1. Took a trip to Shep's rehearsal space today so he could try out my GenzBenz streamliner 900. Safe to say he is an absolute gent and threw in a tea with the last teabag! His roscoe is an absolute stunner, inbetween looking at it and his ginormous pedal board! Would definitly buy/trade/sell with again.
2. Ive had this a while now so the 'hype' factor has now gone and I've had to live with it. I've also owned 2!!! FEATURES: 8/10 I feel this is realistic: The one I have now is a newer one and has 2 speakons on the back for diasy chaining it with other cabs (spurred on from the TC's lack of speaker outputs) IT's been very thought out, the single side handle makes sense as it allows easy carrying to and from cars etc. It's size is easy to manage in one hand and I'm no muscle man. It's two sets of feet(side and bottom) allow for horizontal stracking too. I guess weight can be mentioned in the features. It only wieghs 12KG and as such I can pick it up and the bass and my head in one go and walk to rehearsals/gigs with it. A decent hand trolley will take you further. Overall, very good. The extra speakon makes a difference when adding more cabs, but I feel an extra handle on the adjacent side could be useful when moving the unit without having to take everything off the top. The wieght more than makes up for lack of handles. SOUND/SOUND QUALITY: 9/10 The sound of this cab is huge! Clean! and Clear! People always ask me about it's suitability to certian genres. I tell them that you get out what you put in, and with a quality head you will get a really good DI/PA sound (which I want) With my markbass head it's incredibly clear sounding and you can really hear the difference between the tube pre-amp and solidstate pre-amp. Thats how clear it is. It is also really really loud. Gigged it a few times at venues with no PA support, and it's always been the loudest thing there, being heard over the PA at the back of huge school halls. Due to it's single speaker the mids don't get muddled up or sound warped and as such it's one of few cabs you might actually need mid-scooped EQ. It will do everything for everyone providing you know how to EQ for what you want, if you don't Alex is nearly always on hand to help out. Overall it's really great sounding cab, I havent heard anything else like it, or better. The drop in point comes from the fact that some users may find they now sound 'nasal' or too clean as before they've relied on the cab for 'character'. Value For Money: 8/10 This is a quality piece of kit and you get a lot of bass cab for the money. Some think that the looks let it down and for the money can get something that looks better. Me personally, I don't care. When it sounds as good as it does, goes lower than most and louder than a lot of competition looks don't really matter. You can not get better quality for the kind of money. A Markbass neo 1x12 with a tweeter costs nearly £200 more and is heavier and will not go louder than the Barefaced Compact, infact the 9kg midget which is even less will go louder and lower than the markbass 1x12. Overall, it's simple really. I superb sound for less than mainstream manufacturers. The finish is practical however and not design to look good, although with the silver grill cloth it looks considerably vintage. Customer Support: 10/10 I've brought all of the modular range from Alex at barefaced, and loved all of them. He is a real gent to deal with and is extremely helpful and will answer the most challenging question to the most mundane, he even sent me a performance spec sheet to help me decide on what I really need. Which is a lot more than you'll get from Ampeg, fender etc. When I had my midget it arrived damaged even the box had a hole in (so no fualt of Alex's) and he was happy to do a partial trade in to upgrade it to a super12T. If you need help the guys at barefaced will help, what more can you ask for? Overall: 9/10 When it comes down to it, it out performs everything I have tried and I will not be using anything other than a Barefaced Cab. A lot of bassists say it's great and I'm surprised they don't know who Barefaced are. I'm happy to point thgem the right way aswell. It's not for absolutly everything or everyone, but it is the best compromise on the market today. Super light weight, super loud and the price is as far as I know unbeatable. The customer service is excellent and extremely helpful. It's a pro bit of kit for amateur/gigging bassist money. When your band is saying you have to take a cab you know it's a good one. I'd definitly get another if this was stolen or lost, and really want to get another or a midget to add to a stack. Superb, can not praise them enough. My bands facebook page has recording which where recorded with either the Midget or the Super12 and I'm working on recording with the Compact aswell. Stephen H.
3.
I hated both MM basses I had.. I think they may have been the shortest lived basses in my collection of them all.
HATED!?!?!?!? That natural one you had was great. Wish I had the cash to get it.
