john_the_bass
following on from the Ashdown thread and inspired by the courier system points thread, who have you had good service from so the rest of us can go there in future? You can put who the bad service comes from too if you want! I have had good service from Ashdown, Laney (actually Headstock, who sent me 10 - yes 10 - amp feet FOC), Marshall, Watford Valves, Allparts, Axesrus and Diago. and rotosound and warwick (i forgot those two!) Your turn. Edited December 19, 2007 by john_the_bass
wateroftyne
Okay... I'll play. Good service... Genz Benz (and Sutherland, their UK importer), Ashdown, Bernie Goodfellow, Acoustic Image, EBS, Andertons, Bob Gollihur... take a bow one and all. BassBod
I'll add one for Chris May and Laurence at Overwater - new handle for EA CXL cab, no cost. Mind you, they're not cheap.....Also Mansons in Exeter have always sorted things out with minimal fuss...but they do make mistakes. thedontcarebear
Sandberg were good to me, a dude called Henrik was who I dealt with via e-mail. And couple of years ago the people in the UK who do distro for Gator (just looked it up - Freestyle Music), their Managing Director helped a lot. silverfoxnik
Good idea for thread.. Mike Tobias of Tobias and now MTD basses fame personally answers his emails, genuinely wants to help and really knows his stuff! And some years back, before things got difficult, Pete (The Fish) Stevens and Ian (Wal) Waller at Wal were just brilliant at looking after their customers! Martin Petersen at The Gallery in Camden is a real gent! I'm sure there's some others who've been great along the way, but these are the first ones that sprung to mind... jammie17
Dino Monoxelos Global Ampeg Product Specialist LOUD Technologies Inc. www.ampeg.com Got to give this guy, (Dino) a well done. He has always returned my emails, helped with a defective circuit board, (which turned out to be a loose tolex) and is just an all around good guy. EskimoBassist
I'm not sure if you'll believe this but i'll say it anyway, SOUNDCONTROL! Now actually the branch at Stockton is FANTASTIC! Joe the Bass guy is top notch and helped me with my bass related problems. He was friendly and helpful and i really couldn't have asked for anything more! I bought a brand new Fender USA Jazz a few months ago and unfortunately nearly a move to the day the bridge pickup and the S-1 system gave up. Ofcourse we took this straight to them and they sent it off ASAP. I thoguht nothing of it but after a month or so i started to get itchy and i was glad i hadn't sold my last bass, as without it i would have been quite screwed, considering the gigs my band had booked to play. Originally Fender said i would have my bass back in perhaps two weeks max, but it was 2 MONTHS when i finally managed to get it back. For my inconvinience they gave me a rather nice set of Rotosound strings and bid me farewell! However, i noticed that my bass had incurred a few knocks and scratches whilst in the hands of the men at Fender. Ofcourse i mentioned this straight away to Joe and he was quickly on the phone to complain on my behalf. Needless to say he worked on them all day and actualyl secured me a REPLACEMENT BRAND NEW FENDER USA BASS IN THE SAME COLOUR WITH A PRO SETUP for FREE OF CHARGE!! Now what a guy?!!?! I must say i didn't expect to receive such great aftersales service, but really the customer does matter to this chain store which has undoubtedly incurred a bad name because of it's size. Whether or not the other stores live up to such a reputation remains to be seen (ahem *NEWCASTLE!*) but i know from now on i'll travel to Stockton when i get some GAS. 99ster
Westside Distribution - they import Mesa/Boogie - excellent service for spares, etc... A v.big thumbs up! Whereas SWR - or rather Fender UK who own SWR were utter rubbish. Could only get any help with schematics (for an SM400) from a guy in the US. But that's the usual story with the UK versus US for customer service... And Wal (Pete The Fish) have always been tremendous for me... woodster
+1 for the guys at Overwater. Broke a machine head on my J5 and Chris sent one the next day FOC. Also the strings I ordered were on the doormat virtually before I'd put the phone down. GAK in Brighton - Ordered a Markbass 104HF cab but the 4 Ohm was a special order. Mark at Gak got no help from the distributor and so hounded the factory and got one into the country in 3 days!!! John Boots Music in Hythe nr Southampton. Paul does the BEST set-ups I've ever had!! Both top guys - Dino is great - dead helpful. You can see him on youtube demoing ampeg stuff. Last time I emailed him I got response in about 2 minutes flat! Dave Ryan correctly identified fault with my ampeg by me vaguely describing symptoms over email. He answered my emails over weekend, and then remembered unprompted to send me a parts list and a circuit check chart for my ampeg. Which was second hand any way out of warranty. Top men. Thunderthumbs
+1 to Bernie Goodfellow. Bernie did me a cracking deal on my EBS gear and set up my jazz for free while I was there. Got in a whole range of cabs for me to try, and I was there hours instead of the obligatory 10 minutes battling against everyone else in your bog standard high street music retailers. Had a really good chat and got a nice brew or two thrown in for the day. All in all a top bloke.

He fixed a problem on a bass for me on Saturday and hardly charged for it at all when you think what his expertise is worth per hour! And he sold me two excellent and well priced sets of strings plus gave me a nice deal on a new EBS strap! All in, excellent!! The best bit though was when he turned the lights off and played one of his basses with the all-singing, all-dancing LEDs in it, just to give my 4 year old son an absolutely fantastic light show (working in sync with Bernie's own very fine playing Brilliant! (trouble is my son wants me to get LEDs in all my basses now...)
d-basser
just had a good one with EBS: sent a quick email asking how i could get a replacement bulb for my Fafner, within 5 minutes i got a reply saying that if i gave them my address they would post me one or two for free
chris_b
Pete Stevens (Wal) was very helpful. I wish I'd found him and his basses 20 years earlier. Dan Lakin replied to my emails as well. Seems like a nice chap. Nick Owen at The Bass Centre saved my life many times when my Boogie amp was playing up. God bless, where ever you are these days. Alex at the Bass Gallery never seems to tire of my awful widdling. Definitely counts as patience beyond the call of duty! When I can afford it, I always get good service from Charlie Chandler!
