1. Got it, nice one, thanks for the tip off.
2. You could check out the Ashdown Jay Lomenzo hyperdrive. This splits the signal into high and low, applies the desired effect to the highs only and mixes back with the lows on output.
3. Excellent news, We need many more venues like this in Cardiff. I can crawl home from here in 30 mins. Anyone remember the POINT?
4. No not really, just the black one, the white one and so on.

This should be pinned in full for all to refer to. I wish I had the patience to have written it. Well done Phil.
6.
They aren't great, Rikkaxxe is run by one of the bad sort of music shop guys, who looks down on customers and basically has a shop to house his collection. Across the bear pit with the bad buskers from there is Mickleburgh and that is ok, downstairs is the electric instruments and a guy who calls you 'dude' in the least convincing way ever. Then down the road is the House of Bass, where you should come so I can try and sell you my stuff.
Where exactly is your place, please. If you want a strange music shop experience try Electric Ladyland. It's about half a mile from the Marriott Hotel. Full of old gear and run by Steve, who is a law unto himself. Asks too much for anything and seems reluctant to sell things as he has become attached to them. However a good look at the history of electric instruments and amps.
7. I have a pair of Wilkinson bridges on my twin neck. (see my avatar) I am happy with them. Easy to adjust to neck width and sem pretty stable.
8.
What hostility? I just have a low opinion of much of what seems to pass for advice on that list. The thread discussing your problem absolutely confirms that. Glad to hear you're looking at the reconing option.
Hi I would just like to say that B-String is one of the best contributers on any bass forum. Well respected on the GK forum and a very helpful and knowledgable guy. He really knows about GK kit. Also I'm pretty sure a replacement driver from Polar audio would not have cost much more than a Wembley recone. When you eventually get it back, if you are not happy with it Pm me and I may be able to get you one at trade plus postage. A couple years ago I had to replace my 15" GK combo driver, it cosy me £92. Good luck. Also, it is just as likely to be able to damage a speaker with an under powered amp. An overdriven power output stage and clipping are driver killers.
9. A Sumbro EBO copy, an old Hi Fi amp with home made cab, Fane pop 50. £20 all in. Back in 70 something. It all got stolen so was replaced with a Columbus Jazz copy a Carlsbro Stingray head and a locally made 15 cab.
10. I use a GK 700RB-II into a 210RBH cab, this setup's available as a combo with the added advantage of pop out wheels. Sounds great and as a combo I don't think you could go wrong if that's what you're after. A1+ the 700RB 210 combo is amazing, relatively light weight plus wheels and a pull out handle. You can always add a second cab, 210 / 410/ 115 etc.
11. Hi one GK head that hasn't had a mention here is the Fusion550. (Its big brother the Fusion 1050 should be out about now) A valve pre amp teamed up with the legendary 1001 power amp section. Bi-amping for their RBH cabs. Great feature is the foot switchable channels. Set up two sounds and when you hit the footswitch all the motorised knobs quickly move to the other channel settings I have use mine with a variety of cabs / combinations. GLX 410, RBH 410, BLX 210. Another cute feature is taking a feed from the effect send and plugging into the effect return of my RB400/115 combo and using this as my on stage bass monitor.
12. Hi you may want to check out this company. http://www.chord.co.uk They mainly make Hi end cables for Hi Fi but a lot of them play in bands and are passionate about music. The Chord "Cream" is their instrument cable, I use it and love it. Here's a direct link to their instrument cable page. 13. I've had my 4003 for 5 years. I have bought many other basses (GAS) since, Jazz, Tobias , Thunderbird, Overwater, Explorer but I still keep going back to it. It just feels right, let alone the tone I get from it. GK Fusion 550 head & 4x10 cabs. Rotosound rounds. The only bass that comes near is my Chris Squire LTD edition RIC, more GAS. They are not hard to adjust if you are patient and follow the correct method of adjusting the rods.
14. Why not heck out a Tascam CD BT1. It'a CD portble player with an input for your bass and a headphone out. It does all sorts of tricks like taking out the CD bassline and let you play over, you can slow down tracks without lowering pitch to help learn the bassline and much more.
15.
I *think* the issue is that bass wavelengths are much nearer the size of a room, so weird interference patterns, resonances and suchlike are much more pronounced than higher frequency instruments. Could be talking bollox mind you!
A1+. Room size plays a big part on how you or the audience perceive the sound. Together with where you place your cab. As an example go listen to a good church organ, (pipe or electric). Stand near the pipes or speakers and you wonder where the lows have gone. If you can get 32 feet away from it, it all comes together. OK I know we don't have the low 32ft pipe in our hands but the principle is the same. BASS NEEDS SPACE. If you don't have a good sound man do as suggested earlier in the thread and use wireless to get some distance away for your sound check

