1. Just to let you know that Sat 3rd November has gone.
2. If this location is good for all who would like to join in then lets have a list and a date so I can book the venue. There is no cost involved but perhaps a voluntary donation may be fair. Please don't be put off by it being a Church building. Good parking. Clean facilities etc.
3. I played in a band where keys were a pain. So when an acoustic piano was being used I screwed down the top flap and filled the rear of the piano with felt. When she used an electric piano / synth it was through the PA, which is mine and I control it, not much LF getting through.
4. Cardiff. At the crossroads near the Three Arches pub. On Llandennis Rd. Near the end of Roath Park Lake. Google CF23 6EE for a better idea of location.
5. I'm pretty flexible any day in November, (except Sundays) As I mentioned before I may be able to use my Church building. We would be able to use three rooms there. A very large hall, a medium sized hall. And down in the depths of the basement is our bands practise room, smallish, 10ft x 20 ft with a very low ceiling. All our bands kit is down here. I could get my guitarist and a drummer for jamming with. And more if people want. There would be no alcohol permitted inside, but there is a pub a stones throw away. The Three Arches ( Brains) Saturday afternoon / evening would be best. If interested give me your favoured date and I can check that it's free. Good car park as well for easy loading. Kit available is Gallien Kreuger RB 400 15 combo Gallien Kreuger Fusion 550 head / GLX 410 cab / BLX 210 cab Old Trace 410 and 1x15, Peavey Black widow 15 cabs Ric 4003 Tokai Thunderbird Epi Explorer Toby pro4 Ryder P bass Mazetti 8 string Strange twin neck? All could have a go on my Taurus bass pedals
6. Thank you, just made my evening Here you go. Now you can be happy!
7. And I thought there would be a vid of the 70's choc bar advert.
8. VAT works like this. Dealer buys product for £100 from manufacturer. Added to this is VAT @20%. Total cost to dealer is £120.00. Dealer sells product to retail customer for £200. Added to this is VAT @ 20%. Total cost to retail customer is £240.00 Dealer has a VAT input of £20 this is offset by the output VAT of £40. HMRC gets £20. Dealer makes a profit of £100
9. I'm in too if it's in Cardiff or very near. Hi Debs we talked about this a while ago but it seemed to fall by the wayside. I may be able get use of my Church on a Saturday afternoon evening. A few usable rooms. Never been to a bass bash, how does it work? Pub nearby for a pint after!
10. I have a good friend who is a self employed audio / Tv engineer. His rates are £55minimum charge (first hour) excluding parts. Some of his customers are outraged at being asked to pay this for just changing a cheap transistor or other basic component. It has to be pointed out that he had the skill and knowledge to find the faulty component. And has all the overheads mentioned in the OP. I have worked for the last 27 years in the HI Fi, Custom installation of multi-room audio & video systems. The majority of these customers accept the quote for the kit and labour but a sad few want you to work for nothing, even though you are the only person local to them that has the skill and knowledge to provide them with their toys. Just been made redundant so what do I decide to do? I decide to do the same thing on my own. I'm fully aware of the pitfalls but at my age and lack of educational qualifications it seems I am unemployable. Wish me luck. With the type of kit I will be working with i.e. PA & multi media systems I will be able to offer good deals on certain products to BC members. Look out for a post on off topic when I give myself a plug.
11. Is your wife holding the mic or is it stand mounted. Also consider a lapel radio mic or a mini headset. The Shure mics are great but need to be used close to the mouth and used in straight line to get the best out of them.

13. May be a bit late on this but if you are near Bridgend then you may also be near this guy in Cardiff. http://www.shedpickups.com/ He seems to be able to make / wind any pick up you want.

15. Not so much clearing the dance floor but once we had the floor fill up and everyone sat down to listen. Much against my better judgement I had agreed to us playing Stairway to Heaven. Having 150ish people sit down and listen was nerve wracking.
16. Small gigs, Soundcraft FX16 mixer. Carlsbro gamma active speakers. Simple foldback, crown power amp cheapo stage monitors. Larger gigs Soundcraft LX7 24 channel mixer, Carlsbro gamma actives on poles. Crown power amp driving 4 15" cabs (own design using ATC drivers) Crown power amp driving 2 18" subs (own design using precision devices drivers.) Foldback crown power amps 4 monitors brand unknown.. Mostly sure SM58 and 57 mics. Sabine feedback destroyer, Alesis compressor/gate. Bass Di'd from GK head. Guitar and drums mic'd Sound check done with my bass wireless and wearing headset mic. Roadie on mixer listening to me via h/phones. 18" subs only used really to get best from Moog Taurus bass pedals.
17. As a point of interest Tyla Gang supported Rush on the 2112 tour.

19. Last Saturday was my daughters wedding. After a few let downs she decided that my band should play at the evening party. The wedding day was great and so was the evening party, we went down well with people up and rocking most of the night. Happy days. Rest day Sunday to recover. Then as a complete contrast I had agreed to play in my Church's praise band for a daily children's holiday club. I usually sit at the back and operate the AV system. I have to say that it was the most rewarding time, with over a hundred kids a day (aged from 5 to 12) at the club all having a great time. Just to see them enjoying themselves so much was brilliant. Their joy was payment enough. I thoroughly recommend giving it a try if you have the opportunity.
20. I get more questions about my spandex than anything else. Not going to post the pic again.
21. Excellent news. Let us Welsh know when you have a gig and we'll be there to support you.
22. I have tried a few "not too expensive" acoustic bass and found them too be poor and lost interest in playing them. End up giving them away. Get a good one or it's just not worth it.
23. It's probably that British thing. Always knock the good uns cos were jealous.
