In other news, managed to gets some new ferrules from allparts UK and have fitted those. Just waiting on a jaguar switch so i can switch without opening the control cavity. Im also waiting on some locally sourced wood. (Letts guitars who did the Zebra wood jazz) I'll be cutting this one myself though. Any tips? Oh...i dont have a band saw. Im having an ebony truss rod cover, and a wenge control cavity. Couldn't seem to find a piece of mahogany suitable. It will match the neck, so should look cool.

Warmoth Flame Maple jazz body - Sanded back black dye finish

Been applying Rustins plastic coating the last couple of days, I'm onto coat number 6. After coat 4 i flat sanded the hole thing with 400 grit sandpaper. First time using this, so far so good. Heres my makeshift drying room.... Since making my Warmoth Gecko fretless I think I'd rather have a maple/maple neck on my soon to be finished jazz bass. So I think I'm going to sell this if I can get what I want for it. It's in pretty good condition, a couple nicks here and there, but nothing major. It also has a brass nut. (Pictures coming soon) £120 + Delivery Or Trade for an Allparts/mighty mite Maple/maple jazz neck. (Dots or Block inlays)

This isn't the final finished bass, i still want to tweak a few bits and make wood control plates etc, but thought I'd give you some better photos of it. Enjoy. Thanks for the info guys. I've got as close as I can get it, might try lower the action a little more, but I think it will start to rattle if much lower. I still want to make wood control cover etc, but that might be later down the line. I have also had an idea to have a sliding switch coming through the control cover on the back so I can change the pickup setting without taking the control cover off, So, I'll get some pretty much done pictures up for you....promise.

The bass is complete and it's sounding awesome! Pics to follow. I thought I left the string ferrules in th box under the christmass tree but turns out they're not there. So will have to order some more....I bet I find them as soon as I order them. I'm yet to make the truss rod cover and control plate cover, so that's my next port of call. I'm going to try make the control cover from mahogany to hide it as much as possible. Oh, for what ever reason, the nut came off so I had to re glue it. Not a massive job, just not sure why it came off. One other thing, when intonating it, I had to take the saddles as far back as they would go to get it intonation right. Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal for a 35" scale?

Thanks for all the help, but I thought I'd let you know that no actually went for some D'adarrio chrome flatwounds after I found a sound clip of them and sounded like my kind of sound. I didn't fancy risking some rounds on such a nice board, and these sounded like they had quite a nice clarity to them, and aren't actually as thumpy as I thought they would be. Much better than the roto flats I've tried in the past. Highly recommend them on a fretless.

They look like a good one to try. Quite reasonably priced as well. Have you used them yourself? What are your experiences with them?

Electrics are all done. Keeping this one simple. I'm not even drilling a hole for the switch, but would like a little control if I fancy a change. One day I may add a volume knob and have a hole for the switch, but for now I like the slick simple look. Hello, I know this has been done many times before, but I'm in need of some advice. I'm nearly at the stage of putting strings on my Warmoth Gecko (35" scale) fretless, and I wondered what other people are using? I use ernie ball nickel round wounds on my jazz fretless which sounds great, but it's starting to mark the fretboard. I'm after a similar tone, so a bit of mid growl, but something that's a bit easier on the fretboard, but not really wanting a thumpy tone, if you know what I mean... Are half wounds possibly the way to go? Any ideas on type/brand? Thanks.

Thought I'd update this. It's coming together now, and I got an email saying my tuners have been posted, so will be up and running sooner than I thought. I've attached the bridge and pickup. Just need to wire it up then attach the tuners when they arrive and it's done. So here's a few pics on it semi assembled; There is one slight hitch, I've left the string ferrules in the Warmoth box that is currently under my Christmas tree, so will be looking at the New Year before I get those back. The only thing I want to do now, is to make a control plate cover and a truss rod cover out of wood. I'm thinking a mahogany cover on the body and maybe an ebony cover for the truss rod cover. I still need to source this wood yet.
