1. I agree icastle, I suspect Fenders will always have a higher resale value due to the brand name and popularity too . I was interested because having both basses at hand I could not really see any reason for the extra £350 ? but as you rightly say the far east does produce cheaper goods, which are now every bit as good in terms of quality, my GK amp is made in China, now 10 years ago I would not have considered anything Chinese other than the takeaway food Its like a lot of products though, there is always the innovator/original designer and then the copier/innovator who takes the original design and sets about creating their own version, Leo Fender`s designs are the benchmark IMO . Japanese motorcycles are a prime example of the above and look at them nowadays . I would not bet against me buying another Fender in the future though !
2. Looking after instruments is a labour of love, think how good it feels to have restored a filthy sweat covered bass after a gig to all shiny and clean again, I use Dunlop Carnauba polish which makes your bass look new again, I like cleaning the fret board and seeing the muck on the cloth-sad I know but I love it !!
3. Thanks, I paid £567 for it, exceptional value for money IMO it looks like a bass costing double that !
4. Yesterday I bought a new Ibanez BTB770 bass, I went along to Nevada Music in Portsmouth with the intention of getting a Fender USA Jazz (having always loved Fender guitars and basses) but thought I would try a few other basses as well, I tried the Fender first and liked it but when I got to this Ibanez I was very impressed, a beautiful highly figured top with through neck, fantastic glossy finish, excellent quality construction, fit and finish perfect, 3 band active EQ, powerful Bartolini Mk 2 pick ups, 35" scale, the action was perfect, the EQ is very sensitive and makes this bass seem alive with energy, best of all was the price, a whole £350 less than the Fender, now I dont want to get into a Fender versus Ibanez argument and I know Fender basses are brilliant but how can the Fender be worth £350 more than this Ibanez, is it down to far east labour costs ? Anyway, here is a picture
5. I bought an Ibanez BTB770 yesterday and it was perfect in the shop and last night at home, today it had a buzzing E string at the 1st fret, I put it down to the temperature difference between the shops storeroom and my room at home, a quick loosening of the truss rod and its sorted .
6. GK MB210 IMO, extremely light weight at 33lbs and sounds great, plenty of volume and a choice of matching lightweight extension cabs like my MBE115, cant go wrong
7. That line belongs to Norman Watt Roy, saw him playing in the Wilko Johnson band a few months ago in Southampton, great bass player .
8. Has anyone here bought or tried one of these ESP LTD Viper 414 basses yet, I think they look fantastic and are pretty well specced http://www.gak.co.uk/en/esp-ltd-viper-414/23319
9. My new GK MBE115 8ohm cab arrived yesterday, it makes a huge difference, I wish I had got one before and not wasted all those months waiting for the MBE210 to become available (which it still isnt !), it cost £240 and took 4 days to get here from Thomann in Germany, very good service and excellent communications . I now have a great looking and sounding rig which I can carry from car to stage in two hands without killing my back !!
10. I have got fed up waiting for the MBE210 extension cab so have ordered an MBE115 8 ohm cab from Thomann, it should sound great with the MB210 and give the full 500 Watts . I have also ordered some proper accoustic eggcrate foam to line the MB210 combo to cure the slight boominess, I have read on Talkbass that the lack of lining is the cause of boominess so a £10 bit of foam should cure that issue . I will report back my findings, must say that the MB210 is still one hell of a good amp for the money
11. I have had my GK MB210 a long time now and it still sounds great, no problems and I have just decided to treat it to an MBE115 extension cabinet, the MB210 already has fantastic sound so should be awesome with a 115 as well . I have bought some proper accoustic egg crate type foam to line the cabinet of the MB210 as the lack of lining has been said to cause some boomyness, I will report my findings when I have done this very minor mod, but so far I will give the MB210 10/10
12. I have had my MB210 quite a while now, I think its a great amp, cant go wrong for the money .
13. I love a nice grain pattern, I had a quilted maple guitar once which was stunning, my Gibson SG bass is a faded cherry re-issue and it looks great, when new it was matt but with wear and tear is getting shiny like an old vintage guitar, another reason I like my Gibson is that it cannot get a nasty paint chip !
