I would of thought Scott would have been the last person to leave a bass in his car... I wish him all the best recovering it,

Basschat feedback / buying & selling / the people on this forum

Hate to be the naysayer but do not let all these positive experiences get your guard down. I have been victim to many a con artist on here despite many positive experiences and awesome gear acquisitions. -

I haven't tried a lot of power amps but I'm real happy with my Fender MB1200 (800w into 4 ohms, 1200w into 2 ohms) which only needs an input of 1v which my VT Bass Deluxe happily provides. Made in Mexico too like all the new EVH stuff

Please tell me why I should avoid getting a Rickenbacker!
Ruck replied to Al Krow's topic in Bass Guitars
Ive avoided Ricks all 18 years of my playing life, mainly due to the price and what people say about their inconsistent build quality. Recently Ive bought myself a used but mint condition 2011 Mapleglo 4003. I love everything about it, even the weight and balance which are spot on. I originally went to the seller's house for a 2001 Jetglo 4003 which he was selling for a few hundred quid cheaper. Now if thats all he had on offer I would of walked away empty handed, geez that 2001 4003 Ricky was terrible; bendy neck, bridge parts had seized, warped scratchplate and headplate, broken string mutes etc. a total nightmare of a bass. It was probably clever marketing tactics on his behalf to get more money for the Mapleglo 2011 ricky he sold me in the end but I dont care, If I had tried the mapleglo 2011 ricky in a shop I would probably have paid as new prices. Such a magnificent instrument that has proven perfect for everything I do. -
oops sorry i wasnt clear I meant I leave it on all the time because for some reason the speaker sim button doesnt disengage it for the DI out just the 1/4" out
-
the speaker simulation built into it is pretty handy if you use a very distorted sound, as it generally sounds horrible from DI to the main PA... it's not the best sounding but it works pretty well.
I actually really like the distorted sound without the speaker sim (I run mine into poweramp/barefaced cab). But seeing as the speaker sim button only defeats it for the 1/4" output and not the DI output on my VT Bass Deluxe I dont use it.

I just took a chance on the VT Bass Deluxe. At first I utterly hated it. But after a whole day of dialling it in and altering my signal chain to optimise the pedal's input signal and output, I cant quite believe how close the effect comes to sounding like my SVT II Pro. (Im running the VT Bass direct into a poweramp). Now I have clean Ampeg valve tone with tonnes of headroom, which was my aim. Astonished customer here! Cheers Tech 21! As previously mentioned on this thread, the speaker sim plays a giant part in getting that sound.

Punters wanting to talk to you when you're playing.
Ruck replied to Les's topic in General Discussion
Its mostly the punters who are blind drunk or off their face on charlie. The ones who are blind drunk are too stupid to know the difference between a band and a DJ. The ones off their faces on charlie only ask because they are dying to get on stage and be the centre of attention. You can tell the ones who are on charlie because they keep asking you the same thing over and over again and get really pissed off when their dreams of being centre of attention come crumbling down. They then either try to steal a stage mic or jump on stage and dance whilst shout the wrong lyrics. It was common practise for my band in some places filled with idiots to form a band wall at the front of stage to completely block people from stage invasions. -
Its a scratch plate, just put it on the instrument.
But it must be a certain shade of piss before I put it on. Yes Parchment is the name they use on WDmusic. The White is too garish for the Shoreline Gold finish. Ill try the tea approach!

I was thinking of saving money by buying a white scratchplate thats already cut the way I need it for my specific precision bass and leaving it in the sunshine to age. How many weeks would I have to wait for the white to mellow?

So it appears the tweeter in a friends Markbass practise amp has developed a fault. Disconnecting it seems to eliminate a horrible fuzz sound. The make is a Le Son 2.5" x 2.5 " High Efficiency Dome Tweeter from the black speaker model of the MiniMark 802 250w at 4 Ohms. I cant seem to find a straight replacement. If anyone could recommend a suitable alternative that would be great thankyou.

Ive only just learnt about the bassist known as Freebo. I heard a live studio recording where he was playing with Bonnie Raitt. One of the blissful, smooth and clean bass tones I have ever heard. I would love to know more about what equipment he used. I understand from some of the google pictures he played a fretless P+J fender. I cant really distinguish what amps he used. I fear the sound I heard on the recording was him playing straight into the desk... but hopefully im wrong!

Yes promising talk for the ABM600, I shall seek one out to try. Im just not a fan of amps with "extras" such as on-board compression and octave etc. I like an amp to just be an amp. Hence why the Retroglide was so appealing.

Hmmmm I shall have to keep an eye out for one thanks. ABM600 or AH600? I cant see Ashdown on your sig.
