A little update. I got an East Mid sweep preamp off here from 'Mcnach' who was extremely helpful, and made sure it would fit before I bought it. Well thats been fitted with a little head scratching and a few emails to John East who drew me up a diagram so I can use it with my Vol/Bal/Tone setup. Top marks for customer service, he was so helpful and extremely helpful! And now its pretty much complete, and the it sound awesome and feels so smooth to play. I'll be taking some better photos, but here are a couple of phone pics. Warmoth Flame Maple jazz body - Sanded back black dye finish
Dolando replied to Dolando's topic in Build Diaries
Thanks, I'm starting to put it together now. Yea thats how it comes out when I do it, but I have seen some people apply like 25 coats then wet sand, then buff to a gloss. I like the satin look, as it still gives it a raw wood kind of look to it. -
That looks great. I agree with blablas about more shine. This is not doing my Warmoth GAS any good...
Haha, Thanks. I'm really pleased with it. To be honest, since this first coat, I've done about 6 coats and its got a bit more of a shine now. Not quite a gloss, but has a bit of a shine and I'm not sure I want a full gloss finish. -
Great build and it looks top. I think you're right to keep the blue, it's a little different, and nothing nicer than a slightly beaten up P bass. I built my first jazz the same way a few years ago, I'm on number 5 now. The current one is the Warmoth flame maple jazz that I'm really happy with.
Looking good! Now it needs more shine.

Beautiful!
Thanks guys. I may buff the tru oil to a shine but I may leave it with the standard satin sheen, so it matches the finish on the neck. -
I look forward to seeing the photos - I think it's going to look tremendous
Thanks. This is after 1 coat of tru oil. Very happy with it! Oh and the new pots and control plate came today. Warmoth Flame Maple jazz body - Sanded back black dye finish
Dolando replied to Dolando's topic in Build Diaries
Thanks for the advice. I did a test where the dye had been on for about an hour, And that didn't lift the dye, and my body has had it's dye ok for at least 24 hours. I have applied the first layer of tru oil and the dye hasn't moved at all! It looks ace! Keep your eyes peeled for photos, didn't get a chance to take any, had to rush out. Oh I've also orders some new pots etc for it, I'm going to try a passive Vol-Bal-Tone-series/parallel switch, then a side mounted jack. -

The Plastic Coating worked and I had good results, I just wasn't happy with the dye finish I did. I'm much happier with the new finish. Yea, I read up a lot on what works with what, but its always best to test anyway. I've been told tru oil over dye usually causes it to run, but I will be testing it first. I may have to resort to spray cans if not. I've done a few spray can finishes with good results, so I'm ok with that. Oh and thanks for the inspiration, thats a lovely looking bass. -

I finally bit the bullet and went for a sanded back black dye finish on my jazz. I will be leaving the back natural and applying true oil over the hold body. What do you think? Small nuts and washers for Glockenklang preamp?
Dolando replied to Dolando's topic in Repairs and Technical
Huh, better than ABM then. I had a missing saddle piece in a bridge and not only did they want money for it (which I was more than prepared to pay) they wanted twice again for postage. When I proposed that they do what your friends at Glockenklang do and tape this tiny piece to a letter, they stubbornly and rather tersely refused. So I bought a single no-name monorail bridge off eBay, took the saddle (which fitted perfectly) and binned the rest. Wasteful, but job done. Was a little miffed at the inflexibility.
Thats outrageous! Lack of customer service is my pet hate, especially when you go into someones shop and they seem to lack very basic customer service or are just simply rude. The main one I don't get is when its clearly a independent business and the stuff they sell isn't that cheap, and you don't even get a simple hello. Sorry, rant over. It just really winds me up. Glad you got it sorted though. -

Although I can't actually fit this yet, as the bass isn't built yet but I thought this would take longer to get sorted. -

Ok, I take it back, they've said they are going to send me some. I just home that they actually do it and I don't have to pester them. -
Hello, Up for sale is a very nice P bass neck I bought off here. I was originally going to use it on a build but have decided to go another route so I no longer need this neck. This neck is in excellent condition. The only real issue is that it has had two different types of tuners fitted before I got it. I would recommend fitting Wilkinson P/J bass tuners though as these are what had been fitted by previous owner and the tuner holes are now a perfect size for them (18.5mm diameter), and the holes are pre-drilled for you to just screw them straight on (the tuner base plates cover up the other holes present). The neck holes may or may not line up so, so just be aware that you may need to plug and/or re drill the holes, but the nut us slotted so other than that its ready to go. The rest of the neck is immaculate and has hardly been played. Nut width: 41mm Heel width at widest point: 63mm Price: £75 Delivered within UK. Small nuts and washers for Glockenklang preamp?
Dolando replied to Dolando's topic in Repairs and Technical
Yea thats not a bad idea! I heard from Glockenklang. I asked them where I can get some from and they basically replied telling me that they have a 6.7mm shaft and thats it, I suppose thats kind of helpful. -

I did mention it to him when I first got it, but didn't reply. I might drop him another message. And yea I have already sent an email to Glockenklang, so hopefully if it's as good as you say they might sell me some. -
Small nuts and washers for Glockenklang preamp?
Dolando replied to Dolando's topic in Repairs and Technical
Well I've had a look at that ebay shop and I could get the standard washers from there, but don't have nuts that are thin enough. I could get the lock washers from a hardware store I think, so I'm not too concerned with finding them. It's just the nuts that seem to be difficult to find. CH Guitars have these, but they say they are for mini and full size pots, not sure what that means. I've contacted them to ask them. http://www.chguitars.co.uk/hardware/screws-springs-nuts/sc17-four-x-nuts-and-washers-for-volume-and-tone-pots.html Oh and I've also contacted Glockenklang directly, but we'll see if I get a reply. I can't believe its this hard to find some. -
Hello, I got a Glockenklang preamp off here a while ago and he sent it to me without any nuts or washers and I cant find any that fit. They're a lot smaller than the standard size and I've also tried metric nuts from Allparts and they are also slightly too big. My callipers say that the diameter is about 6.7mm but I can't seem to find any on the internet. So if anyone knows what type pots these are and where I can get nuts and washers for them it would be greatly appreciated. Ideally located in the UK. Thanks, Adam

I got them to build me a neck and its superb! You'll love it, and I look forward to seeing this come together.
Nice bridge. I have one I fitted to my Squier. I simply drilled new holes. Worked great. I changed it back when I sold the bass and there was no damage to the old holes. if I were you I'd simply use it.
Sorry for the late reply, but thanks for the info, but if already bought the new bridge as I didn't fancy drilling some new holes.
