I think there is definatly a happy medium between not gigging till you are tight for a decent set, and booking gigs before you have any set list to speak of. A band I was briefly with before christmas auditioned me, and I got the part, after 3 more rehearsals I knew four songs but the singer kept changing what he wanted them to sound like so they weren't tight, barely polished. Also coomplained about wanting to go on to write new stuff. The next week he had 4 gigs booked with less than 15 minutes of material. The first 2 gigs we scrapped through with amazing reception from the crowd. Two days before the 3rd the singer quit. I say two, it was the week before but he forgot to mention it. Some great songs from the singer and guitarist but after this and the subsequent troubles after, it wasn't worth the hassle.

At school I went to Canada with the orchestra for less than an hours playing time.

Must see places for musicians visiting UK
the midlands in general.... Birmingham, nottingham, Derby, Leicester... All very unmusical and very boring. Oh and Liverpool, scum capital of the UK
Nottingham's city centre is rather small, and the surrounding area provides little (known) places for those musically inclined. It doesn't help that a large portion of the youths are more into the generic hippyhop and pop stuff than more diverse tastes. -

be sure to pay Mark a visit a vist at Bass Direct in Warwick. Be ready to go home a grand or two out of pocket and someting to add to the herd though. There is nothing nice or musical in Nottingham, stay away. -
some rep or bass man from Enfield has even said that it's likely that a user would only use one or 2 settings. IIRC It a nice bass and gives options you don't usually find everyday basses.
It's a 'white people doing sister act' type group *shudder* The clapping out of time alone is enough to make you want to self harm
white people never have "da riddims" Should we explore this in "Funk and Groove" thread? Does the choir sing to the songs being played by the "band" then? (if I missed it) If so I'm sure that you can find backing tracks to 90% of church songs.

It's the state of affairs at the minute, unless something is either really disirable or an absolute steal no one is going to take a punt, especially since re-selling is so hard. It's worse this time of year aswell, after an expensive christmas. For me I have 55% of my families birthday in the first 2 months of the year aswell.......

Could this be my dream valve starter bass amp??
Prime_BASS replied to kristinaelias's topic in Amps and Cabs
Maybe you should just plonk around on the bass without an amp.... Or with your guitar amp (if you have one) I'll say now that you wont break anything at all by using a bass with a guitar amp. You just won't get the same low end extension that you get with PA or a dedicated Bass amp. -
So what is a Jazz bass and what is the best example?
I've tried boutique 'jazz' basses, mainly Sadowsky, and no, they don't sound close enough to the Fender tone. A much dryer, flatter, less exciting tone. Hardly any of that jazz grind when both pups are on. Indeed, I ventured into trying many brands, just to see if I could own a non Fender Jazz. It didn't work..,they were all super-jazz basses (more modern and often quite polite sounding) or the QC (in the Lakland Skylines) was worse than the Fenders. Eventually I just gambled on Fender again and got a good one!
Same for me in the EBMM Stingray copies. Other brands with the MM type of pickup just seem like they are missing something, although I'm happy with my corvette (for now) it's definatly not the same as my sterling or stingray. Polite is a good way of putting it. The "faillings" of fender or EBMM is what makes them sound unique, but I guess it helps having the pedigree aswell. I'm sure if Sandberg or Sadowsky came round first then people would be saying the "nothing is like a sadowsky jazz". but that arguement has been done to death. -
It's always good when stuff goes your way.
According to him? 4 until i dropped out... officially? him and his girlfriend. I just want to ask him 'have you ever thought that MAYBE the reason you can't find any musicians to play with you is that no-one WANTS to play with you?'
It would seem the common denominator would be that he is a mahooosive fag.

Prime_BASS replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
to me a jazz bass is defined by the singlecoils in the traditional positions. I don't so much like the 70's spacing. At the same time Jazzes do not do it for me at all. The Best fender Jazz I have played is the Roadworn, definatly above its own price range and for a MIM fantastic. Sadowsky makes a few stunners. -
He's doing all the hardwork by the looks of it, and with the ability to record stuff at a decent quality the end reward could be very benificial.
To add to this, you now have what's generally regarded as being one of the best starter basses around so as far as gear is concerned, you're sorted. Now the fun stuff starts - begin learning, practice, have a laugh and enjoy your bass and your bass playing!
This. Far too many people talk about playing. I play for about an hour a day. Happy as larry with what I can do and the sound I make, I just need to fix my damn bass!

Marshall MB4210. Great little mid priced combo. Ampeg SVT-3 pro. Fantastic sound just lacks juice. Orange Terror Bass. Confirms I love tube pre. Markbass LMTube 500 the best head of its kind, if a little over priced when new. TC Electronic RH750. Really great sound for solid state but something missing, more than the watts. Markbass F1. So so light. Eden WTX 500. The worst amp I've had. And back to the Markbass LMTube 500. So clear and the tube pre sounds amazing, does exactly what I need it to do, don't think ill be buying anything else. For a while.
-
Have to say it though. Depends how many real watts you want....... Also I think the TC heads go down to 2.6 ohms which can be useful (IIRC)

Would love to see reverse headstock on a jazz. The silhouette is just using the sterling basses wood parts, I just have to make the single coil pickup casings so its HSS and make the pickguard. The custom one I want to do is based on Mark King's Status bass design, with what I want from a bass tonally/electronically. Sanding takes a month of sundays!!! I refin'ed two basses and sanding on each one took me over a week of long evenings.
-
Yeah of course. I just finished re-wiring my warwick so it selects the 2 inner coils (closer to the mm position) and half way through turning my sterling into a "silhouette" bass. Pretty standard interms of innovation, but what I want to do hasn't been done on this kind of bass before, that I know off. And providing headless can be done in the 5 days then it'll be possible.
-
I'm currently saving for this, but ill have to stay up that way and food will cost me a bomb.!!! I have ideas that have never been done!
You may say whatever you want, but this baby: would look awesome on the wall as a ornament. It's just that I wouldn't keep her on the wall. I'd be playing her like crazy.
why is there no bass version of this? the rest look terrible and the J and P look old hat tat.
