1.
That's a nice colour! How's it sound and play?
A lot better than others I have had, a lot better than the '96 deluxe I had a while a go, the 60s pickup position while only small difference makes it a lot new comfortable to. It sounds as jazz should, does all the sounds very well, a passive beast with alnico pups sounds great, currently have the neck pickup just off bridge on full and the tone roles off some. With my effects o get some great Rage tones.
Very nice colour dude! Is it a mex or USA? Did my old baby stay within the Basschat fold? Hope you enjoy it!
Yeah colour is pretty cool, its either aqua flake or ocean turquoise metallic. Yeah it did, user 'dandelion' brought it and is uber pleased with it, it saw loads of action with me. Sad to lose it and already watching another basic on eBay haha. It's a USA jazz, I had some specific requirements when looking and being of US or Jap origin was on of them.
Mexican by the truss rod access? Great colour!
It's Us jazz my friend, its a bit of an older one, before the 2000s. Not sure on exact model but I have feeling its a 60's reissue.
 2. Guitarist in my band continuosly seme jokes I should play guitar instead of bass, my reply is always something like "just because I can play both doesnt mean you can play bass as well as you pay guitar, and you're sh*t at that.' Spent an hour arguing with a singer who doesnt play an instrument about how I was still in key when I played a G in an Em chord(same as above) no matter how much I explained and showed him how it was right, he always came back and said a G is not an Em. It ended with me shouting the guy saying 'I don't tell you how to sing so don't tell me how to play bass.'
 3.
A very nice look acquisition, Prime
Yeah, ticked all the boxes and spent less than what I wanted, wasn't keen on the colour but in the flesh looks great.
 4. Depends how you are using it. You say its going to the return on the amp, so you are either bypassing the preamp on the amp or using the parallel out to have some kind of uneffected clean blend aswell?
 5. Making sacrifices for tjhe bandand for the girlfriend since we decided we are moving in together. I wasn't overly happy as I've lost a fantastic bass that I really got on with. I never really 'got' jazz basses, and promptly sold on the few I've had too. Having never really had a go on 60s spacing jazz, I was eager to see how they sounded. Luckily there was a local guy selling one pretty cheap. I went, I tried, I brought it. Surprisingly happy with a a passive single coil after using active humbuckers for ages. Happy for now at least. 6. Recently aquired an as-New+used bass for what I consider a bargain. And its the first I've brought in over 2 years. I haven't paid more the 500 notes for a bass in about 4 years now. I still lust for expensive stuff but I can't afford them, and would rather have a bargain that does what I want than something I'm afraid to use. There is also a point when price starts exceeding how good a bass can be, and questionably how good can a bass get. If the wood is solid, the electronics are working and its comfortable and sounds how you want everything else is peacock feathers. For me that price is £500
 7.
I've owned 3 USA Fenders, two German Warwicks, a Status S2 and numerous other decent quality (and reasonably expensive) basses. Admittedly, these are not top top dollar basses but for most of us I guess we would describe them as high quality, relatively expensive instruments. Anyway, After much chopping and changing and actually listening with my ears rather than with my eyes I have ended up with a main bass (an old Aria Pro II) , which cost me £70 (and I use "as is", unmodded) and a backup (Yamaha RBX270) costing £223 (brand new). Tonally, these instruments are every bit as good as all the more expensive basses I have played and owned. they also both play beautifully, with punch on every string, no dead spots etc. THey don't look "cool" to other musos and they have the "wrong" names on the headstock but I care not. I have found that putting my money into quality amps, cabs and pedals gets me far nearer my tonal objectives than putting it into basses. So, simply an encourangement to all to hunt around and play a lot of cheaper basses, as there are some absolute bargains out there which sound and play stunningly. And yes, I also mean some of the mass-produced Indonesian/Korean basses out there too. Warning ...... there are also many absolutely awful cheap basses out there too. Anyone else found the same ?
this week......................................
 8.
BTW I am not writing in continuous lines for a reason, my post wont let me start a new line or paragraph for some reason!!
In the new IE the page has to be in compatiblilty view. I had a problem to when running Windows 8 in desktop mode. As far as I am aware there should be a turn page icon in the left of the address bar, if its in blue then typing should be fine, if not give it a click and it'll turn blue ( or of course visa versa) If not google how to change it( I'm sure that's how it works though) OT thouggh. As a band we have a proffessional attitude. Sound checks are quick, setup is quick and tidy and we always leave gear bags and gear in a safe room at the venue.
