Do any of you Change your Tone for Gigging?
Prime_BASS replied to la bam's topic in General Discussion
Thats an amazingly good example of common sense - much easier than strolling back to the amp, making adjustments, then back FOH to hear the results.
It's how I do every gig. Alot of the time the soundguy is just putting a compressor on for FOH and I just re-EQ my amp so I can hear when I'm playing. It's all in the fingers and all that... -
Yes. but it`s worth it if you stick with it.
This. When I ever I start an instrument the first few sessions on it decide weather it'll stick or not. Depends on weather I find it exciting to play and love the sound that happens when I play it. Be good if you could meet with a double basser on a regular basis to hype transition the change from electric to upright.

Pics or it doesn't happen!!
Avoid the Avatar. The drivers used, Delta 10s, are marginal for electric bass use.
Indeed ignore thge numbers. The Ampeg will be a lot better, and you can't go wrong with Ampeg.

Birdseye top is ace!
This. If you want to do your own challenging thing then write your own songs.
Odd occassions our original outfit is required to play a cover (battle of the bands etc.) . I hate doing this, so usually take the micky a bit. Or do my own thing during the song.

Finally getting my bass built! By our very own Ou7shined!
Prime_BASS replied to woodyratm's topic in Build Diaries
question is cost? G.A.S central right now. -
Okay - in a nutshell....... Thicker strings require greater length to have similar tension to strings of less mass. Therefore - just like a piano or a harp the heavy strings are longer on a Dingwall and therefore have a similar tension to the thinner (higher) strings - simple! There is a 3/4" difference from string to string. Playability is easy peasy, the money notes from the 3 - 7 fret are almost parallel and your hand naturally wants to move in the direction of the frets when you go low or high on the bass. 4, 5 or 6 string life is so much easier on a Dingwall, but once you are trying to go low there is nothing like the Dingwall. The Afterburner bases have a 37" scale B string (it does not feel that long) which you can drop tune 2, 3 4 or more semitones with no loss of feel or clarity. The SJSP has a 35" B strings which is also amazing and will drop a couple of semi-tones no problem! On the 4 string SP4/SJ$ you have a 34 1/4" E string that drops nicely down to D or lower, on the Afterburner 4 string the E is 36 1/4" so you can drop that baby drop to a low A or lower, no problem - try doing that on your 34" scale regular bass and it is like playing a bit of old rope! I hope that helps, please ask if you need any more information. Regards Mark
Makes sense, and it does work. Not many people come up with innotive ideas and make them stick.

New Amp - MoMark. Plus amp history/review/pics. Lots of pics!
Prime_BASS replied to gafbass02's topic in Amps and Cabs
The thing about the 800w power amp from markbass is that it only really reaches about 650w peak, so not surprised it's not as loud as the 900w shuttle, although the difference should be minimal. Shame about the barefaced. Hard for some to get their heads around I guess. -
I understand it a little more now thanks, will be putting this into practice when some bits arrive. I want the authentic stingray sound from the sterling, so if it proves to difficult. How do I get the preamp to except the pickup in parallel, or is the 3-coil wired this way anyway with the otehr modes as options via a switch?

Ampeg SVT3 Pro - to change or not to change!?
Prime_BASS replied to grunge666's topic in Amps and Cabs
I was te same with my SVT3-pro. The markbass LMTube is great for the valve preamp sound, also because it has the blendable solid-state pre to remind you of the extra harmonics you get from a tube pre-amp. -
Looking for a previous post about Precision Pickups
http://www.ozbassfor...&st=0&sk=t&sd=a this the one in question, guys?
Why arn't there more things like this. I also think that these pickup manufacturers should have sound samples available on their sites. -
I've gutted and condemned the electronics from my Sterling. I have brought a SMB-4A 3-coil and going to buy a East MMSR Pre-amp 3 band + Volume. I want to keep the Series/Single/Parallel option via the 3 way toggle. So I have to wire in a 3 way switch before the pre-amp. I've looked at the intrustions for the East and it makes little sense as the pickup has 5 wire(same as on a regular stingray p'up) Red, Black, White, Green and bare. I've also looked at Seymour Duncans site for wiring a 3 way switch aswell, but this only requires a single black wire to go towards the pre-amp.(I assume the risistor is to help keep the volume between each three modes level) The original electronics are also a little mind boggling as there are so many wire going to and from the switch to the board, with different colours aswell. All I need and want is a simple guidline or diagram to show what wire go where on a three-way switch and how to connect it to the East preamp. Thanks.

