods dump it if you have to. But an old friend who i went to college and Uni with is selling the below bass on e bay. Not a member here. Think he's packing it in. He is a total legit guy. One of the best. Everything will be sound if you bid on this. To Re fin or not to Refin? That is the question!
Lord Sausage replied to Lord Sausage's topic in Build Diaries
I've never felt tempted to try to tart up roadwear on my long term instruments - for me each ding tells a story and reminds me of experiences on the journey I had while playing that instrument and what was going on in my life at the time. However, I also really love the feeling of taking something old and beat up and restoring it to it's former glory, so regardless of whether you refinish or not I don't think you will be disappointed when you have restored your old friend to full health. Take some time and listen to your heart, only you can know whether a refinish will feel right - you can however sort all the functional aspects first before committing to the refinish route, and playing and hearing your bass again will fuel your gut feeling.
Cheers! -
Well, as you say, each to their own, but my preference is good songs and good performance so I don't care whether its so-called original material or so-called covers or so-called tribute. For me, it's the music and the performance that matters. So original or not, covers or not, tribute or not it can be good or not so good and so original, covers, or tribute can't be a test of how good it is. Anyway, it's really quite rare to see something actually original as so-called original is commonly highly derivative and sometimes derivative in a rather dull manner.
Absolutely nailed everything there! Personally I would love to be in a Deep Purple tribute band. My best mate is a Jon Lord fanatic, I know a couple of good guitarist who could do it. I just don't know a drummer good enough yet as i constantly have drummer trouble. Also a singer who could nail Gillans high notes. Plus it means i would have to do Glen Hughes vocals in MArk 3 stuff. Maybe two octaves lower i could ha ha

This may be premature as I haven't finished my current debut project. However, when I've finished I'll need a new one. I have a bass that i got when i was 14 in 1993. It was my first good bass. It's a Jackson Futura, Kip Winger signature. If i knew it was that when i bought it I probably wouldn't ha ha. It being 93 and me being into grunge and metal. Couldn't decipher what the sig said. Just thought it looked and sounded cool. Anyway, it's a state now and it doesn't work. I don't know whether just to give it a rewire and set up or fully refin it. Part of me wants to leave it as it is my original good bass. But i don't think it looks cool roadworn just tatty. So maybe i should make it look pretty again. What do you think? Here are some pics.
Difficult, innit! I normally quite like the challenge of trying to 'realise' the compositions I dream up in my noggin. But sometimes - like this month - I'm left scratching my head. I've got quite good at creating electronic sounds I might be imagining using synths. My stumbling block is, as I imagine it is for most people, trying to create sounds that are convincingly 'real' - i.e. played instruments and of course, vocals. VSTs can only go so far in this regard, although the quality of virtual instruments is improving all the time. Still, there's always plenty to learn from trying. But yeah... I similarly won't be giving up my day job to focus on it anytime soon
I'm actually on it this time. No need for vocals. So far it's exactly like the plan in my head. Just have to record a guitar part and mix a few samples in then done.

i couldn't care less if he played bass or not. All that matters is that he had the coolest voice and was cool as f***! Let's face it who else could pull off the colour of the clothes he's wearing in that pic!

Come on! I mean who doesn't want to hear two hours of as many different combinations of E,F and Bb as possible! -
MIne's written and the drums are down. It's just whether i can get it done in time. I'd never be able to do a weekend one.
