MATE!!! As far as I understand it the LMtube series solid state side is the same front end as the standard littlemarks. it just has the added tube and a mix n knob to mix between the two. It's not 'tubet tone' at all, it just a total mix knob, from 100% SS to 100% Tube front end. it doesn't try to sound like an all tube amp, it sounds like a very good high end tube preamp, it won't get dirty though, but the extra harmonics you'll get from the tube make the extra cost worth it. in regards to 800watt to 500watt, all you get is a little extra headroom, and personally the difference is minimal. If you are maxing a LMTube 500 with a single compact then you are deaf and are playing too loud. I've used that setup many times in humungo halls with no PA support and still got compliants at the back of the room that the bass was too loud, and the LMtube was barely stretching it's legs. the two preamps do sound extremely similar, the only real sound difference is in the extra harmonic distortion you get from tubes anyway. It just helps bring out every note even clearer and sound cleaner.

New Amp Day - Ampeg PF500 out, Little Mark Tube in.

The LMT is an amazing amp. I'm on my second cause for somwe reason I sold the first! Although the tube inside is a 'mini' tube, it still adds a surprising amouynt of extra harmonic detail and just sound a whole tuone better than any on-board solid state preamp I've heard. -
Good! I was looking at pictures of it yesterday, and feeling a bit sad
IT's so good, my only bass right now and I don't need anything else. Does all the things my old Ray and Warwick did without either's negative drawbacks. The only real drawback I find is that I play it so much that I need to change the strings too often! I was never keen on the 2+2 headstock but I really don't mind it anymore, looks a bit metal but it just means I can look good in a metal band......... Really want to get a costum basic done with an all maple neck, make it look liek my old Sterling.

I'm still in love with my Sandberg basic.

the downside to buying a 'good' bass....
Depends what other basses you have to choose from, I guess.. Besides, there are some gigs where an Alembic or Ken Smith might look...... Out of sorts. (Not that I have either!)
If you have said bass you probably not doing punk rock shows. -
Play it. Enjoy it. Gig it.
This, I don't get the whole thing about needinga cheap beater, unless you really don't take of your instrument.... -
Love the sound of the front pickup on the tumbs!

A bass is worth what you are willing to pay for it. Someone may be willing to pay more or pay less for the same bass. People are picky buggars and some sellers stress when stuff doesn't shift ASAP. I paid £600 for my Sandberg which is a steal! And a few weeks later a similar one didn't sell on eBay with a start bid of £450! The market is ridiculous right now. People get under cut by people who don't care if they loose quiet a bit of money, and other reduce to the point where it's depressing for owners of similar basses.

different compressors will add/substract different qualities. I use a tube compressor as the tube still adds the harmionic distortion that you get from preamp tubes. The sound girl we have been having recently has loved me for having a good even bass sound, all thanks to the compressor, and because of this she sends my sound through with minimal EQ change, which is what I like. I also told her about my SFX thumpinator and how it'll help her desk and PA subs be more efficient, she likes this also. She usually has retards turn up with a horribly setup bass tuned C# that have the worlds worst technique, so you can imagine the sonic abuse the desk gets. There are a crap tonne of compressors out there you just need to find the best one for you. I hate signal or two knob compressors as I need to control over attak and release and threshold. The best compressors out there are (IMO) Trex squeezer the markbass compressore and the TC nova dynamics thing.

Lots or early RATM was done with a Stingray, and some very early blink-182 was done on a stingray too. I always thought Duran Duran - Rio was done on a stingray. Although I use Sandberg Basic now it's still got that basic Musicman sound, harmonically rich, enough bottom to provide thump and enough highs to cut through. Excellent instrument and one that will stay with me for a while. I've had a fair share of EBMM basses and loved them all, but the neck on the sandberg is too good.

No point pumping an 'extra' '300watts' into 2 1x12 cabs. They will only ever go so loud, all you are doing is increasing the amount of headroom, but alas!1 The Markbass power module for the 800watt units is actually pretty poor, 800 watt @ 4 ohm gives you a peak of about 600-650 and a continuious of about 600watt if that! Continuious power is what we should be interested in. The 500 watt units deliver a better continuious power, being just shy of 500, so personally I'd save even more dosh and stick with a 500 watter, the audible loudness through the same speakers will be negligable. The extra power is only important if you want to get purely massive deep bottom at reasonable volumes, but the cab has to be able to produce those frequencies too so unless you haver a barefaced big twin there is no point. Tube or not. The tube in the LMTubes is a small one but it does add the harmonic distortion you get from preamp tubes, and it sounds pretty good as a stand alone preamp. I prefer the tube over the Solid state, also on the LMTubes you can mix between solid state or tube, so you at least have a choice.

I fit on my nano - Tuner, Fulltone Bassdrive (massive pedal) a Compressor and the sfx thumpinator. I use a diago powerstation which is fastened to the underside. My cables are George L's http://www.hotroxuk.com/guitar-accessories-links-847-0/guitar-cable-links-6145-0/george-l-cables-and-plugs-10001-0.html The right angle jacks are the best, really small and means you can squeeze those pedals on, and they don't protrude out of the top either, getting knocks and bangs. Easy too assemble aswell.
