Unconcerned about being chuckled at by muppets? Buy a GK backline 600, 300w of powery goodness for less than £300. Sounds better than my old ashdown did. And nobody has yet told me to buy a real amp since i got it. This is not a glowing endorsement, but it is light, and it is cheap. Quote

Something like a used Little Mark 250 would be close to that price range and cover most small/mid sized gigs. Quote

No its not a featherweight head, but it is reasonably light. Its a got a big transformer in there, but its a tranny amp with a good clean tube pre and has the power to knock walls over. Oh and get it second hand.... Quote

fdavidso Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Thanks guys - I just hate that orange/yellow on the MB stuff - looks like a Tonka Toy (but not as good). Quote

tauzero Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Ashdown Superfly or Superduperfly. Listen to it before you have it, using whatever speaker you're going to be using on it. Quote
basshead56 Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 My A***g Micro VR sounds amazingly like an S*T and it weighs about as much as an envelope. I feel kind of dirty and ashamed now... did I do something wrong?! Quote
waynepunkdude Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 The problem is the first lightweight amp I had was a Superfly it was sh*t so now I'm sceptical. Quote

Clarky Posted September 3, 2010 Author Posted September 3, 2010 I have the best of both worlds - a heavy Orange valve amp (though at c.50 lb nothing like as heavy as an SVT!) and a TC450 Classic, which does a really good impersonation of a tube amp (and I doubt any audience member would be able to tell the difference). If its a small gig or practice there's no way I'm lugging the Orange along - the TC450 does the trick nicely. Quote

throwoff Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 (edited) Wayne actually plays through three 810's flightcased in custom built checkerd cases. Along side he has a rack with 3 SVT's and several rack effects units all controlled by a specially employed FX roadie. True facts. Edited September 3, 2010 by throwoff Quote
