I will miss that 'growl' though! (Thats why you need to buy it so I can nip down the road and borrow it every so often! :-)).
Not even kidding when I say that I dreamt of busting some bit tunes out on it! I guess you are right though, for a someone like myself(still stuck in traditional land) a B makes more sense than a high C. Although if I end up with the 6 I could do more chord work and still do massive huge B(it) riffs. *drools on laptop* Can't wait to see/hear your new one though, the craftmanship is amazing on the century so much attention to detail, only matched by it's --sound.

G&L L2000 - changing electronics: now John East MMSR (Stingray) preamp
Prime_BASS replied to mcnach's topic in Bass Guitars
I say do it! Gut the switches aswell! so glad I did it to my Sterling. Now it's essentially a 'Ray in a sterling's body, as I chanmged the pickup to alnico aswell. It lost 0.1 of a pound aswell. -
I just saw on the blog it'll be strung E-C. After playing the 6'er with that big B! surely you'll miss that? I would have though tthe low B is more important than a high C??

Stupidly amazing cabs. I won't to add anopther compact but for what I'm doing in the future alex suggests the ultra clear big twin T will be better suited although two compacts will look and sound menacing! Also adding a midget is another idea i'd like to try. Especially a tweetered version.

Cutting through the mix - I believe I have found the problem
Prime_BASS replied to WalMan's topic in General Discussion
Did comment of the settings, particularly the bass as potentially "invading my space" butr apparently set other than this and it squeals.
Source of all the bass problems!! It's squealing because your guitarist is a douche. Gain setting and his guitar are causing the squeals not the amps EQ. This setting may be ok for him at rehearsals but with the added boundry effects on stages etc it's multiplying this bottom end by at least 6db!! the only thing i can suggest is do as much learning as possible. for instance http://barefacedbass.com/bgm-columns.htm helped me a lot, not just EQ and set up the bass rig, but it a lot is true for guitars and guitar amps too. At rehearsals I cut the bass and treble on both guitar amps, and boost the mids, then set the gain and master. The bass amp should be the loudest thing in there (except the vocals) not that it should over shadow everything by any means, but it should naturally be louder to hear the actual lows. Even so at rehearsals I cut the bass (on the LMTUBE this is set at 40hz) and boost the low mids, still sounds low and loud but not undefined wooly mess. This works for me in that room, but it may vastly be different where you play. You have a super awesome cab and amp, and for me the settings you describe are very useable (the streamliner has a lot of bottom) A lot of getting the sound right is about compromise, if they say you have too much bass you have to do your best to accomodate, but from where things are now you need to seriously talk about this sound issue. Sound guys are putting high pass on so evidently they don't need all that bottom, they just don't see it.
Those guitar setting are a "bedroom sound".
THIS!!! -
Been currently doing the rounds with song 2 as a cover. I hate doing it, we don't even play it right. However we too regularly hear it's better than blur. Then again, it's not hard. I like a few of the recordings they have done, but live always crap.
Gigged my terror bass and compact last night. Could you hear me? Cheers Geoff
Such a great 'rock' bass rig. For my uses the DI was just too loud and noisy.

I think this has been missed. Genz Benz streamliner. 600 watt will do you nicely. While personally the single mid control I found limiting, it should do what you want it do. the knob can be set at 600hz which will suit you (if thats really what you want) The inherent 'flat' sound(knobs at 12) is very phat sounding, it features a similar tone stack as found on the OTB Fender bassman heads. Although (IIRC) it's active to a lot stronger when boosting. The lows a little boosted around the 80-100hz area, very punching, and the highs are boosted (in the 12 o clcok position) Also the input stage is the traditional, as in it doesn't clip. the cliping light comes on when you are clipping the power stage. Because of this you get the lovely inbetween tones of clean and dirty. It will do very clean (not quiet hi-fi) and extremely dirty. It's also massively loud. In fact I sold my 900w to Shep. http://www.sheponbass.co.uk/amplification/ Only because I really like my LMtube, and I don't need two amps. If I needed a new amp i would definitly look at getting one of these.

http://barefacedbass.com/product-range/compact.htm The best cab for this head IMO. The one thing that lets it down is the DI. The SP cabs are not worth the money. The compact hugely out performs them, and sounds better with much much clearer mids. Louder (I think lighter) and cheaper. I have tried the SVT-7 pro, but not through a good cab. I think all round in terms of features the ampeg is a better piece of kit, the better DI alone decides it for me. In terms of sound, both have hugely useable sounds, and do the same thing, although the Ampeg will do a lot more as the controls arn't limited.
So, is my dream of a Fender Precision still alive? Can one be had for under 9lbs at a reasonable price?
I had a secondhand 2003 USA P bass. One with the S1 switch. Excellent playing bass, and it weighed 8.5lbs. Less than my Sterlng bass, which after mod's now weighs 8.6lbs. Any issues like neck dive were non existant as I use a quality strap. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Comfort_Strapps.html I find it's not so much the width of a strap (although that spreads weight out a bit) the material helps prevent neck dive. I used to use those clip lock things that were made off seat belts, a nice strap but no support and everything would dive due to it's slippy texture.

