gelfin replied to Dood's topic in Accessories and Misc
Ordered mine Wednesday, arrived special delivery today. Excellent service I say. Plenty of advice and help from Chris. Even replied to emails at 10pm. -
Entwhistle Pickups - what are your thoughts?

Bought a P type for my Antoria, totally blown away with how good it is and exceptional value for money. -
Anyone in a band with NO interpersonal issues???
gelfin replied to mingsta's topic in General Discussion
Same band members for 15 years. Trio. Never had a dissagreement. -
Do you have an iPad? If so I'd seriously consider the Soundcraft Ui 16. Get rid of the mixing desk altogether, do your monitors from behind the mics, open up a whole new world of dynamic processing. If you don't want to go too loud I'd also consider the RCF Evox 8 system if only for portability.
Having just started using the Soundcraft Ui 16 I have to agree. It's a fantastic piece of kit. Check out the demo here. http://www.soundcraft.com/ui-demo/mixer.html
When I was a teenager, I bought a roll of backing paper (wallpaper) and redrew the whole Yes catalogue of Dean covers in an endless mural across the top of my bedroon wall. Remember when we had time to do those kinds of things
I did a similar thing with Yes lyrics. I still don't understand them tough, even if they do seem to mean something.

Just goes to show that cd covers are pants.

Your lead and amp are the most important part of your signal chain
gelfin replied to TomRichards's topic in Amps and Cabs
In a double blind test I could tell the difference and choose correctly 20 times out of 20, between a basic IEC (kettle) mains lead £4.99 and a Naim audio powerline mains lead. £499.00 This was using a top of the range Naim Hi Fi system. And yes I did think the Naim lead was better. I also use a Chord cream lead as was mentioned earlier in this thread. Chosen by listening. Using Ric, P, T-Bird and Kramer basses. GK combos and heads. Trace and various GK cabs. Running for cover now. -
Respect to you sir.

There are two of these hanging around in a shop in Bristol.

This is a monstrosity, but as it's mine I like it. The bass that is.

Not entirely. But from where I was sitting I couldn't really tell. St Davids Hall, we had seats centre front row tier one. Just above the sound and light guys. Best seats in the house. Whether full or not wouldn't take away the quality of the performence. Opening with Spectral Mornings was awesome and had the hairs standing up on my arms.

Just back from the Hackett gig in Cardiff. Have to say I really enjoyed it.
Can't be a class C. Class C is not suitable for audio applications because it has horrendous distortion (and not in a good way!). Class A traditionally gets used for HiFi amps because it has very low distortion, but it has very high power consumption - in effect it uses all the available power all the time, whether it's producing an output signal or not. Instrument rigs normally use Class B or Class AB IIRC. If properly designed they give low distortion, and are much more efficient than class A - in simple terms, no output signal means little or no power drain. (In practice there'd normally be a little, but minimal.) As I said though I'm very rusty on this stuff as I haven't practised it in 25 years or more.
My pair of Krell class A power amps use 1Kwatt each, just by being on.
I am just looking to get some lights for our band too. I have no idea where to start. . . . http://www.ebay.co.u...19#ht_25wt_1399 Something like that? To face back at the band? Then some spots to face outwards? I've been in plenty of bands before with lights, but paid absolutely no attention to them what so ever. I really have no clue, so all help is appreciated. Can start my own thread if needed?
Give me a shout if you want to see them.

Just moved over to LED from standard pars. Got 8 of these. http://www.hifi-towe..._GYMaAshg8P8HAQ Easily found on the web not just Hi Fi Tower. Apart from the decent lighting effect there are some other benefits. Power wise they can be daisy chained with iec male / female extension leads, so no need for a psu for each lamp. Simple set up with daisy chain of xlr DMX leads and first as master rest set as slaves and use some simple program functions or sound to light. You could have a master with IR control. Not that easy when playing but can be used to set scenes chases etc. Best way with a DMX controller. I use a Chauvet Obey 70. Spend a little time programming and you can have set scenes / washes. Or if more adventurous set the scenes as chases which loop and can be set for speed of chase and speed of wash change. The Obey 70 can control up to 12 fixtures, so other DMX lights can be incorporated into the show.
I'm the best Bertbass type bass player in the world and no one can come close to playing just like me! I'm sure that you are the best Number6 type bass player in the world.
Yep, and I'm the best Gelfin bass player. And remember as someone said on here. "Every time you play a right note you are as good as anyone in the world".

Just been playing with the SC Ui this morning. A simple set up with 5 mics for an acapella ensemble. Just go to iPad network settings and select Sondcraft network. Open safari and enter the given address and up pops the interface. Up to ten users can connect simultaneously. Wireless connection good up to 20 metres. (thats as far as I could go) Brilliant. Not stuck by the desk. Just a fairly simpe mix. EQ and effects easy to use. Sound quality, better than the Soundcraft LX 7 that I would have been using. No noticable latency. Can be as simple or complex as you wish. It does so much that it will take a while to get really deep into al the functions. Big bonus is going to be how much less to carry to gigs. Ui mixer, 2 active PA cabs, 2 active monitors. Will be back as things progress.

Just received the Soundcraft UI 16 today. iPad interface So far only powered up and connect iPad to see the interface. It does alot and seems quite intuitive. Wireless connection seems stable and secure. You set your own password. It creates it's own wireless network, so no need for any other kit. No app as it uses a web interface, so any wireless device can connect. Apple, Android, laptop. Will be using it in earnest this weekend, so will see how it goes.

Did you put a senders/return address on the package? If so and they can't deliver, it should come back to you.