4. good quality head for no money. bump. You still have the box etc aswell right?
5. If you want something decent for no money that will stack up well against 2 guitar combos and a live drummer then you need to break away from combos. You can get one of the marshall 8x10's off the ebay for less than half your budget and the rest can get you anything that has at least 200w which would drive it enough to be louder than everything.
6. Nordstand 4.2 And a J-East pre-amp.
7.
Now you're getting it. People will try a P-Bass solo and say, 'What's all the fuss about?'. A P is simple and straightforward, but it sounds great and sits very well in a live mix. What more d'you want?
Doesn't sit in my band's mix at all. Gets lost, sounds muddy and the the higher strings had too much high end twang. Will be sticking with my active musicmen forever I guess.
8. I play a few songs I like playing on my current bass. I've also started running through the whole of Cee Lo Green - Forget you. I also do the obligatory slap but this is form my own compositions I'm working on for my band. Best thing to do is forget you are in a shop or anyone is looking at you, don't treat it as gig. If you go in and play on the bass something you will only play in the shop or to "impress" people you aren't getting the most out of teh bass for you. Lozz196 is right with the hand thing, usually if I can't finmd a comfortable spot to play with my right hand then it's not for me.
9.
From the age of 4 until I was 8 one of my best friends was a chap called Nick Hallam, now better known as DJ The Head from Stereo MCs. Unfortunately because of when our birthdays were we ended up in different years at junior school (he was in the same year as fellow Stereo MC Rob Birch) and drifted apart like you do at that age. Other musicians that I was at school with included Bruce Wooley who wrote "Video Killed The Radio Star". Also the bassist from the Sundays was in the year below me.
Then you moved to notts and it went down hill??? My guitar teacher at school was in a band called Blue Train who had a single in the US that featured on baywatch. 10. Will try but for something so real, it lacks little 'real' proof. Throw a few names in a few graphs and anyone will believe anything, like climate change.
11. No matter how amateur I or my band or another band is I still expect proffessional attitude. Even if the sun shine's out your ass and even the angels think the music you play is the most happening sh*t on the highway, playing drunk is a big no no.
12. Subscribed! Some sick tracks on there. Added a AAF track that has some bass harmonics on. Just learnt it myself struggling with the birdge however.
13. It's fair to say nottingham isn't the most musically inclined place but one thing guitar shops, even the one boutique esque one in the centre seem to fail upon providing (among other thing like decent straps) is 9v's! I always keep a stock of 4 or 5, as I use active basses and don't own a power supply for my polytune. Anyway, the cheapest I've seen is just over £2 at Makro excluding VAT. The valveshop 2 minutes drive from my work sell box of 10 for £15. Duracell's at that. That's £1.50 a battery, and 10 will last forever. http://www.hysongreentraders.co.uk/listings/TheValveShopLtd/ For those who need some batt's.
14. Hi. Just getting this back after I sent it to fender GBI for a brand new power section, as the old one blew out due to my stupidity. As such I've not heard and had to buy a replacement amp. It is essentially brand new in box it's never been played with (except testing by fender) and I have the GB gigbag that fits it nice and snug, with enough pockets for cables. No pictures as it's coming back to me tomorrow or the next day. But will ASAP. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Streamliner.html Considering the Price on Bass Direct and this is new with the £40 optional gig bag I'm asking: £600 posted! Not too bothered with trades as I'm 100% happy with everything I have. Unless someone has a early 90's sterling they want to trade. Stephen
15. Alien Ant Farm - Flesh and Bone Excellent bassline, going to do attitude next.
16. For me: It has to have a MM or MM replacement pickup in the 'sweetspot' and be active. Also has to be 'loved'! I had a big al and despite it being excellent in everything it didn't have right sound and the new feel of it was off putting. Colour isn't a deal breaker. I used to love white basses, and when I brought my sterling I was bit wierd with it but now I love it and have woken up to the fact that colour isn't important. I'd rather have a colour than natural.
17.
