i know , the king of cheese...

its a 12 string bass , just a 6 string with 2 strings together for each note

i recently saw it on the web and i wondered

how would you tune the 2nd string to each 1st string?
would the ow B have an octave above or below?

more importantly , HOW would u restring the bugger?
what wound would you use?

Um, I think you'll find it's a 4-string with 3 courses of strings, one fundamental and two octave. Like an 8-string but with more top end. At least that's what most 12-strings are.

Must admit to being a bit tempted by an 8-string - I've played a few but I'm not sure I'd really make much use of one. Most octave pedals won't emulate them properly as they generally go an octave (or two) down, not up.

Not tried the 12 but I loved the 8 string Rhapsody I tried a couple of years ago. Playing the intro and verse from Jeremy by Pearl Jam made me grin like a fool! I'd love one of these but can't really justify. Harmonisers and octavers don't get close IMO.

BTW - I'm sure I've seen pictures of John Paul Jones with a 12 string (BEADGC style) with octave strings.

Garry Goodman's experimenting with a 12 string with triple octaves-
root, octave, and an octave above that-

Definitely seen JPJ with a 10 string, and possibly a BEADGC 12.

It's true to say that harmonisers and octavers don't do the concept justice, but has anyone tried the Variax basses.
I did, and whilst I didn't buy one, two of the best "models" in there were the 8 and 12 string basses (both EADG with 1 or 2 octave strings accordingly)
