Personally, I have always used a mixture and EBsuper slinkys or regular slinkys (depending on bass), also I only enjoy the sound they have once they are worn in a bit which takes about 6 weeks to get and then they last about 4 months till they get too dead. I've played with d'arddio chrome flats on a number over passes and they play great, and have a quiet a bit of definition in them, although they die (on me) pretty quick. IMO flats are good for cancelling out some of that unwanted buzz and noise but at the end of the day they won't do wonders and you'll have to practice and learn how to play in a way that minimises these noises.

soapbar humbuckers /parallel wiring benifits
Prime_BASS replied to Mark Percy's topic in Bass Guitars
[ Just saw what you said about running the Jag in series - if it's sounding boomy then don't! Series pickups often appeals because it's 6dB louder but at the expense of depth in the lows (you get more upper bass, that's the boomy stuff), and upper midrange and treble punch/clarity. Run the pickups in parallel and turn the gain up on your amp. Generally for loud stuff having both pickup balanced equally knocks out too much midrange so pan towards neck or bridge a bit to get more punch. Also consider using just the front pickup, that can give a very big but clear tone, or just the back for more compressed gnarliness. Get the sound right at the bass and everything else generally falls into place!
This is what alex has told me about the output of series wiring over parallel. And I understand now that my perceived warmth was just a total loss of articulation and clarity. -
Well pre-EB rays, in brand new condition are hard to come by. It appeals to me, cause I've been gassing for the string mutes for awhile. But for 2k I'd rather buy a SSS big all or a HH Reflex. Atleast I get more pickups, and more electronics for that price. The price seems a bit steep though.

"If you think the sound of the bass is more important

I must be too young to understand the appeal of that sound. It sounds to me as if he is playing a different song to everyone else while trying to play every note possible. That's just me. -

Im downsizing due to needs and available space. I've ordered a Barefaced midget, so the money would go towards re-financing my banks account. if you are looking on here or are a regular basschatter you know what this is, so hopefully I dont need to describe it too much. condition is like new, it looks brand new. with the silver grill cloth. Its been used with an ampeg SVT III pro, an Orange AD140(for sale) and currently the Orange Terror Bass 500w model. Its also only been gigged 4 times, once at with no PA support, no problem though didnt need it, could hear every note clear as day 200 yards at the back of the hall we was in. this thing shakes my house, and you only have to search it and find out all its praise. I'd like to sell for £300, collected (from nottingham) or I can figure out posting it, which should be around £25, but dont hold me to that. also I'd be open to trades on a very light 1x12 (prefer another midget) or the 2x10 isobaric orange cab.
Sorry guys. I've decided to either keep or trade for a Fender jaguar bass/G & L L2500 or let it go for the best offer i recieve. Looking for £400 for the lot. This is still a bargain basement price for what you're getting. Cheers, Mat PS:- Anybody got a Fender Jaguar Bass that they want to trade?
What? Are you keeping it or looking to sell/trade? It's very nice, however I'm very attached to my jag. And indeed the price did increase.
Epiphone EB-1 in great condition. Finish is superb, except the missing scratch plate. Sound wise it's thumpy, and a bit muddy but eq in less bass and it sounds a bit clearer. Its not great top end and it's not "amazing" but it's cheap and cheerful and is a great for dum dum dum parts, would make an interesting mod build aswell. I originally wanted to add a bridge PU and use dual dark stars, upgrade the bridge and tuners, then upgrade electronics. However gas has struck me and I'm circuming. I part exchanged this with Munkofthehill, and since it's been setup by me, although those epiphone 3 point bridges arnt great, the intonation is sound just the string hieghts may want a fiddle. Munk will give testament to my setups. Only selling as I'm making space for a SUB I'm eyeing up here, and I could do with the cash to help fund it also. Price wise, a firm £170 collected, from my lair, or £180 posted. Trades: Sansamp Tech 21 bass or para driver. Or one of those cheap OLP rays. Thanks for looking and please someone hook me up. Pictures are here Album
Still here bump

I got your pm so I thought I'd take a look, so I'm just gonna reply here. Thanks for the interest. However I'm looking to sell it, I want the money for big al. And Ibby's arnt my thing. As for the lack of interest. That's what you get, it's like eBay a bit, you can 35 watchers but it'll still end on 4 bids. The only time I got rid of stuff on here is by messaging lots of people. That's no dig to the guys here though, you just got to be abit more forward, take the time to get some decent pics and get a solid short no bs description.

I'll be interested in how it is as I was gonna get this over the OTB, but couldn't get one used.

Hate revive this old thread but seems silly making another. I want to upgrade the pickups to suit a active pre amp and still sound the bees knees through the passive tone control. I'm assuming that a good start would be the Seymour Duncan quarte pounders? This also brings to another point about the jag bass. That pre-amp, the bass is naff but the treble sounds ok, but the pots are crap, on mine anyway it feels more on/off than a gradual progression. Any ideas how to upgrade these?
Its a coil split sort of a thingymagig!
Indeed, my brain tells me it Should be front coil, both(humbucker), back coil. Or it could have a ghost single coil under it for more options. Or it could have parallel/series options.