Hi Lawrence, yeah, with the 18 Sound. So much more noise than the 8Ohm 200W that was in there. I reckon it sounds pretty good, although playing over the neck pickup with the drive pedal on sounds a bit "farty" which disappears when I play up towards the neck... The G&L pickups seem pretty hot so maybe turn the input down on the pedal?? Having had two completely different experience sharing, I reckon I could tell the difference between a chancer and a genuine considerate player. The two bands I shared with on sat were awesome guys, it didn't feel like talking to a distracted twelve year old when i was telling them how to use my amp!! Prime - that comment about putting a pint on top of your amp just send shivers down my spine. Seriously. Anyway, this month is getting even better as a video that we filmed a couple of months ago has just come back to us and is now released! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORGJ8bXm1E0 Would genuinely appriciate any feedback, good or bad. For me it looks pretty good, if anything though a bit too much style over substance - not really a massive plot but nice transitions between scenes, good slo-mos etc. Cheers.
Very good. Although I got the good headphones out for this, the bass could do with turning up a little bit more on the track, in some sections I can barely hear it. But thats just me and I like tracks to be very bass heavy.
18.
Prime - that comment about putting a pint on top of your amp just send shivers down my spine. Seriously.
Blood boiled mate! I don't look after my basses exactly but my amp and cab are immaculate. There is a certain etiquette that doesn't need to be explained when using someone elses stuff.
We have said it many times before, if the other band does not have the courtesy of advance notice..ie the bass player calls you personally to ask..and therefore you gauge from that contact what you want to do..., then it is not your fault he arrives at a gig unable to fulfil his duties.... Also, I think you should be telling the promoter who you want on the bill..ideally
If he had asked me before we went on I could have strung up and E in seconds on his bass for him. Since we brought most of the audience in the promoter has given us a gig supporting some band that is supposed to be good (youtube vids confirm but anyone sounds good after a few pounds have been spent) .
19.
Right, Jan was a good month. New speaker, pedal (from bc), cab-case (from bc). Given the way this thread started I could end it with an opposite and much happier story from our first 2012 gig. We were put on to headline and happily shared my backline - this time to some people with brains in their heads. Absolutely crappy house kit, the floor tom kept falling over! But it's about having fun right Good fun gig. 10 months into starting playing and my 10th gig ever I'm actually starting to enjoy this music malarky!!
Good news man. If you keep at it you'll go far. My originakls have been together a good few years and done a fair few gigs and are starting to get bigger and bigger gigs, glastonbudget and a few supports this year. Anyway, I post as no E-string man decided to try and crash my gear on ouor last gig. The guy had dreads and was actually a nice guy. Up until I finished my set andwas asked if I could lend him my bass which I just spent forever fixing. He broke his E-string..... Alarms bells rang immediately!! I remembered the start of this thread and my heart sank. Conversation. Guy: Hay man, nice set. Can I borrow your bass. Me: Urm. Guy: My E-string is broken. Me: (I remember the thread) so you came to a gig with out a fully strung bass? Guy: Well, kinda. Me:................Ideally, no. Guy: I can't use the other guys, it's in C. Me: You cna use mny tuiner to tune it up?. He then started using my amp, I was under the impression there was one to be provided but after I asked if he had his own he said "I was just going to use this" as he lays a full pint on top of it. Which I moved, and turned the gain effectively off. Anyway. My amp survived. We were supposed to be supporting those douche bags.
20. What about that EHX pedal/amp thingy?
21. First dibs if it falls through!
22.
I'd been playing for about an hour with the gain and master both half way
Both my warwick when I had it and my sterling are both active and it clips the amp like buggery if it any more past 10'o'clock. and the master rarely touches above 11'o'clock. I don't want to insult your intelligence but make sure you are setting the gauin stage right for your bass. With 2x12 rig im surprised you are driving it that much, rehearsals must be really loud.
23.
Or you could try to live with the fact that instruments are like any tool, it is possible they might get damaged in use. I own 4 Gibsons and I practice and gig with them all, including my beautifully refinished Victory. There's no doubt that I'll be a bit annoyed when it picks up its first ding, but the music goes on regardless.
I would use it regardless. If you don't use it what the point of having it?
24.
Quite like that. A bot of obligatory trade show slap
With that pastie complection he definitly doesn't see the outside very often.
25. is it possible, not seen or heard of anyone trying it but I see a few headless bridge and head kits. If so what would it entail?
