2.
Quote"if you dont feel good about what you hear, its pretty hard to play with any conviction. and thats the key to it all." Unquote few venues have good monitors, and this "in ear" stuff is pretty much naff,at the moment. IMO
True enough,I think that applies equally to both amp and cab.
3. It's just a vicious rumour started by guitarists.
4. Do it.Make it your own.
5.
You look forward to 46... 47... 48... etc. And you keep rocking!
Damn right! 49 tomorrow...Still playing a Fender P down by my knees...
6. Burman's were always (and still are) my dream amp.
7.
I think we are getting to; it’s the individual’s use of the volume control that matters. I would be happy to see a large rig as then I know I have the head room. You don’t have to use it all.
Spot on.It's about headrom and dispersal of sound, not excessive volume. I have just played a small room with no stage using a Peavey MK.6 with two 1X15" cabs, and had plenty of compliments about the sound. And if I'd had room in the car,I'd have taken the wardrobe sized Marshall 1x18" W cab as well.
8. Resprayed sunburst makes sense.Have you taken the scratchplate off? Look deep inside the pickup and control cavities.
9. Definately not my thing.
10. Tricky. If you're going through a PA then the cab doesn't really affect the sound (unless it's miked up,and who does that any more),but if you're not going through a PA then the cab becomes important.
11.
If you walked into a pub gig, what size cab would get you thinking "that's over the top"
For me to walk into a pub gig and think "That's too big" it would have to be enormous.
12. Each to their own. Trace Elliot amps (the early ones, anyway) are the only amps I've ever plugged into and got the sound I want without any fiddling. Bloody heavy though..
13.
A. Why should I bother when I have a bunch of basses I like the neck profiles on? B. Why not then get a jazz aerodyne or something, which has the better looking jazz body too?
Possibly you're not a fan of the Precision?
14.
What about if they hate the neck shape, like me? That fotoflame P was gorgeous, I was drooling over that one for a while, congrats! However, as much as I've loved the sound, I've always hated the neck, to be honest, I love the sound of my P pickup on my non-Reverse TB 5 - it is a solid, meaty sound and it doesn't have a neck from hell.
A.Learn to live with it. B.Get one with a Jazz profile neck.
15. Fender Precision on full treble,Peavey Mk.6.Treble on full, bass on full, midrage on zero for starters and adjust to suit the room accoustics.Yes,I know the mid range cut is unfasionable, however it works quite nicely for my Punk band.Treble so the audience can hear it,bass so the audience can feel it,and mid range is where the guitar and vocals go.
16. I tend to go for the "look up,look puzzled, shrug shoulders and get on with it" approach.
17. Every bassist should have a Precision. It's the rules.
18. If I startedagain I'd just bypass the copies and go straight for thr Fender Precision.Except I'd have bought a black one first.
19.
No. A good POD X3 LIVE
The work of Satan!
20.
I need a good bass, good strings, and my brain.
And a good amp.
21.
if you are a M.U. member you get oodles of Public Liability Insurance for free
Anyone who performs publicly should seriously consider MU memebership.Worth it for the PLI alone.
22. New toy yaaaaaaaay cheers Tom! Top bloke.
23. From an engineers point of view, players wanting a deliberately distorted Bass are definately a minority. And I'll always ask if it's required, rather than their speakers are about to blow up.
24. They're not bad as passive replacement pickups go.£ 50 is a good price.