14. As far as I know they are built in the GK owned factory in China . I rang soundslive today to ask about the MBE210 cabinet, they dont have any dates for it, am getting fed up with GK because the cab has been out for months, shame as the amp on its own is great, just need the cab to release its full 500 watts .
15. Has anyone managed to get a GK MBE 210 extension cabinet yet ?

17. I have had my GK MB210 for about 6 months or so . It is a great amp for the money, the light weight is unbelievable, everybody that hears it cant believe its so light . These amps have great tone but can get very boomy as the volume goes up, I keep the bass EQ right down to prevent this, it has a lot of headroom for such a small amp, I gigged it last week and it sounded very nice in a pubs large function room, easily kept up with drums and guitar . One down point, if you want the matching MBE 210 extension cabinet, forget it, they seem to be as rare as rocking horse doodah, have been ringing around for many months and nobody can give a date ?? The main talking point on other forums is the lack of bracing and lining in the amp, mine is as supplied but I have considered doing these mods if I keep the amp much longer, I am getting fed up waiting for the extension cab, one day I am bound to get a gig where the little MB210 is not powerful enough, my patience is wearing thin so I might consider another amp around xmas, not sure what though ?
18. Hello guys, I have not been on here for a while so thought I would say hello . I have got a GK MB210 and am really pleased with it, I am still waiting for the MBE210 cab to arrive on UK shores, have been told it will be here end October so fingers crossed, is anyone else on here waiting ?
19. I have had my GK MB210 a week and it is a great amp . Very powerful compared to the Marshall MB4210 I had previously which was a massive let down volume wise . My drummer loves it for its power and tone !! And the weight is fantastic, to be able to pick up a 2x10 bass amp with just two fingers is sooooooo good . GK have got a winner with the MB210 . I will get the GK MBE2x10 extension cabinet when they come out in the UK in August, just for bigger venues and the pose value, I dont see it being necessary for most gigs though as this amp has a lot of headroom !
20. I will put a pic on when I get a chance . I was a bit sceptical reading all the great reviews and posts on forums about these amps, you know the old `too good to be true` syndrome, but GK have got a winner here, as soon as I turned it on with the band and cranked it up to half I could tell it was good when the drummer had a huge grin on his face LOL . It really does kick ass !!
21. Well, I have had my Gallien and Krueger MB210 a week now and wow, what an amp, as for power, it absolutely blows away the Marshall MB4210 I had previously, easily keeps up with my band without being anywhere near flat out, lovely tone too, and as for weight, its unbelievable how light it is, I can pick it up with two fingers !! Well worth £500 I love the contour control, really makes the band sound full, the drummer and guitarist love its tone and power ! 10/10 for me
22. This is a good thread, someone mentioned Jello Biafra for lyrics, could not agree more, Jack Bruce was pretty good, Peter Green had a very nice style, there are so many but I would say that it all depends on whether you like the sound and style of the song, I know people who cannot stand Hendrix and dont rate him, Rory Gallagher, Brian Setzer, Eddie Cochran, Robert Trujillo, there are so many very talented players out there, who is to say if there are any genius`s amongst them ? Is genius defined by virtuosity on the instrument or the ability to write a nice simple melody ? Its all down to opinions
23. Sure, I will put some pics up and give a review of it, I have only read excellent reviews of it, very highly rated so cant wait
24. Should get my GK MB210 this week fingers crossed . I asked about the 2x12 but the wait was 3 to 4 months, I like the 2x10 idea with the possibilty of an extension cabinet to boost the sound, the 2x12 does not have this flexibility .
25. I have decided to go for the GK MB210, I like the idea of a lightweight amp, will give my back an easy time, also the mini tower 4x10 appeals for a later date . Am happy with the service from DV27 as they have credited my account and are taking the Marshall back tomorrow, just a short wait now . Cheers Guys
