I would suggest you take tone out of the equation and practise acoustically. Then the tone can't get in the way of your playing.
Indeed "tone" is very subjective. All this talk about funk is too confusing for my simple 90s brain. I agree certain certain types types of basses lend them selves to certain genres of music. And indeed other pieces of equipment too, but in reality I doubt anyone in a typical audience is gonna stand there and think that you should be changing your pickups to alnico cause ceramic is too gosh darn aggressive for funk. However at the same time, I find anyway, if I'm not happy with my sound my playing suffers and so does my vibe/mojo/groove. Anyway. Try and feel the funk a bit more before splashing the cash as you may find that you'll "your sound"

I might be missing something but wearing gloves while you are outside working might help?
Hey Dan We have gigged together before I am in Taken by the Tide and BloodGuard (was Threnody). I have been wanting to get a gramma pad ever since i borrowed your cab as that was the best bass sound i ever remember getting at the central and getting a good sound there was near impossible. Andy
It is indeed. The maze seems very hit and misslately.

It's uto you what you want to price it as. I haven't seen a secondhand ray35 before. I guess I was just illustrating that you should expect offers a lot lower than expected. As always here it's a waiting game sometimes, my jag bass has been for sale for a few months and no takers so far and it took me 6 months to sell a combo amp here. Slower than eBay but then again you are sort of garunteed a good price without paying any charges.
-
I know it's not the done thing to openly talk to one about their own pricing, however since it's a "feeler" ... Ray34s have shown up, and a good one with a nordstand m4.2 in it went for around £380, and the bass alone RRP is around 600. Ray35s RRP at 640 at the least so if I guesstimate it you would be looking at offers of around £400. At the end of the day it comes down to what some one is willing to pay for it. Good luck.

Ok, been a while since I came back to this thread. Here is some gear I'll definatly be taking, but 20th is 12 days away and by then I'm Sure I'll have something else in the collection. Stingray Markbass LMTube Barefaced Midget And my pedal board which includes : sansamp para driver, boss LMB-3 and Boss TU-2
-
One of my main reason for buying a ray was the comfort of playing. I couldn't find any position on my jaguar bass that felt comfortable. Playing just a tad higher than the bridge pickup for the sound I want there was no wear substantial to anchor my thumb. The pickup position on Rays, for me, give a perfect anchor and a great position for picking up the sound. "Sweetspot"

I would suggest it to anyone who wants "the" phat tubey bass sound. I had one for ages and my only real faults were it's very hot DI and lack of real high end sound. It's got truck loads of power and bass. However I'm glad I swapped it round for my Markbass LM tube

I 4th, 5th or 6th the notion of a used Ray although you may be stretching your budget. Or there is the SUB option, I have one I'm looking to sell but there are a few on the bay that are in a better condition.
-
I paid in total £660 for my '95 stingray 4. Off the bay from the US including shipping and duties. However the case it came in isn't the original the pickup had been replaced, with the alnico SD replacement, as it died some how, it case with a hipshot D-tuner, and it has some paint cracks around the edge. However it's got Birdseye maple neck, so I had to have it. Despite everything I still recon that's cheap for one.

Here is my 1 Year old Olympic White Fender MIJ Jaguar bass. Ive owned it from new since november last year. It's in a good condition but suffers from around 3 bumps, one is deep and on the front but no more than a few millimeters wide. There is zero buckle rash as I made a point to not wear a belt when I played it, there is some grazings on the bottom wear it's been stood on too many hard wood floors. Since I've had it I've added fender custom shop alnico 60s pickups, a far greater pickup compared to the ceramic ones it had, a black pickguard (will send it out with the original tortoise shell aswell) and a black plastic surround underneath the neckplate. Will provide better pictures on request. Posted its yours for £420 with insurance. Or you can collect for £400. price includes both pickguards, dimarzio cliplock strap, original strap buttons, and of you want a very ripped fender gig bag. That's £300 of the RRP and £240 of what they usual sell for brand new. Trades: Id rather sell but I'm open to a few things at the moment. Barefaced Midget straight trade. Markbass F1 straight trade. Other than those I'd like cash sale as the money would go towards my new bass order.
This was originally a Laney 2 x 10” cabinet but I have spent many hours upgrading it. The cab itself is now well braced and fitted with BAF wadding. It is rear ported (correctly tuned) and fitted with a Speakon input rather than the original jacks. I’ve replaced the original drivers with two Volt model SB250, which is an OEM version of the BM251.3, details of which you will find on the Volt website: http://www.voltloudspeakers.co.uk/. This is a very expensive driver, virtually the same (apart from the surround) as this one, which sells for £161 (each) from Wilmslow Audio: http://www.wilmslow-audio.co.uk/b2508-486-p.asp The Laney cabinet is very compact for a 2 x 10. Dimensions: 59 x 34 x 35 (W x H x D). I would estimate the weight at around 18 - 20kg. The Laney badge is no longer on the grille, but I can supply it separately for you to fit. Power handling is 300 watts, but I have never been able to get it anywhere near max. It works fine on its own and delivers plenty of low end but also ideal for stacking on top of a 15" cab, as it is 8 ohms.
Delivery? -
I wish youse guys would learn to speak the King's English! Maybe Bill Shakey* meant that in his prose when he used 'nonce'. I shan't use it any more though - thanks for the tip! * William Shakespeare.
You mean "English" English?
I figured the thread about the Nottingham Bass Bash has been going on so long now without any real organisation I'd try and get started. So If you're planning on coming to the Nottingham Bass Bash, if you could just answer some questions it'll help me with planning it. On question 1, I did it in weekends to save space. Feel free to post if there's certain dates you can't do. I skipped 27th-28th because that weekend is the South East Bass Bash. If you answered 2 or 3 on question 2, please post to explain your answer. Thanks! Luke. EDIT: Looks like we're holding this on the 20th November at the Five Ways, although I've not booked the room yet, so if there are any problems speak up soon! List of people who hope to be coming (let me know if you want to be added)- 1. Tait 2. Simon1964 3. Pantherairsoft 4. Tauzero 5. dave.c 6. BigRedX 7. Johngh
You can add me to the list
Tell me if I'm wrong, but surely your choice of guitar will affect the 'inadequate' bottom end on a 6.0, or for that matter, any amp?? Having recently got a Shuttle 6.0 210T combo (after a Trace AH-500 with 4x10 and 1x15), I certainly don't find a lack in bottom end with a Gibson Thunderbird (yes, I know you don't like them on here..!). The difference seems to be that I don't need to be two streets away to hear it! My 2p for what it's worth
Under stand what you are saying but the head will only voice frequencies as low as 45hz. So even if you cab is a bassy 1x15 that can handle lows down to 33hz, it's still only going to produce lows of 45hz.

I'm 90% sure in can do any weekend. I recon the grosvenor would be a good place, the function room is quite large and the manager is usually very accomadating to peoples needs.

I'm still down for a meet