17. A lot of interesting experiences and comments here. I have worked in a specialist Hi Fi retailer for 25 years. So from my side of the counter I have met a broad spectrum of customers, from arrogant time wasters to those who have surprised me by buying big when I didn't expect it. Over the years I learned to treat every new customer with respect at first and try to be helpful ( whilst still trying to make a sale). So now if a suit comes in or Mr casual I don't differenciate until I have learned a bit about them and what they are after. Customers are our lifeblood. If you give one bad service they are likely to relate this to as many people as they can. Whereas a satisfied customer will only tell a select few. So when I enter an instrument shop I hope to get the same service as we hopefully provide. This doesn't always happen. Like his one. I was stuck in slow traffic and noticed a music shop that I had not seen before. So I quickly pull over and park and enter shop. (They will remain nameless) There ae no other customers in the shop at this time. No one greets or acknowlegdses me. Oh well, I search for he bass section and as usual find it tucked away at the back of the shop. Not a great deal there to see but I see hanging up high a Thunderbird and am interested in it. All instruments have labels saying please do not touch them without assistance. I look over to the counter where 5 staff are talking, catch one's eye and gesture to the T Bird. I get ignored. I then decide to take down the bass and have a try out. No one seems to care. I want to buy it but my stubborness makes me walk out. I call a guitarist friend who lives in the area and tell him what happened. He knows the manager of the shop, calls him and explains what gives. Then tells me if I am prepared to go back they will do me a special deal to make up. I decide to go back but when I get there the manager has gone out but has told the staff to sort me out. Cut this story short now, service was still rubbish so I told the sales guy that I had been promised the bass at a price £300 below their retail. He just took my money, reluctantly and without checking with his manager. If they had treated me properly in the first instance I would probably have paid their price. This is because I believe that small shop deserve support if they give the service that makes us feel good. Like I said earlier an annoyed customer will tell many and now I have done. I could carry on and tell about all the good experiences I have had but it will make my reply even longer. Like I said happy customers only tell a few. Last thought. If we all start buying exclusively on the internet there won't be any shops left to visit. If you don't use it, lose it. Thanks for listening
18. Hi her's my first custom bass. It has no name. I made it because I liked the shape of the Mouradian CS74 and couldn't find one to buy.

20. Hi how about you check out some Gallien Kreuger kit. Find a second hand RB700 or 1001. Often to be found on Ebay. Item number 120549358650. Plenty of cab options to choose from. 2x10RBH or 4x10RBH. Both horn loaded and use the bi-amp feature of the heads for ultimate control. I am probably a bit biased in my opinion because I have used GK kit for the last five years, starting with an RB400/15 combo (now kept for small practises) and moving to a Fusion 550 hybrid 410 and 210 cabs. Tone range from dub to bright and punchy enough to cut through any mix.
21. Hi all. G.A.S hits us all but I have come up against a brick wall trying to get what I desire. I would really like to get a Mouradian CS74. If anyone out there has one and would consider selling then please get in touch. Colour and finish are not an issue.
22. Hi check out a Gallien Kreuger MB150. A quirky little combo with a 12"driver excellent EQ and built in chorus. Small and light enough to carry in one hand but able to play reasonably loud and an extension cab can be added later if desired.
