Yes, I can appreciate what it does, and it's well executed. But valves only add second harmonic distortion - they don't add any other magical ingredient, no matter what toob fans would like to believe. [edit] They also add compression, but that's already sorted on this amp.
Second harmonic distortion?????pm me so We don't clutter up this thread. This tweetertone I'm not convinced about. I have an attenuator on my cab, so if I want it off I turn it off if I want full on high sizzle I turn it up. I'm yet to use a cab that needs an amp to control the tweeter. What if the can has no tweeter, do you have a useless knob?
Really? I just want to fix it so it's working properly then sell it. Are 6x10s and 8x10's less bass heavy? Or are all Ampeg cabinets like that. Thanks
Well to cut a long journey short you are better off taking it to someone who will be able to see and the tell you if all is kosher. From what I've read on the thread the cab is more Likely fine, you just arnt digging it's voice to well and arnt to sure how to EQ it to fit what you want it to do. The SVT-3 pro IMO sounded great and I kept it flat with tube gain off (cheers for clearing that up goingdownslow) However I've always used Barefaced cabs with have great warm but very even sound. If it true this cab has little to no mids crank the mids up? If I remember one of Alexs columns the meat of a bass is around 400hz, I maybe wrong though.

If I remember rightly the pickups are the same but the Roadworn should have the 60s spacing. This rolled finger board thing is interesting me. I definatly prefer the feel of my stingrays neck with is 16 years old, although the size shape and weight of the big al is more comfortable to play. How do I speed up this rolled finger board process?

I use the big muff pi and I find it's plenty usable.

A pick would probably help more than you realise.
Interesting thread. Apart from the finish, does anyone know what differences there are between the MIM roadworn series and the MIM classic 70s range? I'm asking because, as much as the roadworns have a certain appeal, I much prefer the classic 70s on looks alone. I have a classic 70s jazz, standard pickups, and I find it gives my US 75 reissue jazz a good run for the money. The US bass isn't 3 times better but it's nearly 3 times the price. Anyone know? Frank.
However the special-ness of the American build has meant you've added this into your sig, yet the classic 70's doesn't have "Mexican" before it. I'm not trying to make a dig at you just an observation, that I see fairly often. Also the difference between the RW and the classic 70s jazz is the Nitrocellulose lacquer.

Do they actual feel they way you say or is it just what fender wants you think. I do agree the neck is nice to play compared to others that are non-roadworn but that's it for me.

New Fender Jazz Bass - Should be happy ...
Prime_BASS replied to JayPH's topic in General Discussion
I've had this happen to me with a few brand new basses. I put it down to the fact that the new strings have been on so long and not been touched that they've become all toight like a toiger. For example the first few days my big al was great to play, now a week or so on the strings feel flabby and it buzzes like fook. A simple re-setup is all is needed. That's my opinion anyway, I setup all my basses myself anyway at some point. -
Right Mr Cetera, you have confused me a bit! I thought that dialing the tube gain to full on (10) was optimum setting for the tubes?? Oh.. please explain andy
All it does is control voltage to some pre-amp tubes, which create a midrangey dirt when on 0. 0 is maximum voltage and 10 is little charge. It's supposed to sound more mellow with it on 10 but at high volumes I could never tell the difference. I did love this amp when I had just too heavy and large for my needs.

What exactly is tweetertone? And how does it sound flat? I'm used to the warmness and tube pre dynamics I get with the MB LMtube, I'm just thirsty for more power and less weight.
-
Not for me I'm afraid. Although I did just buy some chinos with holes already in them.
-
MM20 I'd suggest getting a Barefaced midget, it's tiny and on stage with a bit of bass boost(makes it sound bigger) keeps up with the loudest drummers.
-
That may just be the speakers freq-response. Once its in a box however is different story. There may very well be a chart on their website that shows it's db at certain frequencies. You'd be better off talking to alex calber at Barefaced, they make a cab specific for this reggea dub stuff.
When I bought a CV Jazz there was no allen key. When I queried this in the shop, the guy told me: 'We don't really like to give out the allen keys because people don't know how to use them properly and then we have to repair the guitar'.
That's why there is manual?

For me it's a question of trust. I had a few MiM telecasters but never liked them as much as I did the squier custom 2 version. I've had better experience with the Japanese products so this plays with judgement for or against a MiM. However now I'm a Musicman fellow my point is invalid.
I love the photo's of the bass on the stand, the reflection of the pebbles makes it look like it's got it's own cloaking device!
Lol so black you can't see it. I eyed this up on eBay for ages, and when I had the dollar to get it. It had gone . Looks amazing, if I had the cash id take it.

9 times out of 10 I'm the only one that geeky enough to talk about most gear that comes through a door. I'm quiet happy to talk to anyone about my gear and and theirs. I like to play a game where I try and name as much equipment as possible without gathering around the stage. Same as Chrismuzz, it's surprising how many bassists haven't heard of markbass.

Big Al bass SSS It's pretty great, very modern sounding though. My favourite setting is all three on in active, low and high mid along with treble boost and bass flat. It's kind of like a mix between a J and a Stingray with added bass and clarity.

From what I've seen it's not been a good year so far for you bud, sorry for you really am. I'm the same really, this year has been kind of poo so far and won't get much better, this is certainly taking my mind off things. Can't wait to use it with my amp cranked! Try and get pics on tomorrow as I have 1/2 a day off.
