I like to buy brand new, and get super edgy when anyone else touches them. Especially now since my mint jaguar, that everytime I played it I removed my belt, got nocked down and has a tiny 3mm dint into the wood, by my retard band mates who are like uncontrollable monkeys. Other than that one mark it still pretty brand new looking other than dirt and dust.

Should I sell my Ampeg SVT-3 pro for one of these things?

I like the OBC 15 but I haven't tried the 4x10 which will probably have the punch needed to cut through. And either cab isn't that expensive. In my opinion the bass terror is kinda 'fizzy' on the overdrive sue of things but provides enough clean warmth to take an effect pedal well. You won't go wrong with an Orange, sound or quality wise. Also you can pickup a used big muff for little to no money, although are noisy as hell if you bass lacks the adequete sheilding. EHX offer a bass aimed fuzz, and a bass fuzz/overdrive although the drive sound is aweful.

I think as you grow more as a player you'll hate having a one trick pony, and a previous post stated that's a lot of dough for something that IMO would be limiting.

The only thing I don't like about is that's it's quite dark an the valve 'voice' I don't understand fully, in my eyes 1 is really dark and 3 is a little subtler while 2 is a middle ground. Also it reacts quite strange eq wise when it's on blend channel, it should have made one of the two channels eq options the total eq control for the channel. But for me I keep it all flat and have a graphic eq.

It may have been a dud, don't worry though some one has to get them. I've got the same model, I agree it has a good tone, and it does go loud, trust me, I had a full sized gig I. A theatre with 2 half stacks one being an orange AD140, and the master was barely pushed up to 4. Ive never heard this volume problem, I would suggest checking your cables just in case, many minutes have been wasted by me by not checking the cables. Could also try the lead that connects the speakers to the head on the back, and then hook up so e headphones and see if there is still an issue. These are loud though, trust me, I've cranked it.

As a guitarist by nature I don't see any practicke use by dropping to G#, what guitars are they using, eq settings and possibly strings, I've found on any standard guitar anything below drop D on medium guage strings is like playing on spaghetti. I barely see a point of going below B tuning. I'm still in the 'keep your gear and spend no money' side of things. It seems a tad unfair that you have to spend some wonga becuase of their poor manners. What kind of music are you playing? I'd compare your self to other bands and then see what the bassist is doing in those to punch through. Other than that +1 on mids though.

I'm sure I read earlier that some where worried about it shaking off the cab unto the floor. The guys at talkbass have the most enormous threading this head and cover everything, and theuly say that the feet coupled with a cab with a rough tolex, or carpet and it'll stay still. They also have a few tips and tricks.

Tubes are exciting and scary, I have an orange ad140htc, for when I'm slapping the old six strings, and it sounds. I know its built like a tank, made of gold, but I'm scared to take it any where for gigs incase any goes wrong. And hopefully your history with ampeg will prevent you from buying them in the future, I know I'm not buying a Marshall for a very long time, for the same reasons

Only heard the CL live, killer tone, I know nothing of the VR though. Ever thoght of trying before you are buying? Would prevent you getting dud?

The mag600 and that abm500 are the same wattage, unless ashdown site is wrong, although the abm 8x10 is rated 1200w at 4ohm, what kind of volume difference would that make? Still just becuase the guitarist amps are loud doesn't mean they should be. Have you played with them at lower levels, what do you do for practices? I would imagine lugging my own half stack or a full bass stack would get tiresome after a while. But still, getting them to turn down would be better. Some guitarist don't care as long as they can hear them selves, getting our lead guitarist in my band to not boost his signal during a solo was a ball ache, he just moaned about not hearing himself, even with a dedicated guitar moniter directed at him, in the end we won but the sound guy had to boost the volume of his moniter.

2 half stacks is over kill. I took my two guitr half stacks an a 300w bass combo to a gig in a relatively small theatre and neither of the stacks where abouve 4 on the master volume. And the 2x10 bass combo was only around 4 or 5 on it's volume, plus a drummer. I wouldn't waste your money on gear trying to be heard you may find it won't make a difference. You might want to trying experimenting with room acoustics and where you position your rig on relation to dead spots on stages, corners, curtains an in relationto your drummer and the guitar amps. You should try and suggest playing at level that you can at least shout over. Also the few gigs I've done with monitors I've had to stand at least 10ft away from my amp to hear it. You might want to get them to turn it down on the bass front and try and compensate your tone to increase in mids and low mods to try and cut through the mix I would like to try, what I call a stage stereo effect, especially since you have 2 cabs of the same spec, you should place each cab either side of the drummer. So you would have Guitar-bass-drums-bass-guitar. It's only an idea but hopefully the cabs will have a better spread. I'm no scientist, but you should try every option you have with current gear you have before spending any more money.

These things have get great reviews on the talkbass forum. The only downside I see is that the spectracomp for some doesn't seem to do as it says on the tin. But from what I've heard of it with my own ears it's the dogs bollucks. The lights are great for darkened gigs.

Letting them go is tempting at times to buy even more bass gear, or to live because whatever money is spare disappears. Also I find that being an intermidiate level bassist, your like a very good White Mage (from final fantasy 11) you are rare as anything, and everyone wants you. Unfortunatly no one wants to pay you.

My name is Stephen. I am a chef by trade, and all funds go towards GAS, which I have constantly. Although I am hoping to start uni this year I will never sell my bass gear. After playing guitar for 6 years, I took up bass. I never put my bass down every spare minute is spent playing, or listening to bass lines. Currently I'm running a fender jaguar bass or a 1985 fender power jazz bass special with a quarter pounder in the neck, through a Mashall MB4210, but I just got a great deal on ampeg SVT-3 pro, and I'm currently in the process of getting a barefaced bass compact. Out of the 10 or so gigs I've done so far I've some considarable praise for playing, so I must be dong something right :S I like to think I'm quite versatile player and I've picked up playing finger and slap quite well but I'm no speed demon. For those interested my guitar gear is epiphone dot studio in bright yellow squier tele custom 2. Orange ad140HTC and PPC 4x12

I'm pretty stupid, and even though I got B's in both mathes and physics, I have no idea what anything on here means. What if your amp has let's say, an input, gain, volume, master volume, what's the difference between the three, what I understand as, voltage attenuators?
