tayste_2000 Posted October 11, 2010 Share Posted October 11, 2010 I'm just glad I got to hang out with Dave Swift, got my new Overwater bass and had a good chat with various Basschatters and bass playing friends from around town. It was quieter this year both, people and volume but at the same time I've found it's a very bad time to be selling equipment both on the forum and ebay so I didn't hold out much luck at Bassday. I again didn't catch any of the seminars as I was bassed out by about 1pm but stayed all the way through and had a good chat with Billy Sheehan as well. Overall a good day not sure I'll go again next year, but as stated it such a good opportunity to hang out with some great people I know and respect. funkyspuke Posted October 11, 2010 Share Posted October 11, 2010 the 'sounds' coming from the GB stand were not to my liking .. it was like listening to guitars rather than basses They just sounded way too aggressive and (as described earlier) 'hissey'. was this totally down to the bass? or did the amps have a part to play? I really enjoyed playing that one [/quote] It's rare that I can pick up a bass and it feel comfortable... that one did feel pretty nice from the word go... and the preamp, as I stated before, seems really powerful and musical. The only thing I didn't like was that the neck looked a little anemic and pale but I could live with that I guess. It was certainly a surpise when I heard it plugged in. I really liked it. When demoing, Bernie always seems to favour these sounds as they are pretty much unique to his electronics and pickups. They can do the standard stuff though and emulate a lot of other bass sounds... but the "GB slap sound" whether you love it or hate it, proves a point - his basses stand out from the crowd, whether it be for the right or wrong reasons. It's the same with the LEDs... love them or loathe them, there was nothing else quite like them there yesterday. The basses aren't hissey, plug them into a desk and you'll see. With the treble up and going through those EBS rigs, that tweeter does give a fair bit of hiss out if you are close enough to hear it. I'm not defending anybody here though... everybody loves different things. Anyway, I thought the Xotic > Red Fodera. Certainly was the surprise of the day for me! Oh yeah, Matamp won best stand furniture yesterday... those uber thin amp frontages were genious! Dangerous though, would have been hard to explain how i left with an early 80's jap squier and came back with £3k's worth of Fodera. Turned out to be a great time to float around the stands - walked up to the PMT stand, had a nice chat to the bloke there, and had a good 15-20mins uninterrupted on a G&L plugged into the Soundblox Multiwave Pro. After Stu Hamm, I was contemplating a go on perhaps a Dingwall, or an Esh, and a play about with the MarkBass chorus pedal. However, by then everything was just too loud! Although I may not have taken a Dingwall home, I could have easily been tempted by another pedal on top of the Multiwave I ended up taking home with me! [/quote] I spent a good 20 minutes on that Wooten, and god it was a hell of a bass. It played itself. Everything just seemed to work & sound better on it. [/quote] Spotted that the Wooton was worth about the same as our Car - WOW! I touched the neck on the NYC and thought to myself - don't you dare pick it up, i had enough to buy it too!
