Saw this via the ebay wierd and wonderfull topic. My guitarist had sometime ago said he would like an electroacoustic mandolin. He has acoustic. So I dug out an old sort of Tele blank that I had been given years ago that I had stashed away for future use. It had been poorly rough cut to shape. It is 2" thick very solid mahogany. Searched through my boxes of bits and got a few bits from flea bay. And so it starts. Guitar will be. Tele neck, Strat electronics. Mandolin will be donor neck (not the one shown, a newer one) Tele neck pup and piezzo under bridge with a blend pot rather the pup selector.

Had one years ago. Almost had to give it away £16 still too much for it.

Where needed I use an original Novation bass station and Moog Taurus 3 pedals. Actually I use the Taurus even when not really needed.

de afwerking mk4-4++ - blablas has that building itch again
gelfin replied to blablas's topic in Build Diaries
May be a bit late with this suggestion but you could consider decluttering the headstock by taking a leaf out of Kramers 8 string book the XL8 has the lighter string tuners at the opposite end of the bass. Mate of mine wanted to learn bass. He just couldn't get it. Strange thing is that he has turned to drums and is doing fine.
Just a quick thought , I have a tanglewood that I got in bits as a project and when it all got put together I had an issue thinking the truss rod head was stripped , but after taking it apart again found the the socket was a lot deeper than it first appeared , thus adjustment was perfectly doable .
Hopefully we will find out if it's the case with this one.

No Honest it was a mondolin, here's the evidence. £20 off fleabay for a project I have in mind. A hunt through "ebay wierd and wonderfull" will give you a clue. Hi Mel. Here's an offer. I will arrange a courier to collect from you. You will need to be able to print out PDF's of the shipping labels and receipts. And wrap it up safely. I will attempt the repair that I suggested in your NBD thread. If successful I will offer to send it back to you at my expense for you to use as you wanted, or we can agree to donate to a school or worthy cause. PM me if interested and I will give faster contact details.
Nah. Lucky would have been to order a Banjo and for the bin to have been emptied...
Not sure I would admit to ordering a banjo.

Would this be the bass you mentioned earlier on NBD thread?

I was expecting a delivery last Wednesday, so when I get home on Monday and find a Tried to post card from Hermes through letterbox I am a bit surprised. Closer reading of the card to find out what to do tells me "In the green bin" The green bin is for garden waste and is normally collected on a Monday. I look in green bin, it hasn't been emptied, still full of garden waste and a Mondolin. Lucky or what?

Try an a reverse thread screw extractor set. These on Amazon. Plenty of others to be found. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Teng-SE05-Screw-Extractor-Pieces/dp/B000Y8NE56/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1410643858&sr=8-3&keywords=screw+extractor+set Turn left, anti clockwise as you look at the nut to undo. These extractors will only work the correct way as they tighten as you turn. Go the wrong way and they just come out.

Of the later books "Small Gods" is my favourite. Off I go to find it and read it again.......

I have a late 80's jetglo. It's the best Ric I have ever played. At the last Cardiff bass bash the guys who weren't that keen on Rics, played it and changed their minds. However a couple of years ago I tried some out at PMT Bristol. If I closed my eyes I wouldn't believe I was playing a Ric they just felt wrong and didn't have the classic sound. Every modern one I have tried has been slightly disappointing. I guess this can happen with any brand though. If you're going to spend a significant amount on any bass you just have to research and try a few before you buy. Not easy nowadays I know.
Wow some good recommendations there. I'll post info on my choice and how I got on. I'm not sure about Terry P though, isn't it all a bit ghouls and goblins. Please let me know if I'm wrong as I'm always open to new ideas.
Not about Ghouls etc. About a disfunctional wizzard for the first two books. A very humorous take on life in general. Got to be worth a try. First two are fairly short books.

Early Terry Pratchet stuff. The colour of Magic, The Light Fantastic etc.

Managed to persuade Garry to part with his Kramer XL8 8 string bass that he had brought to the Cardiff bass bash previously. Garry is a top guy to deal with, great communicator and totally trustworthy. Here's the beauty. I use one of these. Works fine for me. http://www.musicians...e-headphone-amp And if you had been able to make it to the bash you could have tried it out.

Just collected this. Kramer XL8, 8 string bass (octaves) First came across it at the last but one Cardiff bass bash and had gas for it ever since. Now I have it thanks to Garry. If you have never heard what these sound like come along to the next bash on 25 October. Details in events. I have just had to replace a driver in a GK210 RBH. bought it from fleabay. Got it tried it out and one of the drivers voice coils is rubbing. Fortunately the seller agrred straight away to pay for replacement. Bad news for Dr Dave is that they cost £122.40 plus VAT from Polar audio and I have just bought the last one they have in stock.
Spose you've tried the other obvious, something else loose in the cab, like handles, the baffle or the back etc.. Hows about the thin end of the cone ? Had the 'hinge' start to come away once or twice where its glued to the frame, usually with old gear. though. Just glued it back and all was well .
Had this happen to a GK 15" driver. the adhesive sticking the spider to the magnet housing was coming adrift. Low notes caused the farting sound.

If it started with a Thunderbird with a reverse body, how do we know it was reverse?
Sorry I missed this yesterday, every Rick I have played was terrible, every Gibson I have tried had neck dive so these are my findings, if that upsets people that's just how it is, do I cry in my corn flakes at the mention of weak G strings, active basses sucking, over priced mass produced ebmm basses? Nope.
You haven't played my Ric. At every Cardiff bass bash the "I don't like Rics" have had a go and changed their minds. There are great examples of all marques, just like there are poor ones. Each to his own, and I like playing my own.

How come we call one a NON reverse Thunderbird and then call the reverse Thunderbird a Thunderbird?
