Genz Benz Streamliner 600 & Barefaced Super T
Prime_BASS replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Amps and Cabs
The S12's strong mids will probably benifit from the baxandall tone circuit on the Streamliner. Only tried the 900 with a compact and it sounded big and phat but not for me. -
I saw one cheap and wondered what all the fuss was about.
Now now girls. My worst bass was some epiphone violin thing. Really, really bad. Wouldn't intonate and sounds like Muk garggling fudgecakes made of tarmac. That being said the Epiphone JC Sig is really nice bass. I did have a sterling which ad everything that affected the noise broken in some way. Buggared pre, dead pickup and a neck which made butter seem stiff.

Wounded paw sounds like a drive I should have haha. Personally I blame the bass. Not owned at ATK but the local has a few, while built very and have the same punch and harmonic content is expect from a bass with a pickup in the sweet spot, the sound was ever so dead and lack luster. Also I feel that musicman and similar basses when driven with an OD can seem thin as there isn't a lot of inherent low end, just loads midrange.
Hmmm ... sounds like one I'll need to audition in person. Thanks
It is a nice pedal, I'm just over critical of stuff these days. Goes great with the BB preamp rolling low gain drive into great breakup. Imo better than the tube marker as there are more controls, but I want to try the 7 band eq distortion. I wish they'd offer more mini pedals like an octave.
How are you finding that Markbass distortion ?
Excellent for its size, the controls are a bit counter intuitive. One increases 800hz up to 20db and the other is some kind of weird passive tone. A little weird to control. Not too good at low gain settings. Sounds like the BB preamp but in darker tones wont sound like a muff like the bb. I wanted another bb or similar but tHis sounds tHe same at high gain, and is smaller and only cost me 70 quid new.

Messing around with this setup, maybe a few more additions to be made, but finally got a nice drive under a clean blend I like.

Tom is currently designing my new ultimate looper with cleanblends on blendable channels and phase ing and master volume and volumes for each part of the sounds it can push out. mad!
-
BB is very good. im not familiar with the wounded paw but I think any drive with a decent on board EQ should be useful for any bass. Although now I am clean blending both my drives.
i thought my GAS was done....
lol jokes, GAS is never done.
Do it. You won't be disappointed I'm thinking about going for a clean and dirty blend. Yeah.
Just experiment with all your possibilities, and see which yu like the sound of the best.
Several of us played it that day. I only played it at low volume but it sounded very good. Very light and compact but when Alex took the cab out to the other room we plugged in to the Big Baby. I have to say that at that volume I preferred the BB. I'd still like to hear one of the new cabs (or preferably 2) a gig volumes before I came to a final opinion. Edit - of course these comments might not be applicable now. The BF 112 cab you are using could have had several redesigns since the bass bash.
I remember emailing with Alex about these well over a year ago now. I wanted one then.

Blues, Rock, Jazz, Folk? what is this?
Prime_BASS replied to Prime_BASS's topic in General Discussion
Will take a look at vids when I het chance. But for the mean time I have accepted a 'audition' for a band that describes itself as in the OP. Singer is female and the drummer and her have had experience with another band, but not sure what is quiet happening there. But void be promising. -
At one point I was in 2 that both rehearsed once a week, then ended up gigging at least once a week too. On top of working full time on early mornings, it became too much. So I'm in one band, and at some points of the year its plenty, others its as inactive as a dead battery. Currently looking for another project though now.

My beloved Sandberg basic is up, only for sale while there is a bass I really really want is for sale. Open to offers close to asking price and will post for extra costs, but prefer collection from nottingham. Great player and served me well, sad to see it go and would keep it if I had the funds to buy this other bass outright. Setup with medium-low action, with d'ardario balanced tension set, has plenty of punch, the glocckenclang preamp is powerful, as you can imagine sound wise with a bog humbucker in he sweet spot it sounds like a stingray. But will still burp like a jazz and thump like a P if wanted. Condition: body is in pretty decent condition but has been used, the neck has suffered a fair few scratches but nothing drastic that effects playing.

Blues, Rock, Jazz, Folk? what is this?
Prime_BASS replied to Prime_BASS's topic in General Discussion
I cant see what the problem is. If you get a reply from an unsuitable band, simply reply by saying something like...."thanks, but not the type of music I am looking for". Takes all of ten seconds to type.
That's not my problem at all, if anything I'm flattered. My problem is what is a Blues, rock, jazz, folk band. As all of what info I've been provided with is of indie bands IMO of course. -
Don't like the pickup spacing at all on 75s . Infact I've hated the pickups on every Jazz I've tried.
-
One of my favourite players is Doug johns and I really dig is punchy clanky sound so wanted to mimic that on my basic. So I can tell you that a low setup will help, along with raising the pickup. I don't use light strings, I'm using balanced set of 105 80 60 45 and don't find it hard to get punch and dig in.
-
If you are using a jazz. Give more balance towards one pickup(experiment to see what sound you prefer) Lower your action and raise your pickups and pick or finger right over the pickup. Lower tension strings might help. And a stingray!!

I currently have two ads floating about in various forms and it is quiet obvious that I'm no where near any of the aforementioned genres. Only I have had several (interesting) for acts described as above. so whats this about? All links I have been given are of indie bands.
