1. Having not tried the isobaric 4x10 I don't know how it sounds but I know the 2x10. It sounds like a 1x10 but with a little bit more in the low/mid-low region. Which personally you don't need with the OTB as it's very bass heavy, but still reasonably clear. I expect the 4x10 to be the same. If you do go for that make sure you mount it vertically no matter how stupid you think it looks it'll sound far more clearer and appear to be louder over having it horizontal on the floor. The orange 4x10 is a mighty cab though, with wieght to match, but if wieght isn't an issue for you go for the OBC 4x10
2. I'm afraid the big block P doesntnreally sound like a musicman.
3. I must apologise to any one who is enquiring about the SKB hardcase. As I'm on my phone I'm finding it hard to keep track of who needs replying to along with who has paid and who has been sent what. I have trouble remember what the days in the week are. Judging those concerned to bare with me.
4. New job means more Free time. Looking for hopefully an originals bands that pretty established and willing and able to record. Something fun but serious. I can play in a variety of styles, reggae to metal. I'm very into punk/funk. I'd describe my style as between Tim commerford, flea, Takeshi Ueda(mad capsule markets) and Tom delonges guitar playing. While I'm not the best song writer I'm very able at following others and adding basslines to other people's songs. I'm very reliable and commited. While I don't drive I am not afraid of paying for taxis or travelling for the right gig. I'm free most evening and nights and currently have all weekends off. Please search "cut the heroics" on YouTube for some of my current work. Hit me up on [email protected]
5. My strings go dead after about 6 rehearsals or 3 gigs. Very annoying, some times I'm changing the strings every month. If it's just the E-string then maybe there is an issue with the string.
6.
is the muff russian or american? thanks
Sorry should have said. It is the American. As I understand the russian isn't true bypass?
7.
Well... I'm not so sure now. IMO the P should have a split pup in the regular position, also chrome knobs. The J should have a jazz pup in the bridge position. Just my 2p.
The blacktop range is about the 'power' of humbuckers. I'm pretty confident that the double P on the J will sound pretty similar to a PJ with a little less high end and more low mids. The the humbucker Js will sound either like any other generic humbuckerx2 or if they are indeed 4 single coils like they should then it should sound like a fatter J bass. All speculation of course. I want to go try one before GAS hits me.
8. No pictures unless people really want as I'm doing this on my phone. Continuing the slow removal of the built up junk I have. BOSS OSD2(I think it's called) this is a guitar overdrive/distortion pedal. Basically it adds dirt and the OD/DS knobs is contour that adds either a mid boost or a mid cut with low and high boost. Also a dirt knob to make it more or less noisy. The distortion side(anything past half way on the OD/DS knob) is really usable for bass, very aggressive sound, even if you use fingers. Also get a range of very usable OD sounds with some clever EQing on the amp. £25 posted, no box I know for sure but will add the jack-jack cable. Payments to be made via bank transfer, or come collect and take £5!!!!!! Thanks for looking feel free to pm me and checkmy feedback.
9. Bump for price drop. I also have a full set of schaller tuners, they are sealed and don't require screws as they screw into the ferrule that sits the other side, they make 2 indents however (to grip in) Not really looking shift them as they are the best tuners I've used but I dont see a project bass being viable so up for grabs for £65 !!!!
10.
Yes
I wouldn't ask why though, I'm sure it's complicated.
11. For reasons I'm unsure of separate pre-amp an power amp sections tend to be overall more expensive. Personally you should look into the many lightweight heads out there. A clear choice would be the SWR amplite, as it is just a power section. But many other light weight heads, even the OTB allow you to by-pass the pre-amp via the effects loop. The amplite has a lot of power for it's small size and weight, so if you are happy with the sound from the VT that's your best bet. You have to think though if you've been running the pedal in-line to the amps input then the Marshall will be colouring the sound somewhat with it's pre-amp. So best be sure you prefer the VT sound through the effects loop return first before making any brash decisions.
12. May just have to weigh in my big al for it's neo.
13. Neil is a top friendly dude. Very genuine. Worlds fastest deal for me came down with in a day of the sale thread being open. Stephen
14. Brought and paid for a Delano pickup the day it went on sale!! Top bloke with mad bass building skills, hopefully get to deal with again in the future. Stephen
15. My work here is done
16.
Thing is they have to take the weight of a heavier lump dangling off the baffle, being dropped and stuff, so the weight has to come up some elsewhere.
You are right. However the conversion from neo cabs to ferrite shouldnt be as dramatic as you may first think. Even ampegs PN series is only lighter by about 10-15 pounds than the SVT range. And a lot of the weight is in the box not the driver.
17. I don't know about it being brighter. The pre-amp is different I believe, I will try and find out. I guess I have to bare in mind that the Ray has a SD replacement, and sounds beasties than most other rats I've heard. I was rather disappointed by the lack of bit-y treble on a stock 92' ray. I will say that with similar settings on both the mids on the sterling are a lot more present and defined, but I prefer my notes to be separated the very high mid section which the ray does for me.
18. The gigskins amp bag is a pretty sturdy bag and I do like it despite it being quite heavy and bulky. Im looking at getting a smaller cab, and as I've broken my current dolly(too much off road activity) I saw this in bag in Gigskins Trolly bag case thing!, it'll fit the cabs I'm looking at but my worry is the wheels as I can't see/find a decent picture. Ideally they have to be at least 3 inches wide, like a decent set of caster wheels.
19. Found this on talk bass... Speakon Y splitter! Also I'm sure Alex would be more than helpful on the matter, asking him to add a second input to daisy chain? Worst he can say is no, or give advice on Y splitters.
20.
alcohol and DIY tools... dangerous combo! The Stingray is 5lbs heavier??? wow. That's another extra point for the Sterling if it still balances well, which I presume it does. I have no problems with my Stingray, but I like light basses. You could put some clips out with both basses, and see what the differences are. make it a game/poll
Ah sorry not lbs, meant oz. Lol But still the difference I notice I a lot during rehearsal and when I'm practicing at home. I will try and get some recordings done. It'll be interesting to see if anyone really notices a difference. Even with it's scars I still love my Ray, it's something I rarely put down in favour for something else.
21. TBH this is only the second bass I've brought and thought that I could see myself still with it for atleast a few years. Erm I did that with some sandpaper..... I was drunk and bored. it seemed like a good idea at the time, but atleast now it has 'character' I didnt think id be a fan of it but, the stingray is 5lbs heavier and it does make a difference to both the sound and my endurance on stages...
