1.
Woah! These look super light and the 3gen with cloth front super cool! But do they also sound super cool? Reading the above it appears so. How do the bare faced range compare to likes of bergantino, Aguilar, vanderkley? Currently using a Berg AE112, was thinking of moving it on. (May have seen my thread in this section) What kind of wattage does the super compact put out? Playing smaller venues at moment with the odd larger gig and have always got by with the ae112 with PA support. Cheers in advance :-)
I don't have any experience with the brands you've mentioned, bar an aggie once or twice. The SC is 600w at 8 ohms, and I've used it with a shuttle 6 mad 9 (outputting around 350 and 500 respectively) Even with the 350 watts it can drown out most of the room at rehearsals, which is normally a full kit, a vocal PA (around 4 monitors) and a half stack for the guitar. It can really get very silly loud for its size. In terms of sound, it will sound how you want it to sound, it's a very neautral cab, not mega clean like the big twin but tonal changes are easier to hear etc. so it'll just amplify what you out into it. SVT sounds mint through it.
2. Still more than pleased with my super compact. Messed around at rehearsals and had it standing on top of the rehearsal rooms bass cab, lost the coupling factor in the lows so bumped them up some more, but had to turn it down quiet a lot, otherwise it was seriously too loud. Couldn't hear the kick drum. In regards to a low A, it'll handle it just fine, I'd be more worried about clipping the input on the amp than the cab.
3.
it's usually the guitarers fault turning their bass and lows up to high because they like how it sounds at home w***nking away on it and they cant turn the volume down or they wont get 'their sound' blah blah blah blah
Made me chuckle. We had practice today and we always go in and play "guess the settings" game on the guitar amp that we are left with. Bass is 9 times out of ten, maxed out.
4.
Probably for the best.
I had to hit my ipad with a stick to beat the ugly out of it.
5. Hopefully you dont have to wait all weekend for a reply.
6. The free lessons on YouTube Scott has done are fantastic, been through a few but admittedly not enough lol. The SBL academy sounds great and I'd enrol if I could musts the mullah. I hope the great work continues though as it's a valuable resource in my eyes.
7.
The metal Muff and LS-2, depends what era of his tone you're looking for... When you say similar, do you mean in terms of tone or in terms of having a clean and dirty loop? The Ashdown James Lomenzo is probably the closest other distortion in my experience as both are based of the Billy Sheehan Pearce BC-1 and have that distinct midrange. Cog effects made another pedal which kills that sound too! (Though may be a bit above the EBS in price too and for the life of me I can't remember what it's called!) Second hand LS-2 and James Lomenzo distortion could get you similar options and tone but for a smaller price tag! My only gripe with the J-lo is I wish it was more aggressive and was a full range distortion, but I have strange distortion tastes ha! Prime, please don't tempt me... I'd love to own a BC-1, would be a dream come true, but I just can't justify it since it would likely just sit in my house. Best of luck with the sale mate! (Plus I'm poor haha!)
It's a great bit of kit, and I do a similar setup on a smaller scale. Clean and dirty loop for my main tone. Having tried loads of other pedals, the EBS does a fair enough job as a BC-1 in a box, as the pearces main party trick isn't just having a driven and a clean sound going at once, it gives you loads and loads of patching options. None of which I can get my head around.
8.
I'd say that the Ashdown Lomenzo Hyperdrive is a LOT more like the EBS Sheehan pedal. The Nate Mendel model is very Tube Screamer-ish (I.e. Fulltone Bassdrive). Check the YouTube clips, you'll notice the difference. The Hyperdrive can often be had very cheap though!
The billy pedal is based off the pearce BC1 that he uses, I have one of them and it does a pretty good job of replicating the sound, but misses out on not having serious EQ options for both channels. If I remember the drive in the pearce is a tube screamer based drive. If you've got £350 I'm shifting my pearce bc1
9.
Looks like your local did try to help you didnt he? You asked his opinion, he gave it. Whats the problem? Not his fault you disagree is it? And for my taste, tapes or flats do make a bass sound dead so he was bang on. Wont be long before no one can ask an opinion face to face if everyone is buying and researching on the web. The shops will be gone and all advice will be from people who spend too much time on forums (like myself) who only have eperience of gear they own themselves. This probably sounds a bit of a spiky post but its not intended to offend btw
There are ways of presenting an opinion to not sound such a douchebag though. Telling someone not to bother is ridiculous. The best niche shop(I'd consider any music shop niche) is page 45 in Nottingham, a small independant comic shop, the staff in ere are brilliant, I'd go there over he internet any day. For our musical needs hotbox is again a small independant shop and the staff at again brilliant. Can't fault them. Not had any bad experiences in shops must but the generic shops just stock the typical fender, squires and a few Ibbys.
10.
I don't know about weight saving from a 33" scale. My Finn has that scale and it's the heaviest bass I have. Very happy to put up with that for the playability and tone which are first class.
I know it's not going to make much difference in the grand scheme, especially as I've opted for an ash body. My Finn is the lightest bass I've ever had, I didn't realise real basses could weigh so little, lol.
11. Thanks dudes. I thought about it loads before decidin, and if it's anything like my graft finn then it'll be amazing. I chose a 33" for the obvious ease of playing benifits, weight saving and the added tonal pallette it'll give in conjunction with the bridge pickup being moved slightly further away from the bridge. I'm already counting down the days.
12. We like it dry in our rehearsals, find the reverb very off putting. Especially when the gibbons before us have set the it up with reverb on "church hall" or something ridiculous.
13. I usually include postage in the price as it looks like to buyers "free postage" so are more inclined to look at your add which increases the chances of a sale sooner. If I want rid of something quick I'll even knock a fair bit off the price to get it gone sooner.
14. Dammit, I probably would have paid the shipping to get it up north
15. Basically ordered this: http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/portfolio/0102-acg-j-type-4-string/ , but as a graft spec. But with the SB single coils, 33 inch, passive and the bridge pickup will be placed slightly further away from the bridge.
16. Thought you magicked a super midget and decided to keep both lol.
17. If it's under warranty then fender still either replace or fix them, although I had fender repair one and it took nearly half a year for Christ sake. I use real electronics in Sheffield now, got my markbass head back from them within a week.
18.
I have no idea, if they end up around the £99 price point like the guitar heads then I think I'll be finding out.
I would buy 1 too
19.
Well, two weeks to go. I'm hoping to bring my '78P to show off its new Capri Orange nitro refin, so hope it will be done in time. Unfortunately, Alan (skelf) can't make it now. I'll definitely be harassing the AGC owners as I'm itching to try an EQ01 preamp. Also, I have my '69er and Crown power amp for sale, so can bring them along if anyone wants to check them out.
Temptress level expert
20. Offered to buy it plus shipping but he's after collection only. ArGH!! GLWTS
21. Diago micro 9, I'm not sure it comes with the patch leads. The one spot is a good supply too, our guitarist uses it, and that comes with the extra plugs too.
22. Pedal train junior, and a diago power station. https://www.hotroxuk.com should be your one stop pedal needs shop, all budgets accommodated for.