Agreed, the rack kit for the streamliner is one piece of grade A crap. It's effectively a shelf for the amp and looks hideous. Anyway. A lot of getting the right ampage for needs is compromise. You'll be hard to find sometyhing that less than 9lbs and chucks out lets say 500w a side(for serious loudness) The MB1000 (markbass) is 300w at 8 ohm a side and will drive the cabs very hard. Is uinder 9lbs aswell.

Fender Mustang would be for me, if I was buying blind. As all the ones I've played to this point have felt very similar, with an exception of one with a twisted neck. Also the lower wieght of the mustang is a list on the Pros While it doesn't inherently sound like wooly vintage, you can eq and use the tone knob to achieve this. Where as the Gibby is hardy to make sound different and still sound good. Also the SG basses I've tried while smaller bodied still wiegh more than they should.

The standard prices are very achievable, even for me.! Im tempted!
Hopefully going to get some progress shots on the body shaping for this beauty very soon! Seriously excited about this now. Still looking to re-house the Fretless... I'm going to miss that bass :-(
That fretless is amazing though. Tried to find the Roscoe you mentioned with MM pup but no luck. I know how you feel (to a degree) I gave up a much loved Stingray (That I'm working on getting back though) becuase of the weight issue and all the stuff gone into the sterling was to get it to sound closer to the Stingray I had. Hunched over all the time at work gives me some terrible back pain till one point I had to ring paramedics as it felt liked I locked some vertebra. Very scary. Even carrying 0.5 of a pound round my neck makes all the difference.

Finally getting my bass built! By our very own Ou7shined!
Prime_BASS replied to woodyratm's topic in Build Diaries
You should totally give Rich a shout. Seriously. Rich - You really need to get a website
Indeed, seriously contemplating getting something custom done now! -
That being the case, it probably wouldn't cause too many problems if the OP were to tweak the aesthetics with a replacement scratchplate plus metal control plate... (personally I'd leave it alone)
Me too. I don't really like the chrome plates on a jazz. This isn't pimp my ride.

Luckily in Nottingham there is a great place. http://www.themazerocks.com/ They do a night every month or so where local bands get the chance to gig without the need for an EP. I've seen some absolute crap on these nights and some absolute gems 'Valley of Poets' .My band have done is so much we eventually got the attention of a promoter who has hooked us up a few times with decent gigs. The last one we did for them, we brought so many people they gave us a support slot for a 'big' band doing a tour. It's really hard to get good gigs without an EP of somekind, we put it off because we are perfectionists and the EP we have doesn't do us justice. That coupled with the fact we arn't some indie scum bags. If you can get the poeple in the door to see you even in the smallest of places, people will notice, but you have to do (ALOT) of ground work. We do every gig we can get. An EP will help though, sending it everywhere.

Please beware TC power ratings...I didn't...
Prime_BASS replied to basstech's topic in Amps and Cabs
I always thought that mine sounded 'loud enough' but to my ears 'something' wasn't quite right. Maybe this explains it?
Indeed, I had the RH750. My band members all wondered why I went 'down' to 500 watts again with the LMTube. I always used with the compressor completely off and was never satisfied that it was off off. Like traction control in some cars. You can never really turn it off. -

I'm building an effective board as we speak. for an experimental thing I'm doing but still want a traditional bass sound so I won't need lots of signal distroyers. In my band I have a compressor and thats it. I don't think I'd want to gig without it TBH as it helps keep an even level in sound. I dig a lot, more than most bass players think necerssary, and as such I get fatigued and the com, pressor helps even out when I hit a string too soft or too hard. It's just essential.

Above is wanted for an experimental drum and bass outfit. Bassist is myself, with heavy influence from Rage Against the Machine, Mad Capsule Markets, Public Enemy. age 22 Drummer is my current originals drummer a very talented kid who is shares the same influences as me including a lot of dub-step. age 16 We need/want a MC/lyricist/vocalist who is commited to the act/group and is able to apply themselves to the music. We are still very much in the building stages and arn't looking for gigs right now but I have contact wityh similar acts that will be happy to give us support slots at local venues. We want to achiece a very simple heavy but effective form of Public Enemy, Tiny Tempah. email "] or PM me here. Emotion, money and time will be spent building and experimenting the sound. Ultimate goal is to gig with a fairly big following.
