chriswilliams666
Hey Guys In my tool box i have loads of CTS pots, Caps, Jacks and Wire. As an owner of Precision style basses, i'm unsure whether Fender USA on the following points; 1. Do i need solid or split shaft pots for the normal Fender Jazz knobs? 2. Is the tone pot different in spec to the volume? 3. What do people recommend for the type of cap to use? I will be using some early 90s Fender Jap Jazz Pickups. Many thanks
Master blaster
ive got and orange drop .47uf cap in mine and solid pots. if you look on the fender website you will find parts lists of all of its basses. that should help. nick
On Jazz basses pots are generally solid shaft as the knobs are usually ones with the grub screws. I've got to get a set of CTS ones myself for an old Kimbara jazz copy I just bought. The tone pot can be either log or linear (same value 250k), but if you like to use the tone control (I do); you'll probably find linear pot to be better. You get less of a gradual change in tone with a log - more of a drop off. However, if you dont use it much, I don't think it matters TBH. Caps are usually 0.047uF, but you can experiment. I've got a paper in oil (PIO) cap 0.1uF in one my P-Basses for a real motown thump, whilst in others I've got 0.047 Orange drops & PIO.
