1.
what about bands who become their own tribute bands? The Sugarbabes - no original members. .
I believe the 3 original Sugababes have now formed their own band...
 2.
I'm currently touring with a Michael Jackson tribute. The moneys good, the songs are good, the bass lines are good, the crowds are good, the theatres are good. The goods far out weigh the worry of not appealing to bass chatters.
But what are the costumes like?
 3. Perhaps I should form a Crass tribute band....
 4. I suppose some folk just like dressing up.
 5. How about originals in wigs?
 6.
Some posters here seem to be confusing the whole "Covers Band" "Tribute Band" thing.
Indeed.Considering the first post was a Michael Jackson IMPERSONATOR then my spleen is being vented at Tribute acts, which I consider to be acts/bands IMPERSONATING other acts.Covers bands and function bands are a totally different thing.Want to play AC/DC/Kiss/Jacko/whoever tunes? Go for it.Just don't dress up like them to do it.
 7.
Things change, kids dont always realise that most of these big names with all their 'artistic integrity' will have started out playing covers in workie clubs, and before those days, in dance halls.. They didnt just wake up one day and start to write great stuff.
Very true.Fortunately they didn't concentrate on being in those bands just so they could play and get paid..
 8.
" Your tunes are great" - nice compliment. "your sociopolitical stance has made me question the way I live my life" - too earnest for me and just a little bit scary.
Sorry....I usually keep my Anarchopunk views off the forum.
 9. I took 10 years off due to a spinal injury,I sold my amps but kept the basses which I am using now.Depends how attached you are to the Fender, really. If it's just a tool, sell it and replace it with other tools. If it's a personal instrument, keep it.
 10.
I spelled rotten wrong. Actually, I typed rotten wrong.
No,you used your creativity to invent a new word.
 11.
As far as I'm concerned there's still no better buzz than leaving the stage with the cries of more ringing in my ears, yes, some might accuse us of selling out but it's a lot of fun.
As far as I'm concerned there's no better buzz than leaving the stage ( ususally thinking thank f#ck that's over,my self confidence levels are not high) with people telling me " Your tunes are great" and "your sociopolitical stance has made me question the way I live my life". Each to their own.
 12. ,I hate playing live.Put me in a studio any day.
 13.
I'll do it for a grand.
You're cake making ability needs to be exemplary..
 14.
Indeed. Live in the moment. Nostalgia is so yesterday.
Nostalgia's not what it used to be.
 15. What if I want to see my granny who died in 1995? Hire an impersonater?
 16.
So if you want to see/hear thin lizzy - how you gonna do it bearing in mind that phil is no longer with us??? You go and see limehouse lizzy - so good that they are endorsed by phil's mum
You accept the fact that Thin Lizzy are over and gone and you can't see them.
 17. Just to muddy the waters even futher, there was an Elvis impersonator who released a cover of Nirvana's Come as you are.Which was, frankly, awesome.
 18.
Quick point here but how many originals bands play weddings and functions
Mine, but it was a Punk Rock Wedding..
 19. Who wants to form a Wombles tribute band?
 20.
I'm surprised it shocks you, have you never been to a gig when the band says" this is a song from our new album" everybody buggers off to the bar?
No.Never.
 21.
. Where does all the great new, original stuff come from? New artists building on what went before. Standing on the shoulders of giants. That's how we progress.
Yes. If AC/DC had thought "bugger it,lets be a Status Quo ( or whoever) tribute band then Hells Bells would be out of a job.
 22.
fair enough then, wouldn't do for us all to be the same, personally I don't like listening to bands doing a set of stuff I've never heard before
No personal disrespect intended, but this shocks me.
 23. I'd rather go and see a band I haven't seen before playing original material, but that's just me..
 24.
do you not enjoy watching a band doing a well played cover version then? a tribute is just one step up from that
Nope.
 25. Nope.Still don't get it. I understand why people would want to BE in one, there's a healthy market and money to be made and fun to be had,I would have loved to see Jimi Hendrix/The Doors/Rema Rema/ choose your own,I didn't,deal with it.I have no interest in seeing someone impersonating them.
