1. Depends on quality etc, some cabs I've used seem to add brittle highs and noise to the sound. If I use a cab with a tweeter, it gets turned off.

My new DI pedal has cab sim on it that has a roll off from 3khz at about 12db every octave.

Can anyone work out the pedals on this rig?

    I can see so far:

2x Electro Harmonic POGs

2x Boss PS6s

Boss GE7

Boss TU3

Strymon Flint Tremelo & Reverb
Any ideas on the huge green one and the small one in the bottom corner?

The small one is a Zvex Mastotron, a variation on the mammoth fuzz they do. Excellent pedal the gate can make it seriously punchy and stuttery for a fuzz.

The LS-2 looks to be there to split the chain up and each has a pig and harmonist on, I don't know if any is used for octave down, since the tunings I've hard are drop C.

Well, on that particular way of assessing wattage of an amp, (e.g. a test by a magazine with no proof that it is 100% correct scientifically or whether indeed that is the best way to do it anyway) yes, you'd get more RMS rated wattage with the LM2/3.

What you would also get is a hard wall limiter, especially at 8 ohms, so when you hit that limiter, that is it. No power compression, just awful clipping. Also, the Markbass master volumes I've tried hit the max volume at roughly 12/1 o'clock. Lot's of manufacturers do this, to make you think you have more master left. With the LM3, I didn't have any more headroom left.

Genz do it differently....eg the volume goes up gradually and you can push and push the modern amps they finished with and they will not clip.

TC also do it differently. You can absolutely hammer the master volume all the way up and it will not clip...it will just get incredibly loud, and like a tube amp, it will naturally 'sag' and compress like playing through a large 8x10/SVT at high volumes.

Different design goals, different tones. Wattage? Volume? The RH450 sounds louder to me.

It's obvious to see you do really rate them, so I think it's best that those who disagree, agree to do that, disagree.

out of interest... what's the amp at the end?
Nothing right now, been using a Genz shuttle 6.0 before and a Markbass LMtube before that. So pretty transparent and responsive to changes.
I'm looking at a shuttle 9.0 since I like those anyway, but fancy a change so the GK MB800 with its lights is tickling me a bit but I'm always dubious of not having tubes in the oreamps. But it sounds pretty neutral and open regardless.

The Puma and Aguilar up for sale at the moment are both VERY tempting
True, Aguilar for me I know I'll hate the treble roll off, and the puma, it's quoted 600watt at 8 ohm is tempting, plus it's tiny, but anything with a knob like 'taste' puts me right off.

you like preamps... go for a pre/power setup?
Lol, I'm waiting on a refund for the power amp I did buy. Which was going to be fed with the preamp pedal I'm having from COG. But something that big means an extra a bag and for a non driver slipping 500watts plus into my gig bag is a god send.

The shuttle 9.2 is on my radar as it's first cheap new. But just sold the 6.0 so would want something different I think. The headphone out on the shuttles is crap.

Yep... you can complicate the chain so I think one has to be the master.

And the other needs to be the backup. So onboard pre's are ok...for that
on hand quick adjustment, and the back end should be set at the start of the show and that is
    it.
As for all-singing, all-dancing little boxes, then that is a huge no for me. Too much fighting
of the natural tone you have is asking for trouble and generally will sound like it.

If you consider how much effort can be spent on getting a sound in the first place -and these pages are full of
that...and then you want to introduce so many more variables?
It's funny, so many people say they play flat..and then you look at their signal chain..???
My amp is flat at recording, intake a pre amp EQ at gigs to the desk and everywhere else when relying on my amp and cab I change the EQ to either cut or boost the bass to help with room acoustics etc.

So I play 'flat' but the chain at the end represents next to not a lot from the signal source, although in the chain is a clean blend that makes it through.

  8. My guess is they usually don't her that much low end on the bass for whatever reason, and reacted in a typical fashion. What did the guitarist say?

Been in bands where the singer for whatever reason stood right in the line of my 8x10 stack and regardless of volume complained it was all her could hear.
People are dicks about stuff, but try and get a more balanced view on it before you disregard their comments.

  9. I can't say I've had that kind of trouble from music shops but since they a thin on the ground here I've almost always brought online.

HotRox in Nottingham I by far the best I've ever been. Actual instument stock is poop but everything else they are excellent, they know what they are on with and never had trouble with them in regards to trying stuff out. Even had special stock brought in for me and they rang me back to say its in.

  10. Heavy heart with this. After many years I finally got my hands on one but I need a new amp and this is only getting used for private recording.

No box, or manual but I have some images of the manual to email out. I have a spare kettle lead I'll send it out with.

Not great condition and the limiter is broke but the rest works as it should.
