Basses, prices and a global recession...
Prime_BASS replied to LukeFRC's topic in General Discussion
yup wouldnt blame the shop - my local shop here ordered me a 2U rack case for my head - took 4 months because of the supplier
I waited about the same for some DR's from bass direct as the supplier kept telling Mark next week, which is all he could have told me. I eventually emailed them directly and they washed their hands of supplier issues.... I buy most of my stuff secondhand, having only really brought my barefaced cabs new. I'm bidding on 2 sterlings at the moment both with a reserve that will no doubt be only a 100quids less than the BIN price, which for both is too high, for £800 I could get 2 brilliant secondhand basses of a similar quality. I paid £550 for my sterling, and I realise this is dirt cheap (even for the time) but I don't recall a Sterling selling secondhand for more than £750. I think some sellers need to wake up, people who really do want to sell or really do need the cash put the low prices on then you have to take into account if people really want something. There is a Corvette $$ on here atm for £400!!!! The retail is something like 3 times that. -
If I had that kind of cash going spare I may take a punt on the new Epiphone thunderbirds with US pickups, that's if I didn't already know how terribly balanced they are.

Really want to get my hands on one these early FNA's but 4 string of course.........

Seriously thinking of buying a head weighing 77lbs....
Cheap out option for more volume same tone is a dummy load and running the DI out into a power amp. But yeah, the BTA is the one for ABM options on a valve power section. There is one in the line with the simple preamp an valve power though.
I would do this. You can get a decent power amp for a few hundred quids and then have 'all valve' with a crap tone of power for very little weight gain. Other option is that little bastard 550 thing......... -
I've worked on mods for a friends, and after changing the pickup (MM one) and adding a preamp it was a very decent bass. PErsonally the pickguard is horrible, so if I had one that would go. I also wasn't impressed with the finish in the neck, the frets were very sharp at the ends, and this bothers me the most with nay bass.

Jazz v. Precision Bass- question from [relative] newbie
Prime_BASS replied to barnettiuk's topic in Bass Guitars
Personally my preference (if I had to choose) is the Jazz. It will safely do the precision sound, and any minute differences will be lost in any mix. My favourite bassist use's a P bass but he EQ's so much and uses so many effects it probably doesn't matter what he uses. I'll stick to my Musicman basses..... -
Fender Precision with Musicman Pickup Modification
Prime_BASS replied to Davy's topic in Bass Guitars
What about the Fender American DLX Precisions?
A fender bucker is not replacement for a Mussicman man(or good replacement) in the right position.... Even Wariwick's MEC in the postions they come in don't come close. -
Basses owned ( is one you want amongst these? )

I've used Shep's stageclix(IIRC) and it's amazing. Sounds how you expect it to sound, very quite and solid build. He'll be able to tell you more than me though.

Don't bother trying to improve, just make more friends instead

My originals band have been offered a small tour due to the fact over the past few gigs for this one promoter we have brought quiet a few mates..... I even told him, unless the venue is down the road, it's going to be empty. -
I'm still having trouble in getting the mobile site to work on my blackberry torch. The phone seems to refuse to see it mobile format and its a bitch to use the site in the standard format. I tried disabling fladh or some gibberish as suggested somehwere, and it just made the site unusable. What can I do??

This was really good, you don't see many people posting stuff on youtube that rock the crap out of pick playing. I will suggest though turning everything else down so it's more focused on the bass sound, but thats just me.

I have the protec one, it's still in amazing condition considering it's been used and abused for the past 3 years, IT's been out the house at least twice a week most weeks. It gets chucked in the back of a grotty ford transit, where it gets stirred for 25 minutes to rehearsals, and another 25 minutes back. The bass always arrives safe and sound and still in tune, the front pockets or pretty huge, although I wouldn't want to put a laptop or anything liek that in there. I've only ever had trouble fitting a 22fret necked jazz bass in it, even still it's flexible enough to push it in. Another good thing is that the straps go pretty tight so it doesn't bump against my back while walking, I hate that so much. The best gig bag Ive had though is a warwick rockbag, amazingly light and very well padded, not as secure as the protec but still solid, the massive 'metal head' zips let it down though.

So, an actual pair of real living musical geniuses?
Prime_BASS replied to Truckstop's topic in General Discussion
I'd be in his band. I don't care for her voice much though. -
I'm going to chime in with a markbass vote. An LM3 with one of the small cabs they do, probably a 1x15 job for me. Although obviously I will say barfaced aswell.

Played a few other instruments before Bass, including the tiny 6 stringer. Just couldn't find the instrument for mem, that lets me speak my voice within music.

You'd be surprised that a lot of people (before the economic crisis) went on holiday for two weeks. Although eBay and paypal only give 10 days to reply to issues. Subsiquently a buyer got all his money back (putting my paypal into negative figure) and he wasn't onbliged to send it back. When I did get back off holiday, I was more than welcome to ask the buyer to send it back...................... He neve replied to emails, neither did eBay. Or paypal.

Yeah Ive seena few people advertise a few different markbass heads qouting 600w. Sent a few messages, even got told I was a liar and trying to cause trouble...........Even after a sent a link to markbass website proving I was right, and only tryuing to help.

Prime_BASS replied to Moos3h's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
In my opinion - I've not been able to A/B these as I last had a 'loan' BF Compact about 2 years ago, it's really fairly close when you consider the difference in price. Yes, a bit heavier but tonally in a similar ballpark - it's certainly a case of what you put in is largely what you get out. I've been very happy with these indeed.
Makes me want it more...........
