1.
When I bought this bass brand new in 1976 it was Olympic White. The clear poly layer degrades over time, giving the creamy appearance. Where this has worn away you can still see the original colour underneath. All part of the ageing process, and considered to be very desirable as far as collectors of 70s Fenders are concerned.
I'm still unsure about the Olympic White colour.I have a 1978 Fender P in this colour (in bits at my parents so unphotographable) which I bought in 1981,and it was the same colour as yours, and the same wear pattern has appeared with white underneath. It's not got darker over the years and I'm positive the Fender catalogue from this period said this colour was mushroom.
2. Genuine 1970's Herco Flex 50. Worship it!
3.
Just did a quick Google search, and these things are impossible to find left-handed. What's that all about then?
You mean the guy in the music shop lied to me?
4. There's more than a few leftys here, and more than a few synth dabblers as well! Welcome.

6.
A little Thin Lizzy thing, eh?
It was on it when I bought it.....
7.
I had a T Bird with this mod done and it helped the neck dive considerably. The only down side is that it tilts the angle of the bass differently so it faces away from you - took me a while to get used to it as I prefer to glance down at the fretboard from time to time when playing. Made worse by my protruding belly, it has to be said.
Hmm.This concerns me a bit,I like to see the fretboard. And I'm not the slimmest person ever..
8. Black. With a mirror scratchplate.
9.
What about roll on artex?
You are my new Hero.
10. Thanks all. Tokai Thunderbirds seem to be even more neck heavy than the Epi's,but it's the only choice in a lefty.
11. Cheers guys. The Tokai is a glued in neck,so it looks like it's Black and Decker time.
12. Matt black paint. Carpet covered cabs are just expensive cat scratching posts.
13. Before I start drilling holes in my otherwise pristine but ridiculously neck heavy Tokai Thunderbird, has anyone here moved the strap button to the heel of the neck? Is it worth doing? Pics if possible.I'd like to be able to use the thing live, rather than just save it for photo sessions!
14. Don't buy a cheapo scratchplate off ebay,they don't quite fit..What colour scratchplate you after? I have a white one spare.(Off a 2008 Squire lefty).
15. 82 posts and no one has answered "nothing" yet?
16. I've got a lefty 2008 Indonesian made Squier PJ.In terms of build quality, finish and playability I can't fault it,and I have used it in preference to my 78 Fender P,as it's a lot lighter. And black. The pickups are the weak spot, slot in some aftermarket pickups and in my opinion you'll have a very good bass.
17. The as yet unrecorded "Mule".Lots of 16th's and 32nds and diads.
18.
For not being able to cope with basses much over 8.5lbs? Has this been a problem for anyone else, or should I just "man up"?
I'd like to say that being huge and manly means I can cope with 11 ish lbs of 1978 Fender P,but as you've met me I probably wouldn't get away with that.... Are you after an actual Fender? My 2008 Squier is a featherweight compared to my Fender.Perfectly good instrument when fitted with better pickups.
19.
Brown eyed girl, Walking on sunshine, Sex on fire
I think my audience would have contempt for me were we to play such material....
20. The bass solo from "Tits" is fairly impressive.
21. Nothing past the first 4 albums then? Interesting..
22. My favourite JJ moment was on the Raven tour, wher he leaped off the stage and gave a heckler a well deserved slap, then jumped back onstage and carried on like nothing happened... Musically,it's got to be Rattus Norvegicus, especially Hanging Around, the reason I started playing bass in the first place.
23. Aha.My memory's not what it used to be....
