All good suggestions however all still a bit big. The smallest ones all designed to fit at least 3 pedals. I guess I could fashion a platform for them to sit and easy enough to cram in a gig bag.

I'm down to two effects (one is the arbitrary tuner) and as such my current board is now devoid of anything. What I'm asking is; are there any super small pedal boards/cases that won't look pointless with just two? I like to keep things compact/tidy so as long it fits 2 pedals and the 9v adapter plug it's all good. Smallest I've seen is the pedaltrain mini, still too big. I thought about making my own but like everything I try to do it'll be crap.

Ohm rating questions... Is this dangerous?
Prime_BASS replied to StevieD_FenderP2009's topic in Amps and Cabs
Might worth checking of the amp actually outputs at 4ohm. I've had guitar amps that have output 2x8ohm lol the ashdown superfly head. -
Didn't the OP just rattle on about how loud this thing is?
At the end of the day it's 30w, it can only ever get so loud. To me, home practice levels means the air pressure in my ears increases so much that I feel like I'm in 0 gravity. And the fact is that you can most definatly get something that is, a lot louder(bigger in sound, whatever) more practical, more road resistant and probably lighter, with it in my opinion sounding just as good. Ok so I do like the sound of an all tube head but in real world terms the suitable nuances of all tube amps don't make much difference in a band mix. Does look cool though.

You get a very nice used Japanese Fender P, for around £400 (ATM) spend the rest on a decent set of strings and setup, and upgrading it's electronics. I'm not fond of P's so don't know what else is out there.

I've seen it done, it some new age English dubstep/metal thing, like enter shikari. As such they played one of there better known songs with the intro and synthy bits played through the venues PA. My band, before we had enough material to string together best part of 30 minute set we used to play an improvised version of the ending of fleetwood mac - the chain (F1 theme tune) it was pretty cool but our vocalist isnt amazing and couldn't improv as much so we eventually dropped it. I recon it's fine having an intro song you play, but anything else, makes you look a ponse IMO. It's far more impressive watching someone play a song than them stand there while they play CD, it's not x factor it's just a gig.

Did none of this new gear of returns policy/warranty. As for cabbage: I can't suggest Barefaced bass enough. If you find the Nottingham bass bash thread there is a lot of praise for my tiny midget and the compact seriously loud, I down sized.... It wa that loud. Also the super twelve is 4ohms and will handle anything upto around 700w. That's a bit pricey though.
Playing a bass with an onboard preamp, into an outboard preamp, into the preamp of your combo, for instance, *can* work just fine. It seems a little longwinded, but hey, whatever works for you, soundwise. yeah it would work but why on earth would you want two preamps going into your amp??????
I've done it, ultimate in tone shaping. The bass preamp is set at 40hz on the low side, the outboards low is set at 50hz and then the amps low is set at 40hz, and if it's a TC Classic/RH 450 the amps low is shelved as well. So for those who like to eq change it up all over the place it makes for something versatile. Also some preamps can colour the sound. Right now I'm happy, I have my amp set to get a reasonably flat tone through the cab, I then EQ on the bass' onboard preamp and how I play.

Easiest an cheapest options. IMO Eqing- bass boost, low-mid boost(abit), Hi-mid cut(alot), treble boost(alot), I'm not sure how your animus voiced but at least this gives you an idea. High input gain helps aswell. Or if you are feeling brave rewire the pickups to act in series. This is proven to be 6db louder than series, with a boost in low-mods and loss of highs, but what you loose you can stick back in. Playing with a pick helps. I don't exactly how you'll do this without looking at some diagrams but its a simple job. As someone said, a lot of sound issues relating to gear can be solved with EQ-ing but you also have to remember that you can't make a chicken fly.

Me too. Purely for looks, the difference is minimal in a band mix. And I doubt the sound I'll be aiming or with it I'll need much attack, it's all in the fingers anyway :/
Have you checked GAK? They have a white Big Al listed at what seems to be a reasonable price.
I did however my experience with them in the past hasn't been favourable, plus I don't have the full amount to pay ASAP. Just got off the phone with the ever helpful Darren at The Bass Merchant and I've put my deposit down for : Big Al 4 string White finish Black pickguard Rosewood fretboard Triple singe coil pickups Should arrive in febuary. Can't wait.

Epic lol at Wazoo I don't what it but I dont like basses in anything other than White.
-
I like fenders, but for me right now The Stingray does in terms of design and sound.
-
Thanks but i agree with Silddx, too many strings and not White. Good luck with the sale. Incredibly this will only be my 3rd ever new guitar. The second new bass. I don't think I'll be too anal with it, I plan on gigging the crap. Just working out a deal with The Bass Merchant.

I'm trying to get a White one yes. Although BassDirect won't be getting any White ones until Feb! So my choice now is either a blue with maple F/B or seeing what Musicman20 is offering me. Just need to sell the Jag, as it'll speed the process up a lot.

