1. GK for me. I have RBH400 1X15" RBH 700 2X12" Fusion 550 head and various GK cabs. Just love the range of sounds they produce.
2. Hunt around for one of these s/h http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Novation-Bass-Station-Synth-/291576196920?hash=item43e34baf38 I use one in the same way you mentioned. All sounds built in.
3. Have replied in your other thread. If you are stuck for a gig you could borrow either my GK RBH 400 combo (250w 15") or GK Fusion 550 head. Will message again with my mobile. I am in Cardiff by the way.
4.
I just love the tension created by that opening drone. The words are 'spoken' in almost a monotone. They mean nothing and they mean everything. And, yes, I am.
Just out of curiosity, did you write that from memory?
5. Hi I think you are in the Cardiff area. Give this guy a call. Pete on 07974011421. He's based above Audio T (Hi Fi shop) on Crwys Rd. He has been an audio engineer for as long as I can remember and got me out of a hole on many occasions.
6. On the hill we viewed the silence of the valley.
7.
Rush , for me. Time , stand still - I'm not looking back but I want to look around me now.
Plus 1. That made the hairs on my arm stand up. Often commented to mates about that line.
8.
talkbass only managed 8 pages.. think they saw sense earlier than we did
9. Not sure if the oxidation is the cause of the innitial problem. Contact cleaner is good. put it on the rca plug then make and break the connection a couple of times, plug in and unplug. This cleans the inner and outer surfaces of the connectors. Also check out your speaker connections, both on the amp and the speakers.
10. If your bridge has holes for anchoring the strings, make sure the B will fit through before you do anything else.
11. Why is that an instrument must be the best for recording but not for a local pub gig? At a pub gig you can hear the real instrument, whatever it is in terms of "quality". A good band, with a good mix can sound awesome and you can have a connection with the music that is unlikely or rare when listening to recordings. Listening to recorded music also depends a great deal on the media format and how good the music playing system is. How many of us could identify between various, differing costs and quality of a bass on a compressed digital file. How many of us have a Hi Fi system capable of reproducing the sound of the recorded bass, (or other instruments). Any bass can sound good or bad in any live situation, depending on the player and amp / PA settings but it will always sound crap after being compressed and played on a cheap low fi system or PC speakers.
12. I've just oredered the Soundcraft Ui16. Will report on it when I have given it a trial. Heard good things about it, ans it seems well priced.
13.
I'd just by a new cable from our own obbm on here - worth it for the 100% peace of mind.
This, Quality cable and connectors with no fuss.
14.
I've seen a lot of horn players using these (or something similar).
I use these both for playing and on my mixer when doing sound. They do a great job.
15. This is one variant of my board. The Carl Martin Combinator saves a lot of one foot dancing. It gives me 18 combinations of my pedals with one button push. 18. Although I have offered help, please chip in as well in case anything untoward crops up.
19. Probably worth checking for correct polarities.
20. "M" when was the last time you gigged? Did you only take one bass? Ever broken a string? I would assume you take plenty of spare stringpings. I can't find a tongue in cheeck omoticon thingy.
21. I take at least FIVE basses to a gig. Then I get the musos to vote on which one I should use. Then don't use it. I find this endears me to my audience.
22. Two tickets for Crimson Thursday 3rd September. Sudden circumstances prevent us going. Open to offers.
23. Yep Elegant Punk, great album.
