In answer to the preamp needed to sound like a MM. No. I have a Sandberg basic and it sounds like a Stingray. (not exact, but very a like) and that has the pickup placement but has passive mode and a glockenklang preamp. The pickup placement gives the very flat response, full of harmonics, making the strings sound tight and full of bounce and punch. The preamp on a stingray gives rays their typical 'open' airy top end, bright but not shrill. Due to the treble pot being high at about 7khz. Tim Commerford fooled me in thinking he was using a Stingray for songs like People of the sun, I think it's a jazz on the recording (could be wrong) but he utilises a preamp with it too.

Just been browsing Jazzers on eBay and came across these two early 2000's. Both quoting 'Active pickups' as both are form shops in the states and have no idea what they are talking about. I'm only interested as the pickups look strange. They have single pole pieces like John Suhr's back on the mid 90's American deluxe jazz. And as far as I know the MIM never came with different pickups as standard, and I know of no after market john suhr copies. here are the links: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FENDER-DELUXE-ACTIVE-JAZZ-BASS-2002-Deluxe-Series-/181032450291?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D4457959476339122724%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D4%26sd%3D190531247490%26 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Deluxe-Series-Jazz-Bass-with-Active-Pickups-WOW-L-K-/130823361489?pt=Guitar&hash=item1e75ae13d1
How come you found your Fulltone to be better on the lows? As in the sound or the presence of Bass? I mean the BB has the potential to have a ridiculously large amount of low end!
I haven't played with the BB tone too much due to lack of time, but will certainly investigate and at the minute the lows are getting rolled back due to my strings being really old. The fulltone was just fuller on the lows overall, the highs still gritted up nice but they where softer on the lows, more like a low gain fuzz on the lows with high gain OD over the highs, so it filled the low end in the mix better. The BB I still prefer though due to it's overall sound as it's more gnarly in the mid range, and the 2 EQ tone controls are more useful, although the knobs are ridiculous to see in the dark.
Work on the assumption the cabs aren't giving you anything below about 45hz, so pulling down the lows will give you a tone more headroom.
This, plus I would trry stacking the 2x10 vertically ontop of the 1x15. See if the sound clears up.

I traded my fulltone bass drive (non-mosfet) for a BB bass pre-amp too. they sound really similar although the bass and trble controls i much prefer than tone on the fulltone. the BB preamp has better top in my opinion but the fulltone is better on the lows, although I had the non-mosfet version which again IMO is a lot less whooly.

the nova dynamics is a great bit kit. I would also suggest the T-rex Squeezer and Markbass Compressore. Both are pretty similar, although the T-rex has a smaller foot print, although both run on a silly voltage (12 I think), but have the required controls and are very clear and transparent unless you start using proper squash..

brought this sometime ago, would like to keep but I just don't have the time/space/requirements for it so needs must. No pictures right now as it's at home at my parents. But trust me when I say it is absolutely brand spanking new, I've only 'stomped' on it a hand full of times, and it's never been outside the house. Great on bass with a 3 band EQ and selectable mid frequency, did the job of making me sound like Takeshi Ueda during the beginning of Crack. Bank transfer is preferred £55 posted no trades unless it's for an interesting bass distortion/drive GEB-7 brought again a while ago but I have no need for an EQ pedal any more. Pretty used, all the sliders work as it should only 3 of the are a little bent from being sat upside down for oo long other than that it has some velco attached to the underside. £35 posted Bank transfer preffered again please. And again not really looking to trade. Thanks Stephen

I think in the 60's position, the bridge pickup up is in a similar position to the bottom coil on an MM stingray.

the natural response of both the para-driver and the bass-driver is mid scooped, quiet a bit. To counter this on the bass-driver is to blend in the clean, but personally it's never the same as actually adding mids. The para-driver has a stand alone mid cut/boost and frequency select so it's easier to add mids in, plus it's more usuable for other instruments, inherently they are pretty much the same, but I would try a bass-driver before you count it out. I just prefer the para-driver but I ended up moving it on as it wasn't for me.

Anybody had experience mixing Markbass heads with Hartke Cabs?
Prime_BASS replied to charliethornton's topic in Amps and Cabs
The bassist from Maximum to the Hormone uses a SD1200 with a hydrive 4x10 I think (from videos I've seen) -
Portable cab to go nicely with a MarkBass Little Mark Tube...?
Prime_BASS replied to charliethornton's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'd recommend any of the barefaced line. The MB traveller 210 p is a very nice can but I couldn't get on with the rear ports outside of big open stages. MB heads seem to go very well with sealed cabs, I use mine with either an Ampeg 806HE or the SVT210AV's. -

Are Stingrays the new Warwicks, price wise?
Prime_BASS replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Bass Guitars
[sub]It's not so bad when it reads 'Stingray' on the headstock, but when you have 'Sterling' no one knows it's a pucka EBMM.[/sub] -
TC Electronic Polytune Mini - doesn't work on bass!?
Prime_BASS replied to TRBboy's topic in General Discussion
my mini does get some weird noises but nothing drastic or that's too loud. -
This is for trade only and as a feeler, as I absolutely love this bass, and if I could afford to I would keep it no doubt but the nagging gas I have needs to be released. So up we have my Sandberg basic in natural, with a single 'MM' style pickup in the sweetspot. It has one or two or three little bumps here and there as it has been used a hell of a lot by me(it has a wear mark near the pick where my thumb rubs) but it's not been treated badly and anything that shouldn't be there you still have to look very close to see it. Hardware is in great shape, only thing 'wrong' is a screw missing from the truss rod cap on the headstock. It is setup as low as it'll allow at the bridge, but I'm sure it'll go lower with a tweak of the truss rod(I don't have the right size allen key) but it is fine as it is, really quiet low but still enough space to dig in hard. It sounds exactly how you would think (like a stingray) only a little bit cleaner and an attack that reminds me of a Warwick Corvette $$. The circuitry is very clean and transparent and you can easily coax burping jazz or thumpy P-bass sounds out of it, if you wanted too of course. The build quality is exceptional for this price point of bass, better than I'd dare say EBMM. Everything is very tight and even though I got it secondhand I couldn't fault anything. Here is it in action: Headphones required! please ignore my dodgy playing. Will trade for: Warwick Thumb 4 (BO or NT) plus a little cash. EBMM Sterling 4/5. Modulus Funk Unlimited/Flea Bass 4. Will add £200 for the right thumb and upto £400 for the right Modulus. Are Stingrays the new Warwicks, price wise?
Prime_BASS replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Bass Guitars
I just find on a lot of basses with maple necks the E-string gets less and less dynamic and pronounced after the 5 fret and the 7 on the A and he 12 on the D. The Sandberg I have now is a lot better than both birdseye maple necked(also one piece) EBMMs, the Big Al I had was a lot better than all, and the SUB I had before that had a much fewer dead spots than the higher priced models I've had. very hit or miss. The Sandberg still has much better pronunciation across the frequencies though. BUT ANYWAY! The price! Even some Modulus basses haven't sold or have sold for much less than people seem to believe, but that is only some. They are in demand and fairly rare to come by secondhand, so you'd expect the right price tag regardless of bass or sale. That's where the right buyer situation comes into it. I'd buy one easy for the right price, but some one else? the price may not matter. -
Look up chicken picks, silly thickness. Claim some mumbo jumbo but still thicker than most other brands.
