More speakers = more air moving = more sound. The overall "tone" is another matter.

What you want is light loud and small!!! Not possible. You have to make a compromise on something. And your choice is either loudness or lightness/smallness. Are you gigging? If so is there a PA support for bass? At rehearsals is it possible to us the PA for bass aswell? If so then you shouldn't worry about being loud, the 2x10 in a decent spot will be plenty loud enough for you to hear and te PA does the rest for everyone else. If you need optimum loudness at rehearsals, you could try and get everyone else to to turn down!!! It is possible. Or a very good 1x15 is a great compromise between lightness of a 2x10 an loudness of a 4x10. Also a 1x15 should be better at articulating the lower mids where all the juicy bass goodness is. The Barefaced compact is your best bet, but depends on budget.

If you want double volume you need 10x the power!!! But by placing it next to Walls, say a corner you get +3db for every wall. But this is more in te lower frequencies. Still free power!!! Just use the 4x10 on it's own if it's enough, just have to suck it up and travel with it. Or save a bit and buy a Barefaced 2x12, it will go quite abit louder than the mag 4x10.
I thought this might happen Mart! You have to dip your toe I guess and hopefully the replacement Ray will be one you feel can use instead of worrying about knocking it about, I heard bassman is thinking of doing a home relic job on it anyway
Cant be any worse than my drunken attack on my Ray.

The older ones were counted as deluxe aswell, still made in Japan. They were officially discontinued, no idea why they brought them back, my guess is they are exactly the same. I would hope the electronics have a needed upgrade. Had trouble with buzzes and a dodgy battery compartment. Got rid of the 2 nicer finishes in my opinion.
As you have asked buddy im sure this isnt breaching forum rules. But as the head is going for 415 brand new I think you may want to rethink your asking price. But again I am only saying as you asked for input.
Where have you been!! I nearly brought a RIC the other day in your memory!
Me neither!!! For a long time I thought flats = indistinct tone loved by old farts who can't hear the top end anyway (now I'll go and hide from the stones some will want to throw at me because of the previous sentence...) The OLP last night was great. And yes, you can definitely play "blackeyed blonde" with flats and sound tremendous! I did miss the preamp a bit... no biggie, but yes, this bass will end up "activated".
On my ray, thEre is still plenty of top end but a different kind of top end. More pop than ping.
They are auditioning you but given you no material to learn? Odd.
I did ask, the guy said I shouldn't worry an just turn up with my bass. It was the singer who has been in contact with me so probably knows very little about the songs haha. It's why I'm thinking it's more of a trail, see how thing go for a while. That sort of thing. I'm doing my best to not get hung up on what amp will be there.... It is originals, and if I'm honest jamming and making up the lines as I go isnt my most comfortable way of doing it, but definatly more fun and "natural".

Cheers for the input!!! Although a lot of it is simple stuff really, non of it really came to mind. Haha. No material as such I've been given, although I'm going to learn some songs from the bands influences to get the general gist of the tune style. Don't want to turn up and play some heavy J-rock.

Hi guys! I'm heading into my first real trail/audition this thursday and wondering how I approach it, does and don'ts, that sort of thing. All though I've played with quite a few bands I've never really had to do anything special to get in, just sort of was given the role. The band is in the vein of gurney/rock stuff and they are older than me and so I'm expecting to be out done by there skills haha. Thanks Stephen. *UPDATE* So the night has been and gone. Overall it went very well, I took a lot of advice. I spoke to them more and asked what they wanted in terms of bass. Although I did mess up but not my fault(so I say). Although I wasn't given any material to go over before hand, the guitarist quickly wrote down "notes" for a few songs and was polite enough to tell me he was half a step down. The first song was ok, the singer asked if we was tuned up right to which I said yeah, then proceeded to explain that I was playing te actual notes the guitarist had given me. What he had wrote down was the notesas if it was standard tuniNg. DOH! After that the rest went ok, the songs were simple in a good way, and rather catchy. The song writing was pretty good and me and the guitarist seemed very "symbiotic" especially when he realised I was a huge the fan! Once it was over I asked what yet thought. "well me biggest fear was that you couldnt play or that you didn't give a sh*t. It's obvious you an play and you seem very interested" I'll settle for that, given my nerves and I'm going through a mid life bass crisis. I'm definatly in, anyway. Cheers for all the support guys.

A large part of some misery I've been getting is the fact I've come from guitar playing to bass. I want to be a good bass player not a good guitarist that plays bass. Ive been enjoying "regressing" by playing guitar and usinga pick on bass lately. I'll soon get bored again and play fingers hahaa.
Do you know, I haven't had to use one so haven't tested this recently, but I guess I would then pack something under each end of the cab..but since I have a semi para EQ on all amps, I'd would go for Bill's suggestion first. The last time this was an issue, I just took most of the bass off the amp and that worked.
Indeed. A lot people EQ at home at a reasonable level, then when they turn up at a gig and the volumes sore, you wonde why's wrong. Too much bass in most cases, I find. It's the reason I go everywhere with flat EQ and then go from there, and if I have to make a change it's usually on the bass part. Gramma pad makes sense when your cab is pretty huge though and or naturally bass heavy.
That's all. I can't get over the sheer beastly tone, the growl, you get with these strings! (it helps if you start with a good instrument, of course) My black OLP MM2, passive, fitted with an alnico Seymour Duncan SMB4A. I removed the ageing rounds it had a while ago and fitted these D'Addario Chromes 45-105. Wow. Very slappable too, just not ultra bright, but not as dull as most flats. I must get around to recording it. I'm going to the Richt Hoat Chillis rehearsal tonight with this one!
I Can't believe you've only just done this!

Not sure on the TRB but the EB may be able to achieve anything from £700 to £850. However for whatever reason second hand buyers are a bit anal about stuff being all original, you'll get a lot of interest in the neck on it's own, but OG EB ray bodies can be difficult to shift for a good price as it's hard to get second hand necks. Although there are a few people like ou7shined that pickup MM replacement stuff all the time asking as te price is right.