 9. Replied mate, sorry about that. I am work see. eBay can get stuffed if BC user wants it. You have a PM. Provisionally sold
 10. Now eBay link in first post
 11.
I had the same chat Cant wait till August!
Haha, I thought I was privileged for a moment. I remember sharing emails with Alex regarding this new New cab that was expected to be a bit chunkier and use ferrite.
 12. I was asked to learn 15 songs for an audition, that was ok as they were apparantly into what I was after playing (mainly RATM) I got the list and most of it is never even heard of, so I messaged them saying, there was no chance I was learning 15 songs for an audition. Done.
 13. Alex emailed me yesterday asking if I can wait for something more special coming in August. So I said I can wait. How far away is August?
 14. Will be open to trades on amps/ effects
 15. Cheers for the links. I use d'addarios anyway but to get 40lbs tensions for a low Eb the 120 gauge is a nut eater.
 16. I had birds eye maple necked '94 sterling and it was the softest I ever had played. Along with the sound sounding wooly and not quiet the same bounce as a new neck, it would change ever so easy to tempreture and any knocks it was put under. It felt great though but the sound was just pants, there was a real difference between that bass and any other I had and have had since. Also doing pitch bends by pulling on the neck was always risky haha. I found it strange as maple necks and fingerboards are supposed to be quiet bright due to being 'stiff'.
 17.
That's all very well as long as you are sticking to D'Addarios of a particular kind - perhaops that's what you mean. But the tensions won't apply to Fender or other strings even if they are the same gauge.
Is there a way of getting the numbers of other makes? Do others even publish the numbers?
 18. Bump
 19.
I'm considering adding the J-Retro01 I have in my drawer to my new Jazz.
And the draw with the best tone goes too.
 20. I think once the new strings are on if I still feel its too high ill give the micro tilt ago, as I can always set it back if it does wobble, which is bad if it is even a little. To my eye the neck is straight, and the truss rod relief is set so my '12' just slides under the low E. Not got anything to compare how inset the neck is, but on most of my other basses setting the saddles to their lowest makes the strings essentially rest against the f'board. With this the two outermst strings have more than 3mm clearance and the innermost have around 2mm clearance. In my mind its either high or really high. I don't think there would be a problem at all if the finger board didn't have such a convex-ed f'board.
 21. Had me in a fit of giggles
 22.
The amount of micro-tilt adjustment was so extreme that it seemed the whole neck was 'balancing' on the one point. Any sort of aggressive playing would make the neck move in the pocket, in both vertical and horizontal planes
Well in that case I may not bother with it. Ive done the best I can with it. My only other thought would be a bridge change. Ages ago I had a badass on a fender and it made getting the action low a bit troublesome, maybe cuase it's baseplate is so thick?
 23.
My local luthier detests the micro-tilt operation. Given the chance he will add a shim rather than use The micro-tilt. I must admit that I saw a '76 recently with a neck that wobbled all over the show. The luthier took the neck off. Set the micro so it wasn't working and shimmed the neck. Transformed the action and playability and the neck is really solid now.
Wobbled? How so?
 24.
I too would call 3mm low.
Personally I would too, but I have my bass setup with the low E at just under 3mm and the high G at 2.5mm, and I feel the action can across all strings. I trust neck relief will be the same once this micro tilt thing is changed
 25.
Not neccesarily - are you taking the owners playing technique into account? Also, I can't see how adjusting the micro tilt is going to solve the problem you mention - the strings will still be higher than the others if you adjust it. The only way you'll deal with it is to set the saddles to match the fingerboard radius.
I have set them now like this (following the radius), they each have just shy of 3mm gap at the last fret, with the high G not being able to get any lower( compensating for how much it vibrates compared to the lower and ticker strings. On my own bass I have the lowest at aroud 3mm clearance and then they get closer as the strings get higher, down to around 2mm clearance. So that is pretty much what I'm aiming for with this since I find mine a piece of piss to play. So now, compared to defo they are all too high. So from what I have googled(I will go through that fender link though) if the strings are still too high I can adjust te micro tilt?
