hi y,all im looking for a program for editing midi files , and doing some recording too, need to be something with great onboard sounds that i can use to edit the midi files for gigging purposes. Iv looked at cubase and a few others but was wondering if theres anything out there that is cheaper and would do the job. im not very good with pc , so the simpler the better. any suggestions ?
cheers, jimmy.

Ableton is a very popular choice for live performance, see http://www.ableton.com/downloads
you can trigger midi or audio loops easily that are quantized in time. It is also great for recording and has decent onboard sounds. It only comes with basic plugins, but you can get hold of others pretty easily. Download it and try it for 30 days, work through the tutorials and see what you think