Warwick Corevette $$ Natural Oil finish, 2004 (IIRC) german made. looking for around £650 email "] 2nd owner, has a few bumps and scraps, but nothing major and cosmetically displeasing. A few bumps on the back like buckle rash but a little deeper and wider, but hard to photograph. Comes with Warwick Gig bag truss rod adjustment tool manual and wax. Has a new set of DR hi-beam 45-100 on it. Ive done my best to set it up, but it's thousand of parameters and vastly different from the simple sterling it may want changing to suit your needs, I'd say medium action. Payments by bank transfer preffered, will post but this will be extra and done through interparcel. Trades: Modulus Funk Unlimited that would be nice. Stingray (must be light) Sterling something of that vien. Amps-Cabs. I'm fairly set on what I have now. Misc. I'm really trying to get recording equipment, Mics, audio interfaces etc.
No not really. In your other thread you said the neck was so bad it needed adjusting nearly every time you picked it up. So bad was this that you said the neck 'needed replacing'. Yet here when you want to sell it, you describe it as 'no big deal'. Which one is it please?
Editted, are you interested?
Disagree, he should explain the full issues with the bass in the OP, I might put a Jazz bass up for sale later but fail to mention it has no pick ups.
The bass has a neck, what's your point?
Given the evidence and the concerns raised, it's up to the individual if they want to buy this bass or not.
Anyone interested freely has my email, address and phone. If they find the neck's tempremental nature a problem that they can not handle, I'd be happy to take it back off them for the sale price providing I get it back in the same state it left me in. -
sounds like an a-typical fretless sound to me. New strings, less attack on both plucking and fretting hand may help. Once you have the strings on, you may find you need to cut around 2khz and boost a little on the low mid side, around 800hz.
The dark one with the mutes is a '94; a plain maple neck and a nice deep slab of rosewood to top it off!
NOICE! earlier the better IMO.

What year Sterling is that? Very tasty, same finish as mine, 'cept mines neck is 1 piece birdseye maple.
Hmmmm. Trusty? No major damage? Something else? Not a big deal? Seems you thought a bit differently here: http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1
Did I not explain the neck issue in enough detail? I'm not fussed if it doesn't sell, hence the feeler* I'd like to keep it but can't justify keeping it while I use the warwick exclusivly (ATM) -
For Sale is my trusty Sterling. HoneyBurst finish. Birdeye Maple neck and f/b. Black Pickguard SD SMB-4A 3-coil, Will Supply original EBMM ceramic aswell. 8.5lbs It's a 95 body with a 94 neck, so very early Sterling. It was previously owned by the Bassist from Midget('90's pop punk band) and has seen a lot of use. There is no major damage, aside from a few finish flaws. The neck is truely something else, it's worn and used and looks the business, even more so with the birdseye. I changed the pickup as ceramics always choke the sound the alnico SD definitely opens it up. Although since I installed it the single coil mode has stopped working and the series one is buzzy! parrallel is fine (which is one I use so not been bothered to fix) but will fix before final sale. Also the SD is slightly bigger than the original and the pickguard doesn't fit over it too well (does with force) but it looks ace with no guard. I've had this bass a while now and I've noticed it's neck to be very tempremental. Especially since I walk every where with it. It's by no means bent, it does the job. It isn't broken. I've expressed my thoughts on this in another thread. I would class this as a "classic" and like a lot of classic used basses (that ive played) it needs a tweak every now and then. I find this a little annoying as I'm no expert but usually a 1/8 turn solves any changes that can accure. Since a worried and semi-sarcastic thread wondering about neck options, it's been looked at and im assured it fine, and since the thread it has been fine, and I've not needed to adjust the truss rod. There are some images from when I first got it on here somewhere, but will Email current ones to those interested. "] Shipping will be extra (cheap from interparcel) but people are more than welcome to collect. £700 ONO, not too interested in trades but will listen to anything (4 strings only)
