1. I've been tempted do something similar. I made this video on how I did a relic telecaster, it might give you a few ideas. :)

  2. Hello,

I recently ordered a chrome hipshot bridge from the US and i've realised that I ordered the wrong one. I need one with a fender mount, So rather than pay shipping etc to get it back to the US I thought It might be easier to sell on here.

Its a 4 string brass chrome bridge with 19mm (.750) string spacing and 4 mounting screws. Brand new condition, it's only just been delivered to me.

It cost me £65 not including import tax, so I'm asking what I paid for it excluding import taxes.

    [s]£65[/s] £60 delivered

    Thanks

  3. Its been a while and the neck I got made has arrived....and oh my its such a beauty! Here it is;

And in other news, when I applied the Rustins Plastic coating it seemed to react with the dye a little and made my burst...well not really a burst any more, so I did this....

I'm going to be starting again, but trying a different finish this time. Might keep it natural, or washed black dyed finish. or maybe something like the one attached. Any thoughts?

  4. Hello,

I'm selling my Babicz bridge as I'm after something with a wider string spacing. Its chrome, has been on a bass that i've not played a lot so is in very good condition.

Its a very solid bridge and has great sustain and sound.

EDIT: I've just noticed there is a slight nick in one of the saddles, This does not affect its functionality and you won't really see it once its on the bass. But rest assured, the rest of it is in perfect condition. I'm not sure how it happened. I have reduced the price accordingly.

[s]£60[/s] £50 delivered within the UK.

    or

Trade for a 4 string chrome hipshot bridge with string spacing around 18/19mm

  5. Hello,

I'm looking at getting a EMG BTS System, but I'm a little confused.

Do you have to use active pickups with it?

I want to use some passive pickups that aren't EMG. The website says to use EMG pickups only, I just wondered if there is a reason for this, or is it just marketing, or can you use any passive pickups?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

I'm going to look into possible solutions for this in both the current and next version of the software and hopefully I'll be able to figure out a way of a developer adding in the functionality that we need to be able to keep all parties happy. Or doing it myself if I have too! :)

Someone (the name slips my mind, sorry) has come up with the idea of a "bump" button which is actually rather excellent and could solve more of our issues than you might expect.
That someone was me, its ok I won't hold it against you. :)

I have absolutely no idea how you would even go about adding a bump button, or how difficult that is, but I think it would solve a lot of problems. To be honest, it would also make the topics a lot cleaner not having pages upon pages of bumps.

  7. Lots to think about for the future, but I think i'm holding off on the bandsaw for a bit till I can afford the one I want, so for now I'm going to get a decent Makita or Bosch jigsaw to make my first few builds. Then use my router with bushings and a template bit to finish the shape off. So unless anyone has specific blades I should try, i'll have a go with a bosch T101D.

  8. I did think that might be an issue. That bandsaw has been sold now, but I think if I'm going to be spending that kind of money on one, then i might as well hold off for a bigger one. There always seems to be plenty going up on ebay etc. so will keep an eye out. But if the right jigsaw goes for the right price i'll probably get it to get me started and do what you said with the bushing. :)

Are those the Axcaliber ones? I was tempted by one of those, but wasn't sure how good they would be for that price.

    Thanks.

Just about the best piece of advice a well known luthier (Hi Alan :D) ever gave me was to not scrimp on tools. Always go for the best you can afford. You generally get what you pay for. If you plan on using using the jigsaw a fair bit after then I'd spend £100+ easy... but for occasional use a sub £100 or even second hand will be fine.
Btw a cheap band saw correctly setup can work amazingly well (and quietly in comparison)... the problem for us though is finding one with a deep enough table to accept a guitar body comfortably.
Yea, thats what i've always been told. I'd want to get a good one as i'll probably do at least couple of bodies with it, and its a handy tool to have around the house. I'll keep an eye out for a bandsaw, but will probably get a jigsaw.

Theres one of these being sold on ebay by axminster thats a returned item on for £170 delivered. Seems to get decent reviews, but as you say, the table isn't very big.