Mark Bass LM3 (III) - Totally immaculate - SOLD PENDING
Prime_BASS replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
It always makes for a good read. I can't read it too much as I get a bit envious. I always thought of markbass as "clean" amps, the reasons I switch from an ORange Terror bass to the MB LMTube was the added clarity, extra high end, how loud it was clean, and "markbass watts". I'm only getting 300w out of it but I have to push it right to the raggered edge before it starts running out of headroom. I've had a few amps rated a lot more going into the cab run out of steam before you hit the cabs absolute limit. -
Selling this as now I have a more compact and versatile head, this will never see any real use. A lot of you know what it is but here you go. Here is a very compact DI/EQ/Drive/Tube Emulation pedal/box. You can use it in a pedal train or as a straight to desk DI, or both as it has a balanced XLRout and a line out, there is also an unaffected line out aswell, which bypasses all the circuit. I could go on forever about this thing it's proved very useful to me, I've used it as a DI, Amp modeler and a pre-amp mostly. However you can get a full range of drive tones from it, from full fuzz to subtle tube drive. Basically, if you need something done with your output signal this thing can handle it. It's very similar to the Bass Driver however this can be used with anything effectively as long as it has an output to input into it. IMO it's better than the bass driver, as the effected sound (which can be blended or completely off) is very mid cut, so the added mid control with frequency selector is a plus. With the effected sound blended off you get a very effective, non-harsh sounding dry sound, and you basically has an EQ pedal that reacts very subtly. On the outputs is a -10db option for very hot outputs A great pedal, that again I'm only selling as my amp head is a lot complex than what i was using. Comes in the Tech 21 embossed tin, with instructions (a bit tatty now with a coffee stain) the tin is in mint condition despite a a bend along a bottom edge (it arrived new from the states this way) all though I've used it a lot during gigs and practices, it's in near mint condition (I never stomped on it) it just has a small paint chip on the letter M, all knobs and buttons are perfect, like new. I'm asking for £105 posted or £100 collected. You can always haggle me down. Not looking for trades as I don't really need anything else gear wise, and I'm trying to fund a new purchase. Check my feedback Can get pictures on request.

After discovering the graceful active sound of the MM stingray, I've been yearning for something similar (interns of neck, and possible sound) however that at least looks different and is able to produce a wider range of sounds. I was stuck in a frame of mind of not wanting some from the same manufacturer. This was broken by playing a friend of a friends Big Al 4 SSS. I liked it when I first saw it last year but now I've played on one, I need it in my life. I think the only way they could be better is if they could have been manufactured between late 80s and early 90s so automatically come with the bigger bridges and Birdseye maple neck, or if they were roasted maple neck ( haha ) I've already emailed Mark at bass direct asking about them (really want a White one) and he says it's a matter of what they can get in. If I'm sensible ( :/ ) and sell my jaguar bass (in the for sale section, shameless plug) I can get it before christmas. I'm quite giddy with excitement. Thought I'd share the news with you guys.

Refinish my Modulus...what would be your bag...
It'll cost you hundreds to get a good job done (and it'd be a crime to cut corners on a bass like that) and you will NEVER increase the value of the bass with a refinish... if anything it is a guaranteed value dropper! So you are looking at spending several hundred pounds to change what is already a perfectly good colour and in the process you may well devalue the bass by as much as it costs to have refinished; it's a no-brainer for me that it should stay as is. Oh and I speak from experience. Having had several basses refinished to a spec/colour I like to find that I was never 100% happy with the bass and it was nowt to do with the colour.
I semi agree with this. A good job will cost roughly £200 which is a lot to say it will indeed effect value. Ive seen refin basses fetch semilar money as to what it would without a refin, bit they tend to take a while to sell. However if you plan on keeping it, and really want it done, nothing wrong with it in my eyes. -
Here's a question for the tone masters - even when you're admitting that you sound like yourself, how much variation do you find within your playing and gear? I had an odd weekend of seeming to play everything I own; and then spending an inordinate amount of time trying to make it all sound the same, instead of simply enjoying the different basses and set-ups for what they are. I'm not sure if I'm on the right or wrong tracks with that one (possibly a bit of both!) but it made for an annoying weekend, given my usual obsessive compulsive tendencies.
I only really have the one setup, I may use an active jazz on occasion but find I lose diffinition in the lows. Usually I change my playing style, example; softer the line the closer to the neck and softer I play, harder, the opposite. Though some basslines in the band I play softer but close to the bridge to still get the mid cut. We also cover beatles-come together, and through no EQing I get a similar sound by playing right at the neck and with practically the side of my fingers rather than the tips.

Jazz bass "bell" control plates. Never fit flush with the pickguard, despite most certainly being machine cut. The thing with Fender trying to "modernise" There are modern innovations, then there is trying to be cool. During the 80's you find the HM bass, nothing really modern about it, the third pickups adds not a lot to the sound, and the finish was dread full, and power jazz bass' too much "trying hard" without really trying. The carbon layer IMO made a difference to the sound and structural integrity to the neck, but the active tone thing was rather pointless. The thing nowadays is that "vintage" is a cool/modern thing. Some modern things I do like, on a traditional design. Like control cavities on the back so the front looks more clearer. The clover jazz copy with the concave front contour looks pretty cool.

Anyone got experience of bringing basses back from States/Canada?
Prime_BASS replied to Soloshchenko's topic in Bass Guitars
Again I repeat, you can try and get away with just walking past with it, but it is illegal. Anything brought overseas should be declared. -
